I was originally drawn to the stunning cover of Vampire Shift , it really caught my eye. Kiera just stares right through you.
I loved Tim’s odd group of coppers stuck out at The Ragged Cove trying to solve the mysteries of the ever increasing grizzly murders. Murphy the slipper wearing , pipe smoking Sergeant, despite the sign stating , “It’s against the law to smoke on these premises”. Potter the, crime scene contaminating , resident wise crack and forensic specialis...more

So at about 1am, I was really sleepy but my head is buzzing with the murder-mystery ravaging the Ragged Cove much like the classic Sherlock Holmes movie. Fast forward to 1:30am and my eyes are really ggetting sleepy and just when I though I could finally put a bookmark on the page and drift to sleep, O'Rourke would pull another number on me and would jolt me to wakefulness more effective than coffee.

What a wonderful start to a new series as I tend to get bored with the whole vampire thing after awhile as it has been done to death. Kiera is a green police woman with little experience and her new posting is nothing that the academy could have prepared her for. She is attracted to police officer Luke and is determined to fit in but she is drawn into a world that she never knew existed. Something terrible is happening in the Ragged Cove and Kiera will stop at nothing to solve the murders. In a...more
I actually just re-read this book. The first time I read this was when the third one had just came out, I think? I really enjoyed the idea of the book and I quite liked the characters.
But, during this re-read, I had a bit of a difficult time. For some reason, I've found myself much more critical towards books lately, and this one fell victim to my in head critiques. The main problem for me was the info dumping and the plot rushing.

So, today I finished reading this book, it took a few days since I only read during commute to my different jobs, but I swear more than once I almost missed my bus-stop because I was so buried in the book. The characters were so easy-to-get-to-know... the paranormal stuff in it was simply credible and the writing was easy on the mind. I must say I honestly enjoyed this book and will read the second one in the series very soon, I just need to complete some buddy reads with my group before I get t...more
There are times when writing a review is harder than usual. You realize the author is a real person, not a name on a cover and what you're going to say may hurt her/him.
Vampire Shift is an indie and I'm ready to give some slack to self published books. The authors often do not have access to editing and proofreading (and is unfortunately evident).
Kiera is Holmes (sometimes almost literally) in a skirt dealing with vampires and vampire bats (hey, it's different!:) rather than hounds. World build...more

OK, honestly. I’m so incredibly tired of the vampire theme in YA books today, I want to gag when I read the word vampire in a blurb or book title. But one – this is not a YA book. Two – I didn’t read the blurb. And three – these are not your everyday fall-in-love, sparkling, will-save-you-in-a-heartbeat vampires. No, no, no. These are monsters. Just the way I like ‘em! Ladies and gentlemen, allow me to introduce you to another marvelous horror writer. Yep, Tim O’ Rourke’s Vampire Shift scared th...more

So I've finally given this series a chance. I've been seeing this book's cover on my friends' shelves very often lately, but paid it no attention 'cause I thought the cover's a little too over-the-top (and cheesy). BUT, my curiosity got the best of me so I gave it a try and was reminded: Never judge a book by its cover.

Deserves more than FIVE stars!!! As I have been patiently waiting for this release I will be honest, this review is bittersweet for me. One the up side I absolutely LOVED this book, one the down side I finished it in just a few hours and now it's over. ;) It's not that it is a short book or a novella, it was that it caught me at the first few lines and I could hardly put it down from there! I stayed up till 11:30 pm because I just HAD to know how it ended. Vampire Shift was thought to be release...more

What a ride!!
The hobbit has done it! (for those of you who don't know, I call Tim - THe Hobbit ---- He loves it! at least that's what I like to believe lolz) What a wild magic spooktacular ride he sent me on. Not down a rabbit hole but into the bowels of uhh... England or the Shire or some other hobbity place.
I could say the UK but what's the difference between that, Britain, and England? Yeah.... Ummmm.... so to the SHIRE we go!!

I love vampire books and when I saw the cover of Vampire Shift (Book One) The Kiera Hudson Trilogy I was instantly attracted to this book and I was not disapointed by the story. It was a different and refreshing take on vampires whcih gripped me from the beginning through to the end. There is almost a traditional feel to this vampire story, with holy water, crucifixes and stakes but it also has a unigue spin on it. There is plenty of mystery and the book kept me guessing until the end. When I th...more
Keira Hudson is a twenty year old constable sent to the teeny town of The Ragged Cove, working for the police force. Once there, she discovers things aren't at all what they seem and that in the little god forsaken town of (probably) 50 people, there are more than double vampires and Vampyrus.
Keira has the unusual ability of "seeing" things. Imagine a female version of Sherlock Holmes ( the one from the UK show Sherlock) minues the snark and know it all attitude.

quite liked it but it didn't really spark all that much in me, and i think mainly when i read the reviews i was soo excited and thoughts to myself " This book is going to be awesome!" but i was let down a little. it just didn't drag me in and the 'relationship' between Kiera and Luke just seemed so forced, like oh we should just shove them together because they are the only ones available to each other and they fall in love. it was just so mechanical, there was nothing there that i could sense,...more
Let me start by saying that when I first read the synopsis for Vampire Shift I was a little leery. I mean it's talking about police work, crime scenes, murder investigations, the main chic is a cop...To say that my Urban Fantasy radar was going off is a bit of an understatement.
More like there was a four alarm siren in my head, bleeding my brain through my ears, screaming Don't do this to yourself!! You don't like Urban Fantasy/CSI type books!
But....I gave it a go anyways...and it was AWESOME!!...more

Lately, I’ve hit a bit of a slump in finding books that appealed to me. I’ve been staring books that I end up stopping because they don’t grab me, I don’t feel I can relate, it’s poorly written or all of the above. I recently read an article about Tim O’Rourke and how his books are said to rival Stephanie Meyer’s work. Needless to say, I was pretty intrigued and decided to check out Vampire Shift, the first in the Kiera Hudson series by Tim O’Rourke. The cover alone drew me in and after I began...more
Color me intrigued. I was pleasantly surprised to find that this wasn't exactly your everyday, trite vampire love story. Sure, our main protagonist Kiera Hudson does fall in love with her supernatural hero, but that's not all there is. This book has more going for it.
First and foremost, O'Rourke presents an intriguing take on the vampire genre. Stories of debonair night-walkers à la Anne Rice seem to be a dime-a-dozen these days (a dime I'm most certainly willing to shill out, mind you), which m...more

Started reading Vampire Shift and literally couldn't put it down until I finished it. What a fun book. Not only do you get your fill of vampires but it's a great mystery novel too, lots of twists and turns that keep you guessing until the end. I love how O'Rourke combines some traditional vampire mythology with a unique and modern twist. Really looking forward to the next book in this series.
O’Rourke has done it again, creating an intriguing masterpiece, completely original and captivating. This vampire novel is not like anything I’ve ever read before, and O’Rourke’s combination of police knowledge and vampire lore makes for a riveting new series starring Kiera Hudson, a young aspiring policewoman. Complete with suspense, mystery, and intrigue, Vampire Shift takes the reader on a journey into the depths of The Ragged Cove, a place where many have ventured, but few have returned.

I found this book when I was searching out some other authors who write vampires novels. The cover instantly caught my eye and reading the blurb about it made me drop it into my "to read" list. I found that the cover stayed with me and when I went to figure out which book to read next, the front cover of this book reached out to me and pulled me in.

I was disappointed with this book, considering it has such good reviews. True, it's a different kind of vampire book, but I just wasn't drawn in by it. I didn't take to the way it was written and I didn't feel much for the characters either - they just felt flat to me.
It was genuinely creepy in parts, and I didn't see (most) of the plot twists coming, but I finished it annoyed that I'd paid to read it. I was disappointed by the romance in it too - I'm really not a fan of the whole woman meets ma...more

Vampire shift is the first book in the Kiera Hudson series by Tim O’Rourke. I was pleasantly surprised with the book and cannot wait to start Vampire Wake (#2 in the series). The book follows Kiera Hudson, a new police graduate, as she starts her first assignment at a post. She is sent to the secluded town The Ragged Cove. She accepts the assignment originally because she was drawn by the thrill of real action because of a serial killer that has plagued the area. She quickly realizes what a dang...more
Great book with many twists and turns. Kept me captivated and wanting to keep reading. The charactors are so well written they grab you and pull you in. The description of scenery is second to none and it makes you feel like you are in the book with them, seeing and going through what they are. You think you have the book worked out and think "How clever am I working out this story-line" WRONG! I had so much wrong but was so nice and surprising when I realised I was wrong. Too many books out the...more
The protagonist has the amazing Holmes-like ability to make instant deductions based on minute details. Unfortunately in other respects she's kind of an idiot. In Chapter 3 she learns that a group of flying blood-drinking people are committing murders at night, and that the village policemen are doing a stunningly terrible job of investigation and are only seen at night. She utterly fails to draw any useful conclusions from this.

I was not sure what to expect when I bought this book and at first some of the formatting flaws in the book had me scared that I was reading a dud. However, once I got past the imperfections of formatting and some spelling/grammar issues I discovered a story which was much better than the presentation. I will be honest and say that the story deserved five stars and I almost gave four because of the formatting errors.

After searching for a book to read for a while on Amazon.com, I came across this book. It sounded like a good premise, then I started reading the book. At first I was a little skeptical about the whole vampire bat thing, but then I realized it really hasn't been overdone like most everything else in books these days. I really enjoyed the book, and I like the fact that Kiera isn't portrayed as a "whip butt and take names" kind of girl, she gets her behind kicked quite a few times. There were a fe...more
