Intense, extreme but a very powerful book. I'd have to reread to really understand and absorb everything, but my general impression from the first read-through was that I didn't completely agree with everything. It wasn't that I disagreed vehemently, it was more the fact that some of her ideas were the extreme truth of what I believe.
Very interesting after being used to the rather passive, soft feminism that I usually read (and I understand her criticisms of such femnism) but dare I say, so...more

This is so absurd, it must be fiction. I'm all for feminism and protecting women, and opening our eyes to the misogyny/anti-feminism that peppers society - but somehow I seriously doubt that the entire world is simply a tool with which to abuse, rape, and torture women. I think it was Greer's claim that women are literally being forced to have C-sections in order to maintain their figure and take away the birth experience that finally made me go, "Okay, WTF?!"

Brilliant because she gives a broad and engaging perspective on what it is to be a 21st century woman and how women should demand more and not settle for less. Inspiring and a real boost of nourishing feminism for men and women. I'm going to buy it!

quote
"The most cursory examination of even the most progressive organs of information reveals a curious inability to recognizer women as newsmakers, unless they are young or married to a head of state or naked or pregnant by some triumph of technology or perpetrators or victims of some hideous crime or any combiniation of the above. Women's issues are often disguised as people issues, unless they are relegated to the women's pages which amazingly still suvive. Senior figures are all male; even the few women who are deemed worthy of obituaries are shown in images from their youth, as if the last fourty years of their lives have been without achievement of any kind. If you analyse the by-lines in your morning paper, you will see that the senior editorial staff are all older men, supported by a rabble of junior females, the infinitely replacesable 'hackettes'."
