I am surprised how many great reviews this book has. I've decided to read it because the plotline seemed thrilling and I am sucker for a romance, but I am also a picky reader and I demand some quality from the author. I've seen all the great reviews exclaiming how spectacular the book is. And I have to say that for me, reading it was literally painful. I feel that this book had such a potential, the story was beautifully layered but all that was very badly delivered.

I've decided to read it because the plotline seemed thrilling and I am sucker for a romance, but I am also a picky reader and I demand some quality from the author. I've seen all the great reviews exclaiming how spectacular the book is. And I have to say that for me, reading it was literally painful. I feel that this book had such a potential, the story was beautifully layered but all that was very badly delivered.
If you click on "more", there are gonna be spoilers. That is so much I didn't like about this book. The most that annoyed me were shallow characters I couldn't make myself care about and their illogical actions and thinking. And, sometimes, the lack of continuity. (this is taken from my blog)

The beginning was okay and the first few lines really intrigued me. The author was observant and it the story was just a mystery that made you keep reading. You know, a girl having dreams of mysterious stranger for several years, living with a single yet cool parent, high school problems, yadda yadda. It’s true that I didn’t believe that nobody noticed her surname was the same as one of the most popular families in America. Hey, people tend to notice if they learn about your grandparents in a history class. So I didn’t believe that she led a quiet life, with everybody oblivious to who she really was.

Then her mom dies. And from then on it felt like being in a soap opera. The scene where the officer tells her that her mom died in a car accident? “Your mom died.” “No!” “Sorry.” “That’s not true!” “Yes it is.” “But she’s coming.” “No she’s not.” “Okay.” It lacked emotions. I mean, her only parent died. Someone, who's been not only her mother but also her best friend.

One thing that annoyed me was the overuse of exclamation marks. I felt like reading an english student’s book. I’d rather read about how the heroine felt than make it out from the cheerfulness of her sentence.

Another thing that I couldn’t swallow was the heroine’s mood swings. I think that the worst thing that can happen is a pliant, non-believable heroine. For example, Michele had a mission to warn Phillip not to kill himself. But when she hopped in time, she was suddently so occupied with the beauty of 1920's New York and spent time with her great-great-grandmother or who was she and she had a good time, like she completely forgot what she was there for. Yes, I would be astonished to see New York 90 years ago, but I think my mind would be more on "oh my God, my true love is going to kill himself, why am I wasting my precious time in the past?" She was suspicious with her grandparents and in the next moment, she let it all fall. What? Why?

Another thing that annoyed me was how rushed the romance felt. Yeah, I know what love at first sight means, but really. She saw him, he saw her and 50 pages later, they confessed their love for each other. Seriously? I know that she’s been dreaming about him she doesn’t actually know him. She spent a few hours with him and she already loves him? I just didn't buy it.

And the guy, Phillip. He saw her as a 15 year old just materialize before him and he was like “OMG what’s your name?!” Yes, very believable for a guy that lives in 1907 and tries to scream “Witchcraft!” at the mention of a computer. He’s oblivious to what she’s doing here, apparently he is so enthralled with her he doesn’t wonder what is a strange girl with strange clothes doing in his house, but okay.

And the lack of continuity. Michele got dressed in formal and went to 1910 so as not to scare the people in 1910 with her modern dress (so we forgot no one could actually see her except Clare, but well). And she got back at like… 4:30am and when her grandparents asked her where she was, she told them she’s been studying with her schoolmates and they bought it. Okay, so no one noticed her standing there dressed in formalwear? Was I the only one who found it strange?

Characters acted so out of their characters sometimes. I didn’t have the time to care for Michele and neither for Phillip because at the end of the book, I didn’t really know them. The author was too focused on describing the situation to give their characters life or a spirit. Who were her grandparents? Were they strict? Loving? Did they care? Were they hiding something? Did they know about her father? For most of the time I was just confused how the people really felt, who they really were.

They say she struggles to live her high school life and her life in the past. I didn’t see any struggle in high school. I thought that there would be some kind of a twist in a story, something happening. I thought maybe those snotty girls who grabbed her at the beginning were going to do something. That Ben kid, who asked her to a prom. She just replied “I’m spoken for.” and that was the end of the story. The author introduced us to the characters that got literally NO development and felt useless in the story. What was all that Caissie and Aaron hint of a romance for? It felt like something to write just to fill the blank pages. Nothing happened in high school.

Some of the so-called “surprises” didn’t really surprise me at all. I knew Henry Irving and Irving Henry were the same person like… 50 pages before she wrote “I know who he is. He is my father!” I hardly suppressed the need to roll my eyes and impatiently grunt “You don’t say.” Some of the twists were beautiful and they could be delivered really spectacularly, like the Phillip Walker/Phoenix Warren/Michele composition thing and how the story clicked in places, but it was written so bad and the characters were so unrealistic that I just couldn’t stomach it.(less)

Holy Cow did I adore this book! I've been sick the whole weekend and my husband was kind enough to let me spend Sunday in bed (Okay I lie, I put my foot down and told him I was not getting out of bed!) but anywho, I read this book in one sitting. Embarrassingly, I think what made me actually decide to buy this book was the cover, and I was possibly more convinced to buy the book because I wasn't thinking decisively.

I thought the whole concept of time-traveling and falling in love with some guy from like 200 years or whatever was interesting, but honestly, I felt like I was reading a book by a 12 year old. It was girly, and the characters were boring and didn't have enough personality.

Alexandra has a gift for description. I love all of the research and history found in this book. "Bee-stung pout" is an excellent phrase that made me giggle. I also think we have similar tastes in men since her romantic hero looks a lot like Ren. It's double the fun reading a book you like when you've met the author. Alright, let me tell you something, this book was simply amazing, and here are my reasons why:

For one, it literally left me with something I like to call a complete brain rape. What's a brain rape, you ask? It's a book that, at night, left me so totally shocked that I literally lay awake for an extra hour after finishing going what the hell just happened? This book was so intertwined with every single bit of information that Monir ever introduced to us (like her name! Come on don't tell me that'...more Alright, let me tell you something, this book was simply amazing, and here are my reasons why:

For one, it literally left me with something I like to call a complete brain rape. What's a brain rape, you ask? It's a book that, at night, left me so totally shocked that I literally lay awake for an extra hour after finishing going what the hell just happened? This book was so intertwined with every single bit of information that Monir ever introduced to us (like her name! Come on don't tell me that't not cute). It does what few have done to me lately: it made me THINK. I had to look back at all of the moments that were so touching and personal, and realize that she had all of this planned from the start, and I didn't even realize it! Most books you know what's going to happen chapters before the idiotic protagonists do, but this book let me on to it so slowly, secretly, and carefully, that things I totally discounted in the first couple of chapters had such a great significance that I was teary-eyed by the end of the novel. It almost reminded me of a mix of Time Traveller's Wife and an old classic Great Expectations with all of the conjoined bits and pieces. All of the clues and info that she gave us had a specific purpose, and I just loved it.

And the love story here, I mean, come on! If you didn't love these two together then you're crazy. It was so pure, and simple, and just easy . I slid right into their relationship together as quickly as they did, and it never felt unnatural like Patch and Nora in Hush, Hush where the only "relationship" that they seem to have is making out and then arguing about them making out. I loved the whole composer-lyricist angle. To some that might seem cheesy, but to me it felt perfect, like they were the actual piece to the other's puzzle, and as cliche as that sounds, Monir makes it work splendidly. And then when Michele figures out that Phillip supposedly dies, I felt anguish just as she did. It was so incredibly heartbreaking and emotional, and when she made her decision I was so torn (which is exactly what I want when I read a novel) I wanted them to be together, but I didn't want anything to happen to Phillip! And like I said earlier, how she ties everything in, to Phoenix, to her name, even to her running into him three years earlier ( I went ohhhh that's why he said that at the ball! ). And the ending! It just came out of nowhere, and I'll talk about it farther down in my review so I can get my total geek out hahah.

What I also just adored was her writing and her amazing imagery. Describing New York and its streets with clopping horses and flickering glass lamps so I felt like I was standing in the middle of old New York which I'm sure was just as stunning as she wrote it, that's how real it felt to me while I read. She also did a phenomenal job describing the family members from her past. Lily Windsor had to be my favorite, though,I just loved her spunk and spontaneity; she just did whatever the hell she wanted with style (that disguise scene was hilarious). And how Michele played such a leading role in pretty much her whole family dating back to the 1900's was just so awesome; every time she went back had a purpose to change lives of her family and others. She didn't just go back all willy-nilly because she wanted to try a carriage ride or buy a dress or something really dumb, everything had a purpose, which is pretty rare in these days of YA disasters.

Another thing I really enjoyed was how much mystery she was able to back in about 30 short pages! I just need to know everything that happened, where is her dad and will she find her, what will they do? What is all that crap with the bump-in-the-night screams with her grandparents? And the biggest thing: That cliffhanger.

Oh.

My.

God.

That has got to be one of the WORST cliffhangers I've ever had to read, ever! It feels like she was going to keep on writing, but suddenly had a coma or something at someone took the book and published it! (totally plausible, guys) whyyy oh whyyy did she do this to us! I need to know what happens right now! Does he remember her? How did he get into the past? Was it because of his ring? Is he Phoenix's grandson or something?! Aughhhh I just don't understand, which makes me want the book that much more! This is serioulsy a problem, Monir!

In conclusion of this review, this book from beginning and on, picked me up and swept me into a whirlwind of writing, love, and sheer awesomeness, and dropped me off painfully on my ass just as I was getting used to the incredible ride. If I could use mind control on everyone, I would, because this book needs to be read by everyone, so if you're debating on picking this book up, I'm not asking, I'm telling, do it. Hopefully you will laugh, love, cry, and drool over this book just as much as I did.

As long as it has a happy ending I'm all for it.

This looks like one of the impossible "star-crossed" romances. Such difficult situations do bring up strong feelings but I'm not one of those people who enjoy pointless angst.

That doesn't mean the story has to be all flowers and sunshine but an ending with a nice solid solution that leaves the heroine with a hopeful outlook on her life would be appreciated.

I would love to read this book then.

Michele Windsor, the protagonist of the novel, loses her mother in a drunk driving incident. Devastated, she is sent to live with her ridiculously wealthy grandparents who had previously "disowned" her mother. Her mother was, in part, disowned because of Michele; when she was just a young adult, her mother had fallen in love with a mysterious young man by the name of Henry Irving. As Henry Irving was not especially rich or famous, the Windsors disapproved. In order to marry her first love, Michele's mother runs away with Henry Irving only to be seemingly abandoned by him before Michele's birth. Michele and her mom live along with each other for company.

After the aforementioned terrible car accident, Michele is sent to live with her wealthy grandparents, the Windsors. Unable to get comfortable in her new extravagant home and unwelcoming school, Michele looks through boxes brought from her California home and finds an interesting key. When the key draws her to a lock containing Clara's (an ancestor) diary, Michele is miraculously transported back to 1910. There she meets her ethereal ancestor Clara, as well as her love interest, Philip. Can a relationship survive the gap of time?

I liked this book from the start, the writing is descriptive, but not to the point of annoyance, the main character's feelings and anxieties are tangible throughout the novel, and the reader gets a sense of the pervading atmosphere of the novel. This book is great for readers who enjoy fantasy/magic, romance, and intrigue. I was so happy to reach the end of the book and find a "To Be Continued".(less)

Well by the time I was barely 30 pages in, those doubts flew away. THIS BOOK IS AMAZING. There are so much levels to how amazing this book is. First, the characters. Michele was such an awesome main character. She was honest, sweet, loving, caring, and exactly the kind of person I'd want to be friends with. Philip was great, too! I loved their romance of past vs. present, it was such a different, unique concept for me! Plus, they bonded over music. Music is universal and can withstand time, so it seemed like the perfect thing thing for them to share. Second, the time-travel. This book has made me realize how amazing historical fiction is. I seriously think I should have been born in the 20's. All the flappers, speakeasy's, jazz. It seemed like such a great atmosphere. The book also went to 1910, where Philip and Michele's romance truly began. And then the 1940's, complete with the war bond rally's, rations, V for Victory, the war effort. I loved every minute of it! When reading Timeless, you are immersed into another world, full of history and excitement. This book has completely renewed my love for historical fiction!! Third, the mystery. You might not know it in the beginning, but there are holes in the story. As you weave your way through the book, the holes start filling up with answers that you didn't realize you needed. Then you start putting together the loose ends. Wow, the mystery aspect was just great. History is a mystery, so I loved reading about Michele discovering those things. Overall, this book is a total must-read. There is something for everyone. You can definitely bet this book is a new favorite.(less)

Oh. My. God. This book was absolutely flipping FANTASTIC. You don't really see alot of time travel-y novels in the YA universe. I just loved everything about this book.

She goes back to the past to tell him and say bye forever. After years of not going back into the past she returns one day to see him because she misses him too much. When they meet he tells her how much he missed her and he loves her. Right before she gets sucked back to the present, he tells her that he will come to her somehow in the future. Theme: The past will always leave a big impact in your life in the future. For example, in Perks of being a wall flower the event in the past left a big impact in his life. The past can change you or shape you. So because of how he got raped in the past that affected him in every way possible. He became awkward and anti-social because of that and that changed him. In “Timeless” the past effected her life to because she changed her views on boy in the present.

They end up talking and he tells her that she told him to go there separate ways. She gets really sad but she really can't do anything about it. They both still have feeling for each other but there's nothing they can really do because they live in different times.

Resolution: This is the best part on the book because they do end up not seeing each other even tho she still goes back on time. She sees her past relatives and she helps them out with things they need. She goes back to school and the teacher says something that changes everything. They teacher says that there is a new student in class and that his name is Philip.

Theme: the theme for this book is not to give up. A book I can relate this to is sever because Rhine never have up on what she wanted. Both books connect because they even though they lost hope along the way, they found the resolution. Something that they have different is that they were both trying to do different things. Rhine was looking for her brother and Michele was looking for a way to get her boyfriends into her time. What iv learned from this, is not to give up and continues to fight for what you want. If you keep on trying you will get what you want and you won't regret not trying to get her to what you really want. (less)

Okay, I think this book deserves more than 3 stars but not as much as 4. I normally don't read reviews until after I have read a book, nor do I usually comment on other reviews but I did look at some reviews when I was half-way through this book. I was surprised at how many did not like this and criticized the writing. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I would remind some of the critics that this is a Teen Fiction not adult fiction so I would urge those that criticized the writing to keep that in mind.

Da ich schon seit längerer Zeit keinen Zeitreise-Roman mehr gelesen habe, war die Vorfreude auf dieses Buch enorm. Schon den Anfang fand ich super! Die Autorin beginnt gleich mit einem riesigen Schock für Michele. So musste man nicht lange warten, bis es richtig spannend wurde. Schon bei Micheles erstem Tag bei ihren Großeltern geht es drunter und drüber.

Endlich hatte ich wieder das Gefühl, das Buch nicht mehr aus der Hand legen zu können. Wenn doch, war es eine Qual! Ich wollte unbedingt wissen, wie es weitergeht und weshalb dies alles mit Michele geschieht! Alexandra Monir bringt die Dinge mit ihrem Schreibstil wirklich auf den Punkt, ohne dass dabei Spannung und Emotionen leiden.

Michele ist - im Gegensatz zu ihren Großeltern und ihrer entfernten Verwandtschaft - ein ganz normales Mädchen. Nicht erpicht auf Luxus und Aufmerksamkeit. Als sie dann das Herrenhaus ihrer Großeltern sieht, kommt es ihr eher wie ein Traum vor. Man merkt ganz deutlich, wie sehr ihr dieses neue Leben missfällt. Weit entfernt von ihrer Mutter muss sie sich jedoch trotzdem irgendwie zurechtfinden und findet schließlich sogar eine neue Freundin. Ihre Gefühle für den geheimnisvollen Jungen aus ihren Träumen sind sehr authentisch und durchaus nachvollziehbar.

Philip, der Junge aus Micheles Träumen, ist für sein Alter bereits sehr erwachsen. Er ist ein sehr höflicher, aufgeschlossener und liebevoller Mann. Auch er hat Michele schon einmal gesehen. Doch wie ist das möglich? Nie zuvor ist sie in die Vergangenheit gereist. Verwechselt er sie etwa mit einem anderen Mädchen?

Das Cover gefällt mir ziemlich gut. Natürlich ist es nichts Besonderes mehr, wenn ein Mädchengesicht abgebildet ist, doch der Sternenhimmel im Hintergrund und Micheles Halskette fand ich richtig toll. Der gewählte Titel könnte nicht besser passen, doch noch besser hätte er mir gefallen, wenn er einen Zusatz hätte wie etwa der zweite Teil "Timeless - Schatten der Vergangenheit". Beim Klappentext habe ich extra den Text auf dem Buchrücken gewählt, da der im Buch viel zu viel verrät. Hier steht zwar nicht annähernd so viel, doch meiner Meinung nach hört es sich trotzdem spannend an und regt zum Lesen an.

Fazit: "Timeless" hat mich total überrascht und begeistert! Die Geschichte ist wunderschön und hat mich schon auf den ersten Seiten mitgerissen. Zudem sind einige Tränen gekullert, was an für sich schon sehr viel sagt. Ich kann euch dieses Buch wirklich mit gutem Gewissen ans Herz legen! "Timeless - Die Schatten der Vergangenheit" wird voraussichtlich am 17. Juni 2013 erscheinen und ich kann es jetzt schon kaum erwarten, mehr zu erfahren!(less)

Die Charaktere, insbesondere die jugendliche Michele, aus deren Sicht das Buch in der dritten Person geschildert wird, sind gut umgesetzt und wirken von Anfang an nicht nur sympathisch, sondern auch sehr real. Durch eine gewisse Liebe zum Detail haucht die Autorin ihren Figuren leicht Leben ein und lässt gut vorstellbare Bilder von ihnen und ihrer Umgebung im Kopf des Lesers entstehen. Einen zusätzlichen Reiz bekommt der Roman durch das besondere Setting in New York, verteilt auf mehrere Jahrzehnte, die Michele bereist und deren spezifische Merkmale sie zusammen mit dem Leser wahrnimmt. Insbesondere die Musikszene der Zeit bekommt besonders viel Aufmerksamkeit und wird mit einiger Tiefe beschrieben. Die Musik verleit ‟Timeless“ einen nostalgischen, aber auch sehr gefühlsbetonten Charme, der mich als Leser schnell in seinen Bann zog.

Die Liebesgeschichte ist sowohl romantisch als auch sehr berührend. Sie beginnt stürmisch – Michele und Philip scheinen für einander bestimmt zu sein. Es ist, als hätten sie sich schon ewig gekannt, und das, obwohl sie ein ganzes Jahrhundert trennt. Doch hat eine Beziehung wie diese, die von Micheles Zeitreisen abhängt, eine Zukunft? Die Antwort, die Michele auf diese Frage finden wird, und die Ereignisse, die sie zu dieser Antwort führen werden, sind bewegend, traurig und sehr berührend und machen diese Liebesgeschichte alles andere als gewöhnlich. Sie ist etwas ganz besonderes und ging mir direkt ans Herz.

Insgesamt ist dieser Trilogie-Auftakt kein actionreicher, ja, genau genommen nicht einmal ein besonders spannungsgeladener Roman. Seine Stärke liegt eher in der Ruhe und der Nachdenklichkeit seiner Figuren, Dinge, die oft auch eine tiefe Traurigkeit ausstrahlen, wodurch mich die Handlung sehr berühren konnte. Durch ihre emotionale Tiefe und die interessanten Beziehungen der Charaktere, verteilt auf ein ganzes Jahrhundert, schafft es der Roman auch ohne einen hohen Spannungsbogen mit seinen ruhigeren Tönen zu überzeugen. Die Zeitreiseaspekte sind intelligent konstruiert und gut durchdacht. Das von der Autorin aufgebaute System ergibt Sinn und gehorcht einer – mit ein, zwei kleinen Ausnahmen - stimmigen Zeitreiselogik, die sich dem Leser leicht erschließt. Bis zum Ende können die Wendungen überraschen und zudem viel versprechende Fragen für den Folgeband zurücklassen. Genügend Geheimnisse warten noch darauf, gelüftet zu werden.

Meine Kritikpunkte bei ‟Timeless“ betreffen vor allem die Sprache und den Handlungsverlauf. Ersteres wirkte teilweise noch ein wenig unausgereift. Zwar liest sich das Buch flüssig und der Schreibstil kann auch die Umgebung und die Gefühle der Figuren gut einfangen und eindringlich vermitteln, zwischendurch fehlt allerdings ein wenig der Feinschliff, was sich in leichten Stolpersteinen bemerkbar machte. Das wäre allerdings immer noch zu verkraften gewesen, was aber viel mehr stört, ist der sehr sprunghafte Handlungsverlauf. Michele reist sehr schnell durch die Zeiten, wechselt sehr häufig hin und dann oft auch schnell wieder zurück. Oft hatte ich das Gefühl das den Charakteren und den Situationen einfach die Zeit fehlte, um sich vollständig zu entfalten – zu schnell verließ Michele den Moment wieder und war in einer völlig anderen Zeit. Dadurch wirkte das Buch leider gelegentlich etwas hektisch, was dem Roman ein wenig seiner ureigenen und von mir bereits lobend erwähnten Ruhe nahm.

Fazit: Abgesehen von kleinen Schwächen in der Sprache und einem etwas sprunghaften Handlungsverlauf ist ‟Timeless“ eine romantische Zeitreise ins New York des frühen 20. Jahrhundert. Eine berührende Liebesgeschichte, viel Musik und eine sympathische Protagonistin begleiten den Leser durch einige interessante Wendungen. Ein gelungener Reihenauftakt. 4 Sterne. Ich freue mich schon sehr auf die Fortsetzung.(less)

I've recently discovered I'm a total sucker for time travel romance. THE TIME TRAVELER'S WIFE really resonated with me and I was hoping to have a similar experience with TIMELESS by Alexandra Monir. And while TIMELESS didn't rip my guts out the way THE TIME TRAVELER'S WIFE did, I really enjoyed it and am happy that I have an ARC of the sequel waiting on my shelf because I love Alexandra Monir's writing and the worlds she's created for this series.

TIMELESS starts off with a huge tragedy that forces Michele to move away from her lifelong home in California to live with grandparents she's never met. It's a beginning designed to get you on Michele's side from the get go and it's pretty effective, though I did have some moments in the novel where I found Michele to be a bit juvenile. Not unreasonably so, given her circumstances, but her youth definitely shone through in certain moments. To be fair, of all of the contributors on the blog, I am the least likely to read YA, which may be why I didn't click 100% with TIMELESS' protagonist. That being said, Michele won me over as the novel progressed and I was completely engrossed in her story. By the time I hit the last third of the novel, I was desperate to see if she and Philip (the guy she meets in 1910) would be able to be together.

Alexandra Monir has a beautiful writing style. I love her voice. She describes all of the settings so vividly that you get a clear picture of both Michele's modern life and what she sees when she travels back in time. I felt like the past was pictured in a very evocative manner and it really had a sense of place. You're completely immersed in the past and those scenes were definitely my favourites. The author's done a great job of capturing the romance of the past and also some of the practical differences.

Michele's romance with Philip is also quite lovely. He has turn-of-the-century values s there aren't many physical expressions of feelings. Instead, it's all words and emotion, a nice, more old-fashioned change of pace from a lot of stories set in modern times. You can see the connection that Philip and Michele have, even after a few meetings.

I really liked the way that Alexandra Monir handles the time travel aspects of TIMELESS. The mechanics aren't completely explained because Michele doesn't completely understand what's happening to her, but she makes some interesting discoveries and does contemplate the ramifications of her actions, which was refreshing. She's not a genius but she tries very hard to understand what is happening to her and how it might impact the lives of those around her. I appreciate how much Michele thought about her impact on the past and can't wait to see what happens next since TIMELESS ends in a really neat way.

The main character Michelle Windsor is just a typical high school student that had a single mother and never knew who her father was. Just heard stories about him and knew that on her mothers side she had a very wealthy family that she has never met. Well one day changes her life forever. Her mother drops her off to school and that is the last time Michelle sees her mother because her mother ends up being killed in a car accident. Well Michelle doesn't have any family until she finds out that her mothers parents want her to move to New York City to live with them. First thing is she never has met them and second she always thought they never wanted to meet her. So when she arrives she is use to living in a house where her mom had to work so hard to make money and now she is living in a huge mansion and never has to worry about money. Before she left she ended up meeting with a lawyer and was given some jewelry that was her mothers. In the safety deposit box she discovers a key and wonders what it is. Well in her room she discovers a diary that was written by one of her relatives and when she goes to open it up she notices the key is shaking and moving so she goes to the key and when she touches it along with the diary she ends up going back in time. When she goes back in time in 1910 she ends up going to a ball and at that ball she notices a very handsome man that looks so familiar. Then she thinks about it and that man was the man that she has been dreaming about her entire life. At the ball he notices her and she looks familiar to him. Well every time she wears this key she can go back in time and be with Philip. Every time she goes back and hangs out with him the more she falls in love with him. So Michelle is trying to stay in the 20th century but sometimes she ends up in the 1910s. But her biggest wish is to be with Philip forever.

There are a lot of things that happen in this book. Its a roller coaster book that keeps you on your toes and keeps you rooting for the main characters to be together. I was cheering them on until the end. Read this book because it was written beautifully by a wonderful author. The one question you need to ask yourself while reading this book. Would you love to go back and time and change things the way you want them to be to have a different future for yourself.(less)

Meine Meinung:
Während einer Bummeltour mit Julia (Huhu!) überkam es mich und ich habe mir das Buch spontan gekauft. Das Cover, genauso wie der Klappentext sprach mich an. Im Hinterkopf hatte ich die negativen Meinungen von Bloggern, auf deren Urteil ich vertraue, hatte aber das unbeschreibliche Gefühl, dass mir die Geschichte dennoch gefallen könnte. Die 14,95€ hätte ich mir letzendlich aber sparen können...

Zu Beginn der Geschichte findet man schnell den Handlungsstrang. Michele, die Protagonistin, hat immer wieder einen seltsamen Traum, dies wird also wohl der Grundstein der Geschichte sein. Das Problem dabei war nur, dass Michele so unglaublich farblos geblieben ist, dass ich natürlich auch gar nicht warm mit ihr wurde. Nicht mal der Verlust ihrer Mutter brachte ihr Mitleidspunkte ein. Um die Farblosigkeit zu beschreiben, muss ich etwas ausholen und hoffe, dass ich nicht allzu viel verrate. Michele ist eine Zeitreisende und findet sich zwischen 1910 und 1944 in New York wieder. Dort hilft sie ihren weiblichen Vorfahren, "ihren" Weg zu finden. So stammen ergo alle, wie Michele, aus der unglaublich versnobten Familie und sollen im Grunde genommen einen Geschäftsmann heiraten, der das Familienimperium weiterführen kann. Doch natürlich gibt es jene, die das nicht wollen. Beispielsweise Lily, die Sängerin werden möchte. Kurzum: Michele reist in die Vergangenheit, ermutigt sie, Sängerin zu werden und alle sind glücklich. Bei diesen Handlungsabläufen war Michele so farblos, überflüssig und einfach Fehl am Platze. Diese Lily wurde als sehr starke Frau beschrieben, auch ohne Michele's Eingreifen. Sie wäre also so oder so Sängerin geworden. Das Lenken von Michele war nicht nötig. Des weiteren wurde alles von anderen Charakteren gelenkt, wenn Michele mit ihnen zu tun hatte. Im Grunde genommen war sie nur eine Mitläuferin. Wenn ich jedoch ein Buch lese, möchte ich einen Charakter, der heraussticht, ob positiv oder negativ. Einfach jemanden, den man nicht so an jeder Straßenecke findet. Das war mit Michele jedoch nicht der Fall.

Außerdem wurde meines Erachtens thematisch zu viel aufgegriffen und direkt wieder fallen gelassen. Diese geheimnisvollen Träume, wieso ist das junge Mädchen eine Zeitreisende? Zwischenzeitlich verliebt sich Michele in einen jungen Mann aus dem Jahre 1910 und dann ist da noch das Verschwinden ihres Vaters. Wo ist er hin? Lebt er noch? All das wird fast zeitgleich aufgegriffen, doch bevor der Leser eine Spannung aufbauen kann und den Geheimnissen, samt Protagonistin, auf den Grund gehen kann, wird das nächste Thema angeschnitten und das aktuelle auf Seite geschoben. Mir war das zeitweise zu viel des Guten. Michele hatte ein großes Problem, befasste sich dann aber lieber mit den unwichteren Problemchen. Es war zu viel, zu wirr und überhaupt nicht spannend.

Wie bereits oben erwähnt habe, verliebt sich das junge Mädchen in einen Mann aus dem Jahre 1910. Das ganze ist naturlich problematisch, weil beide aus verschiedenen Zeitzonen stammen. Diesen Aspekt möchte ich außer Acht lassen, sonst würde ich dennoch zu viel von der Geschichte verraten. Was ich aber anmerken möchte, ist die Unglaubhaftigkeit, auf deren diese Liebesbeziehung aufgebaut wird. Die moderne Michele trifft auf den altertümlichen Philipp und wissen bereits nach dem ersten Aufeinandertreffen, dass sie füreinander bestimmt sind. Und auch hier gilt wieder, Michele wurde durch Philipp gelenkt. Sie handelte nicht eigenständig. Das war irgendwie für mich, dass Michele sich verlieben wollte und dieser junge Mann aus 1910 kommt gerade gelegen. Es war in meinen Augen nicht authentisch genug.

Allgemein war die Geschichte bzw. das Fortschreiten vorhersehbar, es baute sich kein Spannungsbogen auf, die Protagonistin war farblos und es wurde inhaltlich zu viel aufgegriffen, was man hätte ausbauen können, um die Geschichte interessanter zu gestalten.

Fazit:
Wie oben bereits erwähnt, das Geld hätte ich mir sparen können. Das unglaublich schöne Cover und der vielversprechende Klappentext lenken nicht davon ab, dass der Inhalt, meiner Meinung nach, völlig überflüssig ist. Hätte die Autorin gewisse Handlungsstränge verfolgt bzw. sich erstmal nur auf einen oder maximal zwei konzentriert, wäre "Timeless" sicher besser gewesen. (less)

i have a confession to make. i acctually finished this book this morning at around 2am. i had to stop whilst reading a few times to go and youtube the serenades referred to in the book- Schubert's serenade, to be exact. and then i had to go and try and find the sheet music so i could learn it on piano!

i have a confession to make. i acctually finished this book this morning at around 2am. i had to stop whilst reading a few times to go and youtube the serenades referred to in the book- Schubert's serenade, to be exact. and then i had to go and try and find the sheet music so i could learn it on piano!

ok, so obviously there were aspects that i loved, and then some aspects that i would have liked more of- more emotion, more romance, i think. which might be silly because this entire novel revolves around a deeply romantic plot, but except for the love letter (which i love love loved) from Phillip, i would have liked more from the second half of the book.

but this is where i get a little confused because whilst i would have liked more love, i acctually really enjoyed getting to better understand different characters and see Michele grow and become more mature from the events that occur.

i did guess the big twists pretty easily however, which was a little annoying as i waited for Michele to catch up. but there was one thing, and that thing took my breath away when i read it. well, two things, acctually.
anyone else find Michele being named Michele, well, so deeply romantic?

ok so i did cry in this book. a few times. which makes sense whith everything that happens. but the strange thing is that even though it made me cry sometimes the emotions fell a little flat for me. i dont know, maybe it was the whole 2am thing that was making me sleepy or something. but even if some of the characters felt a little 2D, the music included in the book is what made this one memorable.

well, that and Phillip!

the lyrics were gorgeous, the whole music weaving in and out of time to connect two people- i loved that. whilst reading this i played that song Sodade, some Tori Amos, and i think it fits so well with the tone of the novel.

this review is a little all over the place, isnt it? well i did enjoy this book- i recommend it to people who liked the River of Time series, but i have to (must!) recommend my all time favourite time slip romance Wake Unto Me.(less)

I love this book so much! I really love books about time travel. I really enjoyed reading this book and I cannot wait to read the next book in this series. I really loved the plot. To tell you the truth, I thought this book was going to be below average compared to the other books that I read. I was wrong! This book was above most of the other books that I read.
