All Sunshine has known her whole life as been the church or cult as the outsiders call it. Growing up Sunshine lived in a cult known as The Family of the Superior being , with practices of drinking the Rainbow Juice to leave this world with and be one with the higher power. One night , Sunshine is woken up by her mother and told to gather her three children Peace, Happy and Bliss and run to an address. The address turns out to be Sunshine's real dad's home - Chris. It turns out that the very nex...more
This is the first book that I have read of Megan hart's. I would probably have given it a 4 1/2 but since there are no halves I bumped it up to five.
This book had me from the very beginning when Sunny is awoken by her mother who sends her and her three children away before they "drink the rainbow" which sends them away to everlasting peace through the gates but as we know it, a mass suicide at a time decided by the leader.
Sunny is given the address of a father she never knew existed and he als...more

My emotions were all over the place with this story. I think because I know it happens all the time, or at least most of the story.
Sunny is a teenage mother of three in a cult that she has been raised in. Her mother wakes her and her children and tells hers she has to take the kids now . Her mom has packed two backpacks, gave her some money and tells her her real dad just lives a little away. To take around the back fence their is...more

Liesel is a happily married woman. She and Christopher have a good relationship and a good life, but Liesel is beginning to want more. She wants children. Sunny has only known the compound. She isn't happy, but she isn't exactly unhappy. The last thing she expects is to leave the only family she's ever known and start anew. Liesel and Sunny both struggle with new obstacles and strive to remain steadfast in All Fall Down by Megan Hart.

Thought provoking book on cults and those who leave to join them as well as those who leave and try to adjust outside. Sunny and her three children are sent away by her mother and told to go to her real father, who she never knew existed. Not understanding, but used to obeying she does just that. The next day she finds out that everyone else from the cult have committed suicide, or rather left their earthly vessels. Trying to explain, what to me is unexplainable, Hart does a very good job showin...more
Megan Hart grabs the readers attention from the start. The novel opens with a mother telling her 19 year-old daughter to escape from the Sanctuary, the home of a religious cult, and take her three small children with her and go to her biological father's house. A man Sunny does not know and, in fact, her father does not know about her. Thus begins the journey of Sunny and her three children into the world of the "blemished." At first, it is hard for the reader to understand how someone could bec...more
I was very torn about how many stars to give this one. Four seems too little but it doesn't quite reach five for me. All Fall Down is a stunning story about cults, religion, family and choice. I was drawn into this lovely book from the first page and could hardly force myself to look away.

This was a hard book to read as it brought up so many issues that are uncomfortable and yet I couldn't put the book down. For me, things were made worse by the fact that I could see the things that upset all the people involved.
The story is about Sunny, who is raised in one of those crazy religious cults that twist things. When we meet Sunny she is 19 years old and has 3 children under the age of 4. Let that sink in for a minute or so and you realize just what has been happening. At this time Su...more

4-1/2 stars. This was another amazing book by Ms. Hart. It was dark, slightly disturbing but perfect for the subject matter.
A young girl is awoken in the night by her mother. The mother sends her daughter and the daughter's three children off to find the daughter's biological father. We learn that the mother had run away from her life to join a cult while pregnant. The daughter has only known this bizarre life and has raised her three children in the secluded community.

A 19 year old girl (Sunny) with 3 children who grew up in a cult is awakened in the night by her mother and told to leave and find her father whom she has never met. Hours later, her mother and all the cult members are dead of apparent mass suicide. Her father, never knowing he had a daughter, struggles to accept her and the children into his home. His wife, eager to "mother" young children, encourages them to stay and then struggles with the reality of mothering. Sunny, meanwhile, has to come t...more

Most of you know how much I love Megan Hart's stories. Most of the titles of Hart's that I previously chose, were in the romance genre. But imagine my surprise when I saw this adult fiction title. Excitement didn't even begin to describe how I felt.

I enjoyed this book over all. It is a unique glimpse into the authors opinion of a cult. I found it interesting to watch how the story unfolded for Sunshine. The fear that gripped her in her "sanctuary life" and her live with the "blemished" Some of the things listed in the book reminded me of what I know about Jones Town and Heavens gate which were both referenced, but also portions made me think of polygamist groups and David Koresh, and Waco. It is a sad moving story. I found the relationship...more
I was hooked on this book from the first chapter. Hart grabs your attention by sending the mysterious Sunshine and her three children out into the cold, escaping what seems like some sort of religious prison. Sunny is the 19-year-old member of a cult who already has three young children. Her mother, who joined the cult when she was pregnant with Sunny, instructs her to leave the cult and go to her real father for help.

This was a page turner for sure, a story of a young girl Sunshine who only just escapes a Waco-type mass suicide with her three young children in search of her biological father. Although fiction, I found it quite confronting to imagine just how brainwashed she was as the cult had been all she knew.

This is the first Megan Hart book I've read, although reluctantly, I super enjoyed it. The issues are so real and heart searing it's painful. The misunderstanding of interpreting our own thoughts, feelings, beliefs and religious grounds are what mixes the stir-fry emotions that we fail to understand in the character's upbringing and own-belief system, Sunny, Sunny, Sunshine.

I think I would give 4 stars for the story concept itself, but 3 for how much I liked the writing. The story is interesting, of course- you can't not find a mega cult/mass suicide survivor story interesting. Without giving too much away, I found the ending rather abrupt and it didn't seem to flow naturally from where the story had been going. There were parts where it seemed that the author was adding detail to give the characters more credibility but it sometimes seemed to fall flat because the...more
I was very intrigued by the subject of this book, because there are a lot of emotional things going on at once. You have Liesel's quest to have a baby, the appearance of a child form her husband's first marriage, becoming grandparents, and recovering from years of mental and physical abuse. That sounds like it would make for a very depressing novel, but All Fall Down isn't that at all. Liesel is forced to confront her feelings about her possible infertility while trying to engage her husband who...more
This book was okay. There were a few things that I found that still left me with questions like where was the husband at during his times of absence. I mean Liesel was this wife who had a good marriage but whenever she called her husband he never answers the phone and there is not an explanation for where he was at all in this book. Then Liesel the wife was taking on way too much to be realistic to me. But at the same time I understood where she the author was taking me. I just didn't get the en...more
Again, I am still hopeful that Goodreads.com will update its rating to include 1/2 star values. I would have given this book 3.5 stars if that option were available, but, since it isn't I bumped it to four stars as only three stars didn't seem sufficient for my review. I enjoyed this book and the 400 pages went be too quickly.

I absolutely adore the cover of this book. It's so simplistic yet ominous. It's the perfect cover to signal that something not quite right is going to happen in the novel. The storm clouds are gorgeous. Gah, I just love the cover. Kudos to the designer. So I remember reading the synopsis when I requested this novel but until I started reading it, I completely forgot what it was about.

Liesel really wants children of her own. What she doesn't want is a nineteen year old girl to turn up on her doorstep with three children and be expected to take all four of them in and start a 'family'. But that is exactly what she has to do as they are her husband's daughter and three grandchildren. Sunny and her three children, Happy, Peace and Bliss have escaped from their cult...the night before the entire cult commits mass suicide.

Thought provoking life story. All Fall Down is not your typical Megan Hart book. At least not so much what I'm used to reading from her, although I know she started out writing this type of fiction. However, it's one of those books that you want to stop reading but you can't put it down.

Exploring the issues of identity, family and faith, All Fall Down is a thought provoking and intriguing novel.
Nineteen year old Sunshine has grown up in The Family of Superior Bliss, whose teachings of environmental sustainability and physical well being have been twisted by the charismatic cult leader to include harsh punishments, sexual abuse and psychological torture. Interesting story about a young girl and her three children suddenly leaving a cult group and adjusting to the "outside" world. kids do OK, the young girl struggles because she has grown up knowing only the cult world. This new world is so strange. She has ended up at her father's home - neither of them ever knew each other before. The added twist is his current wife wants children very much but hasn't had any. Suddenly there is a 19 yr old and her three children on her doorstep to take care of.
I enjoyed the story line of this book. The author does a good job of portraying some depth in the main character, a young woman who has been reased in a secluded religious cult but who must suddenly make her way in the real world. However, the other characters in the story are not well developed. There is too much dependence on story line and not enough on character development for my taste. Then the ending was very abrupt, as if the author suddenly ran out of pages and just needed to end the st...more
I enjoyed this book for a variety of reasons -- it's an easy read, an interesting topic (a religious cult), the dynamics among the characters are intriguing, and I laughed out loud at some of the realizations of being a mother. I felt this book had some great moments I could relate to -- the motherhood thing and the importance of the relationship with your spouse among the chaos of every day living. I thought the book ended abruptly, but all in all I liked this book and I breezed through it in a...more
This one gripped me from the beginning--I even had a hard time putting it down to sleep and go to work. Sunshine's situation reminded me of the book, "Room", in which the mom and child had a hard time adjusting to the world at large. I sympathized with Liesel's reactions to the realities of child-rearing versus her romanticized version of it. The only major gripe I had was the way Liesel's situation changed right at the end of the book--a little too pat for me. This seems like it would be a grea...more
Megan Hart has become one of my favorite authors because she can really tell a story and this book is no exception. The only thing is that I wished that the ending had been flushed out a bit as I didn't want to stop reading about Sunshine and find out if she really did figure out her new life. I especially liked the Dr. Who reference in the middle of the book, but you needed to know what weeping angels are in order to get the reference.
A girl runs away from the cult-like commune in which she was raised, taking her 3 children with her. They struggle to adjust to the outside world while living with her dad and stepmom.
With subject matter like that, this should have been a pretty good book - but it wasn't great. The characters were not developed, leaving a lot of questions and little believability. The story didn't flow well to me and some parts seemed thrown in just for shock value.

Megan Hart has written in almost every genre of romantic fiction, including historical, contemporary, romantic suspense, romantic comedy, futuristic, fantasy and perhaps most notably, erotic. She also writes non-erotic fantasy and science fiction, as well as continuing to occasionally dabble in horror.
