Andrew Grey (Goodreads Author)
When Michael accepts a company assignment overseas, he doesn't count on being dumped by his boyfriend on the way to the airport. The breakup is a bad omen--Michael's time in Europe would be one long misery of loneliness and corporate backbiting if it weren't for his friendship with his coworker, Stephan.

Being Dutch, but having lived in California for almost 11 years, I'll read any slashfic that takes place in the Netherlands. So far I have one wooden tulip in my bathroom and I go to Safeway with reusable grocery bags from Dirk and Xenos, but I'm sure in another decade or so I'll have Delft Blue plates on the wall, kissing Delft Blue couples on the bookshelf and a wooden shoe with flowers in it nailed next to the front door.

Probably the reason why I liked this novel will be lost to many readers, but that’s it, we all are different: the main character, Michael, is an American IT project manager sent in an European department to follow a project… well more or less what I was doing until last year, only that I my route was from Europe to Asia. In any case, the level of detail on Michael’s job and his issues are accurate and realistic, and the tension just the right level. It sounds strange, I know, but I think Michael...more

“He knew he really should not be looking at his friend’s butt.” I don’t see why not, nothing like a nice backside to motivate a person.
Oh poo! Can a reviewer say that? I don’t know, but this reviewer found herself fanning her face and saying it a lot while reading this book.

It seems dramatic to say so, but this may be one of the worst books I've ever read. Unfortunately it's true. I've enjoyed Andrew Grey's books in the past despite their flaws, but this one was nearly unforgivable. The biggest issues are as follows:
1.) The characters. They are boring, bland, impossible to connect with, and simply moronic. On more than one occasion I wondered if the main character, Michael, was meant to come off as mentally impaired. Not to mention that Stephan reads as a very slow...more

This book started rreeaaaallllyyyy slow for me. I actually stopped a few times and went off and did other stuff before I cam back to it, but by the time Michael had really settled down in the Netherlands, the story had picked up and I couldn't be away from the story. I even read it while watching the movie "Rio" (I don't know half of what happened in that movie. LOL). The struggle Michael went through in accepting a relationship with Stephan was for me frustrating, but I'm sure that's how Mr. Gr...more

After being dumped on the way to the airport, Michael leaves for the Netherlands for a job that will last six months. On the flight he meets a lady who helps him see that it was probably for the best. Once he arrives he meets Stephan, a co-worker, and they quickly become friends. The relationship between Michael and Stephan builds into a stronger commitment the longer they spend together. But is it enough to last after the six months are up?

Michael is a project manager that is being sent overseas to head a European project in the Amsterdam area. Characters:
Michael is an information systems project manager for Shoe Box, an international athletic shoe retailer, with his life in line: he likes his job (if not his direct supervisor) and he's got a hot boyfriend who's been throwing around the L-word. Things begin to fall apart when he has a stint in the European office all but forced upon him... which is when his character starts to fall apart, too. He's supposedly (self-proclaimedly) strong and forceful, but I never really see it. He actual...more

Nice, sweet story with little angst, lots of details about the MC's work, good sex at the right moments in the story, both heroes are good boys... They even drive safely: At one moment in the book, Michael turned his head to look at Stephan only after stopping at a red light .
I like that about Andrew Grey's characters. Most of his characters have good, strong work ethics, and are well behaved guys. I'm not always fond of characters so perfect, but I really like that about A. G. characters. He...more

This really is a treat to read. The story builds nice an slowly and the relationship is not rushed so the intensity grows with the two of them. Michael is a planner and Stephan takes things a day at a time but together they work really well because they understand the other. This had the potential to be a boring work based romance but it went above and beyond to create a truly memorable tale.

2012 Review:
Yep. Single perspective, cultural stereotypes, wooden dialogue, lots of repetitions. As expected from this author. XD
I really should have counted on the tons of extraneous details and the tourist trip descriptions as well, but eh.
Strangely, I’m still in the mood for boring and safe. Maybe I’ll find another by this author… Although it does begin to bore me past what I wanted. ^^ At the very least I’d love a dual perspective again.

This story seemed as though someone took a log kept during an overseas temp job and threaded a story though it. Unfortunately it gives the entire store a practical and pedantic feel. Even the dialog feels lifeless and only one of the characters seemed to have any life. It gets 2 stars because even though it was somewhat boring, it wasn't actually bad.
