In 1917, the British fighter ace Albert Ball met Flora Kavanagh Young and the two of them were engaged to be married; a wedding that never took place due to Albert's death at the front. This is the story of their love. Their stories become the catalyst for a whole series of pictures of life during that bitter conflict and the people that lived through it.

Mark Collar has written a book worthy of the great ace Captain Albert Ball VC, and one, that deserves to become a classic. It tells the story of the tragedy of war, the loss of a fine young life-destined for post-war greatness in politics or business and of the loss of a fiancée by Flora, whose story it tells properly for the first time.

Any serious student of WW1 history should read this, for it gives a wealth of background and detail, not normally shown in books regarding Albert and the author
