The first half of this book was great. Full of suspense, mystery and a heavy dose of horror, I was literally engrossed. But oddly, the second half lost all momentum. This is pnr and about vampires, which I love but the actual premise of the book? Not so much. These creatures are different, I won't say how but I wasn't impressed. Even the romance was strange. It was insta-love to the extreme, with the heroine questioning if she loved the hero within days of meeting him--there was minimal

OK, honestly. I’m so incredibly tired of the vampire theme in YA books today, I want to gag when I read the word vampire in a blurb or book title. But one – this is not a YA book. Two – I didn’t read the blurb. And three – these are not your everyday fall-in-love, sparkling, will-save-you-in-a-heartbeat vampires. No, no, no. These are monsters. Just the way I like ‘em! Ladies and gentlemen, allow me to introduce you to another marvelous horror writer. Yep, Tim O’ Rourke’s Vampire Shift scared ...more

I was originally drawn to the stunning cover of Vampire Shift , it really caught my eye. Kiera just stares right through you.

I loved Tim’s odd group of coppers stuck out at The Ragged Cove trying to solve the mysteries of the ever increasing grizzly murders. Murphy the slipper wearing , pipe smoking Sergeant, despite the sign stating , “It’s against the law to smoke on these premises”. Let me start by saying that when I first read the synopsis for Vampire Shift I was a little leery. I mean it's talking about police work, crime scenes, murder investigations, the main chic is a cop...To say that my Urban Fantasy radar was going off is a bit of an understatement.

More like there was a four alarm siren in my head, bleeding my brain through my ears, screaming Don't do this to yourself!! You don't like Urban Fantasy/CSI type books!

But....I gave it a go anyways...and it was AWESOME!!

Vampire Shift is the first novel in the Kiera Hudson Series. Kiera is a 20 year old constable who recently graduated from the Police Academy. Unwilling to seem like she was hard to deal with and inflexible when it comes to duty stations, Kiera agrees to take a job in the remote village of The Ragged Edge. Kiera has a gift of noticing things that others can’t see which is basically saying that she’s got a sixth sense in discovering things that may be impor

This book was appalling. I felt my brain melting as I attempted to read it. I made it to 52% before it hit the DNF pile so my review is based only on what i read.

My major issues with the story;
* Police officers get stationed in Ragged Cove then go missing- never to be seen again but the police force as a whole (scotland yard/whatever) do not investigate, instead send out more officers to work there.

* Luke & the other officers claim not to want any other people/police officers to get hurt b

What a ride!!

The hobbit has done it! (for those of you who don't know, I call Tim - THe Hobbit ---- He loves it! at least that's what I like to believe lolz) What a wild magic spooktacular ride he sent me on. Not down a rabbit hole but into the bowels of uhh... England or the Shire or some other hobbity place.

I could say the UK but what's the difference between that, Britain, and England? Yeah.... Ummmm.... so to the SHIRE we go!!

So I've finally given this series a chance. I've been seeing this book's cover on my friends' shelves very often lately, but paid it no attention 'cause I thought the cover's a little too over-the-top (and cheesy). BUT, my curiosity got the best of me so I gave it a try and was reminded: Never judge a book by its cover.

Vampire Shift is about a 20-year-old police constable Kiera Hudson, the MC, who is recentl

This book started off great! I was intrigued and really enjoying the feel and suspense of the book. All of a sudden, near the end, maybe 85% in, it went waaaaay down hill.
The love story (if you can call it that) fell completely flat. I felt nothing, absolutely nothing between the 2 characters. Then, he dropped the "L" word....really??? You've known this chick all of like 1 week!? Ridiculous. Once that happened, I was done!
Not only that, but there are so many questions left and I don't mind bein

Well!!!!

I've wanted to read this series for quite some time now, it was the book covers that appealed to me - big time! I've not long invested in the books and as you can see, I've just read the first one...

Wow... what can I say, totally unexpected and I thoroughly enjoyed it! Kiera Hudson is something else... mind you, so is Luke (grins)

I love the quick and easy way this book is written, I love the way the words just dance into my brain and stay there... no having to read a line twice, just pla

I am in a bit of a quandary about my review for this book. I really enjoyed the start, it was like an old British horror version of the film Hot Fuzz, and then it started to get a bit silly for me. You see Kiera who is just out of police school turns up to The Ragged Cove for her first position as a police constable investigating a serial killer. All is well it is interesting, scary and mysterious but then Kiera finds out that vampires exist and without question she just believes and accepts it, ...more

What a wonderful start to a new series as I tend to get bored with the whole vampire thing after awhile as it has been done to death. Kiera is a green police woman with little experience and her new posting is nothing that the academy could have prepared her for. She is attracted to police officer Luke and is determined to fit in but she is drawn into a world that she never knew existed. Something terrible is happening in the Ragged Cove and Kiera will stop at nothing to solve the murders. In a ...more

So at about 1am, I was really sleepy but my head is buzzing with the murder-mystery ravaging the Ragged Cove much like the classic Sherlock Holmes movie. Fast forward to 1:30am and my eyes are really ggetting sleepy and just when I though I could finally put a bookmark on the page and drift to sleep, O'Rourke would pull another number on me and would jolt me to wakefulness more effective than coffee.

At first, I was really enjoying this book. It reminded me of Hush Hush and Supernatural. (Two amazing things) I mean, it was weird, but weird is good. Sadly, it got a little TOO weird, and I found myself cringing at just about everything. It went from good to bad pretty quickly! Plus, the writing style got annoying after a while.
But hey, if you're wanting to read it, it's free on kindle and it never hurts to give a book a try!!

Terrible. Finally gave up at 51% when the incredibly underdeveloped hero was revealed to be a giant. Vampire. Bat.

Deserves more than FIVE stars!!! As I have been patiently waiting for this release I will be honest, this review is bittersweet for me. One the up side I absolutely LOVED this book, one the down side I finished it in just a few hours and now it's over. ;) It's not that it is a short book or a novella, it was that it caught me at the first few lines and I could hardly put it down from there! Okay...so O'Rourke nailed me between the eyes with his "Black Hill Farm" novel and a book blogger I follow raved about Shift so I thought I'd take a chance on yet another vamp book! Wow. And that doesn't even cover it! O'Rourke is British and his writing style/diction/syntax is really different and so refreshing for an American who is pretty steeped in my own country's works. He doesn't explain any of the vernaculars that are so common place in the UK and as a reader I was definitely along for ...more

So, today I finished reading this book, it took a few days since I only read during commute to my different jobs, but I swear more than once I almost missed my bus-stop because I was so buried in the book. The characters were so easy-to-get-to-know... the paranormal stuff in it was simply credible and the writing was easy on the mind. I must say I honestly enjoyed this book and will read the second one in the series very soon, I just need to complete some buddy reads with my group before I get ...more

There are times when writing a review is harder than usual. You realize the author is a real person, not a name on a cover and what you're going to say may hurt her/him.

Vampire Shift is an indie and I'm ready to give some slack to self published books. The authors often do not have access to editing and proofreading (and is unfortunately evident).

Kiera is Holmes (sometimes almost literally) in a skirt dealing with vampires and vampire bats (hey, it's different!:) rather than hounds. World build

Here's what I enjoyed about this book...we went back to basics. Vampires that are like bats, vampires that are scared of crucifixes and holy water destroys them! BUT not only that he threw in some modern twists to these age old vampire stories we just Love to read! What are they? Well pick up the book and find out! There's a mystery in here with twist and turns and just when you have it all figured out the author surprises you. And just when you think you'll get the ending you hope for a ...more

Sometimes I think Kiera was to nice to Luke I mean I think I would demand where Luke went when she was being attacked. The rest of the story was pretty good other than that she didn't whoop his butt for what happened. I am curious to know more it kind of lift on a mini cliff hanger I want to know what happened to her mom like she does.

So, I had to give it 4 stars because I read the entire book in one sitting (the book isn't that long but still). I liked all of the characters and I was definitely trying to figure out the mystery behind The Ragged Cove. It definitely was NOT predictable and had lots of twists and turns. I think it's a great start to the series and I am looking forward to getting to know everyone better, especially Kiera. I think there is definitely more behind what she "sees" that everyone else misses and I ...more

I really enjoyed this book by a new to me author. It started out a little bit choppy but it smoothed out and the story flowed pretty well. I liked the different take on the world of vampires.

I enjoyed the hint of Great Britain in the author's writing style. This story has a romance thread but its not a major part of the story. It would be suitable for teens who like vampire stories. I'll definitely read the rest of the series.

Amazon kept recommending Vampire Shift to me, but I ignored it for ages because it was listed under YA, and being a fast reader, I didn't feel that it would be worth spending money on. When I finally caved in and bought it [all of the customer reviews were 5 stars, so that swung it] and found that I did really enjoy it...

Vampire Shift is told from Keira's POV, so it's fortunate that she makes for a very likeable heroine. She isn't a coward, but she doesn't wander around putting herself in a endl
