Believable characters, despite their slightly comic undertones. Story becomes progressively darker when main conceit is revealed. This doesn't happen until the middle of the novel, though, so it's a slow burn. Afterwards, things become more interesting and conflicts increase. Structurally, this story meanders like a stream of consciousness, which may or may not appeal, depending upon the reader's desire for narrative and thematic framing.
