Yes I am a 30 something year old mother that still reads Middle Grade books. And not just because I have middle grade kids. ;)
This book had me from the captivating quote found on the very first page. Pick up the book or visit the author's website to find it. As soon as you read it you'll know which line hooked me.
The depth of these characters and the plot were amazing.

Born To Be A Dragon is a cute middle grade story about a dragon and a human. I think it's something middle grade readers will like, but I do wonder how they will be able to get their hands on a book that's self-published and not available everywhere.
This book is told from Meia and Deglan, a human and a dragon. Meia daydreams about dragons, and Deglan (how do you pronounce that?) is a dragon. They meet one day on an island and their adventure kept me turning the pages to know what happens.

10 years ago few and far between were the fantasy novels for young kids. Luckily, things have changed quite a bit since then and now there are many series and stand-alone novels in the fantasy genre for pre-teens to choose from. Of course, this can make it easy to miss some real gems.
Born to be a Dragon is one of those gems that I plan to share with my own kids. Set in a sort of "Alternate Reality" where dragons and magic are real, Eisley Jacobs has crafted a story that is on one hand pure fant...more

For someone who loves the children’s through young adult market, books written for a middle grade audience are some of the most fun to read. The target audience is always ready to suspend disbelief and allow their imaginations full reign and yet are looking for some more complex issues to encounter between the pages. As a child, I loved to lose myself in a book. To enter the world the author devised and play the words on the page like a movie in my head… and, I’ll admit it, I still do. For those...more

And dragons are what plagues her dreams.

This was a sweet story about friendship, family, being true to your self...and dragons!
The whole time I was reading it I kept thinking, "why am I not reading this to my sons right now?" But I wanted to keep reading, to find out what would happen next, and not wait for the right time to start the book over reading it to my boys.
Now that I've finished it I will let my boys (ages 5 and 6) enjoy it as well!

This book was surprising to me. I figured since it was written for a middle grade audience I wouldn't enjoy it but I guess good writing can be enjoyable for more than just their target audience.
This is a very good book for a middle grade child that loves adventure and fantasy. Once my daughter has read it I'll add her review to this one.

Eisley Jacobs lives in Shingle Springs, California with her three children and husband. Eisley actively writes the characters that stroll through her head. The first YA Novel she completed was in high school, but somehow got lost in the shuffle into real life.
