I REALLY loved this book. I put off reading it because of my so-so reaction to DEVIL WITHOUT A CAUSE, the first book in this series. I felt this book moved so much smoother than the first.

With Samael and Gabriel actually being the main characters in this book, I felt more of a connection to Sammy and got to understand him better. You see a soft side of him that wasn’t there in book 1. His involvement with his son truly helps him as does his meddling with Gabriel.

With her sister pretty much dec...more

Sammy aka the Devil is frustrated with being cast out from heaven and most of all with Gabriel trying to prove to him that temptation can be resisted. Sammy decides to put Gabriel to test and see if he can resist the allure of a human female and the need to touch her the way an archangel are not allowed to do. Sammy decides to put a girl in Gabriel's path and at the same time getting something that he wants in return.

Hope tries to commit suicide and wants to succumb to the darkness. When Sammy h...more

Hope has lived with a lot of guilt over the years, starting when she was 12 years old with her parents untimely death. She and her sister were separated in the foster care system, then again two years ago when her sister went missing. Hope hits bottom when she is told her sister is most likely dead and does the unthinkable.

Gabriel, an Archangel and long time "friend" to Sammy Divine, knows Sammy is salvageable and capable of love, if only he can get Sammy to see it. Sammy feels Gabriel needs to...more

Torn between 4 and 5 stars. But I guess I can always change it later. I zoomed through this book. I loved Hope and Gabriel.Yes Gabe and Hope fell for each other very quickly. But I think as Gabes's character that yeah he feels everything more anyway so why not love? Hope annoyed me sometimes and then at other times I was like yeah I can relate. But they were great for each other and I think that by the end they saved each other. Oh man and the end proposal was great.

Sammy as always steals the...more

I hate being late on this review but I really struggled reading this book. I so wanted to like this book, but it just didn’t hit the spot for me as the first in the series. Sad, I know but I have to be honest.

Gabriel and Hope just didn’t carry that spark I needed for a couple to really connect. I also didn’t feel that Gabriel and Hope got enough storyline between everything else going on. I needed to read more on them instead of Sammy and so much of his life. As for Hope, I didn’t car...more

I enjoyed this book more than Devil Without a Cause, but I still found it to be a little disappointing. As with that book, my main complaint is that not enough time was spent on Sammy. I will say that A Devil Named Desire does spent more time with him than the previous one did, but I still spent a lot of time wishing the narrative would get back to his POV.

The scenes between Gabe and Sammy were great. There is some serious tension between the two of them. I also enjoyed the parts (and there we...more

The first book in this series is Devil Without a Cause. That was the first book in which I met Sammy the Devil but this series is the offshoot of another, Nicki Styx. I haven't read those yet, but I promise you I will! So, as you can see, you do not have to have read the original series to enjoy this one... and Sammy in particular. *wink* You also don't have to read the first one to know what is going on in this book, but I do suggest it. You will understand where Sammy is coming from so much ea...more

Quick & Dirty: A discovery of love, in all its many forms, along with brotherly ragging and child stubbornness.

Opening Sentence: The water in the bathtub was warm, soothing, and a beautiful shade of red.

The Review:

I have a confession to make. I wasn’t sure whether or not I would enjoy a book where an Archangel gets down and dirty with a woman. It sounds similar to many of the other angel books available right now. Well, let me put your mind at ease. This i...more

Oh Sammy Divine, finally we meet again. First of all can we all take a look at that fine looking man on that cover? Okay, now that we have drooled and hoped that those pants would slip a little further down, lets get down to the details of the book.

It seems like I have waited forever to read more about Sammy Divine -- or The Devil -- and the bargains he would be making with the next unfortunate soul on Earth. This time not only is he going to be tormenting a human soul on Earth, but he is going...more

I enjoyed Devil Without a Cause so when A Devil Named Desire, the second book of Terri Garey's The Devil's Bargain series was offered to me, I couldn't resist. Tired of Gabriel's lectures on love and lust, Sammy B Divine seizes an opportunity when in despair, Hope tries to commit suicide. In her moment of weakness Samuel extracts a promise from the web designer, the location of her long lost sister for the dissemination of the Key - the incantations that open the gates of hell on Earth - on the...more

It's funny, I have all of Terri Garey's Nicki Styx books sitting on my shelf to read...I read 2 when they first came out and now am going to reread plus read all of them in one sitting. Anyway, I found while reading this book I kept looking forward to the moments when Cain and Sammy Devine were in it. I laughed my self silly over the interaction of the big bad Devil and one precocious, innocent *snort*, 9 year old boy! (I'm not telling who wins in those skirmishes) The main story is about God's...more

Sammy Devine, aka Samael, heard Hope’s call as she lay dying in her bath tub, having slit her wrists. For two years, Hope has searched for her sister, Charity, who has been missing with no clue to her whereabouts. Not knowing what happened to her was one thing, but when Charity’s purse is found by the police and she’s presumed dead, Hope just gives up. As she hovers at the brink of death, a beautiful man appears to her. He tells her that her sister is not dead and that he knows how to find her,...more

REVIEWED FOR NETGALLEY:

Hope gives up hope, literally, when she receives the news that her sister who has been missing for two years might be dead. She has carried the heavy burden of blame, and that is the straw that breaks the camel's back. She attempts to take her own life, but quickly discovers it is not meant to be when the Devil A.K.A. Sammy Divine shows up and shocks the pants off of her. It turns out that her sister is alive, and Sammy is willing to help her locate her if she does a small...more

A DEVIL NAMED DESIRE by Teri Garey is an interesting paranormal romance with on Sammy and Gabriele as the main characters. It is book 2 in the "Devil's Bargain" series, but can be read as a stand alone. See, "Devil Without a Cause", the first volume in this series. Two brothers, two archangels, one a fallen angel,Samuel "Sammy" the "Devil"the angel of darkness and Gabriel, the angel of lightness and Sammy's brother. Sammy sets out to prove to Gabriel that forbidden fruit can be delicious although fo...more

I love Samael’s role in this series. He does things that benefit him while manipulating other people’s lives. Sam has decided that Gabriel needs to experience desire. Following a desire is what caused Sam’s fall. In the process of tempting Gabe, Sam plans on using Hope’s desperation to put a book into print on the internet so that the world will have access to the information in its pages.

I did not feel Hope and Gabriel’s insta-love. Hope had feelings of love immediately after a very traumatic e...more

It seems like with each book in this series we see more and more of the real Samael. It seems odd to say, but with each book I feel more and more sorry for him, being the Devil just isn't cutting it anymore.

Sammy seems to love to tease and annoy Gabriel, his brother, the only one that seems to talk to him any more. Even with all the bad things that Sammy has done, Gabriel still wants to believe in him even as he yells at him.

Sammy, being the devil, sets up Gabriel. He wants to him to see what l...more

Hope Henderson is in a state of despair over her sister's supposed death. After a series of unfortunate events throughout her life--her parent's deaths and running her sister off unintentionally--Hope blames herself for everything that has gone wrong. She is so depressed, in fact, that she attempts to kill herself, unwittingly calling upon the Darkness. And that is when Sammy Divine, the devil himself, steps in to save the day.

Sammy, always the Master of Deceit, has his own agenda. Give Hope th...more

Look at that cover, that right there is the type of cover I hate. Half naked, weirdly built man with no face! Aside from that, from what I can gather this is possibly the 2nd (?) in a series from Terri Garey. I'm not entirely sure, there's no mention of it on her website but there is a book called Devil Without A Cause, which has a similar weird cover. Although, that book is listed as coming soon with a release date of May 2011 so I don't think the author keeps that up to date.

I wasn't entirely...more

If you haven’t read book one you should probably stop reading now. There are spoilers in all aspects of this review for book one and I can’t help that as the twist in book one is the main story for book two. Also, if you are a person of devout Catholic faith, you should probably know that this book contains a storyline which plays with traditional scripture. If neither of these things bother you, this book is a definite winner.

Hope feels that her life is over. For years, she has searched for her...more

First Thought When Finished: I *heart* Sammy! (Somehow it feels a little wrong to say that LOL)

What I Loved: To be honest, I wasn't sure how I would feel about Gabe. I love Gabe and Sammy's brotherly banter but I wasn't sure I could see him as a love interest. Boy was I wrong! I loved Gabe as a leading man. I thought he was just yummy to the extreme (breaking out my 80s lingo). He...more

I have to admit Sammy’s plan was really effective. He was so sure that Gabe was going to bite his lure. But how did he know that? Hmm… Maybe he’s just a good planner. Anyway, I was so sorry Charity had to disappear in Hope’s life. Anyway, for me this story revolves on love and sacrifice, especially when Gabe was willing to be sacrificed so that Hope and her sister will be saved. But I was really impressed when Gabe instead sacrificed himself for Sammy and his son. And what a son Cain is! Just li...more

3 1/2 stars. Distraught by the reported death of her sister, Hope decides to kill herself, thus ending her pain. However, as she slips away a man appears and tells her that her sister is alive and he will tell Hope where she is, if Hope will do one little thing for him. Of course the man is Sammy, aka Satan and he is really setting a trap for Gabriel, the archangel. It is a love trap, but a trap never the less.

I liked this book. I lked the first book, Devil Without a Cause., better. But this one...more

I need more Sammy! When is the third book coming?

I really think it's more like 2.5 stars, I really did not like Gabe and Hope together. I had high hopes for Gabe and I really did not like Hope. I liked the opening where Sammy comes to her but that was about it. I really disliked how after knowing him for less than a day, she's "in love" with Gabe. I just felt no chemistry whatsoever between these two. I found myself skimming the scenes where it was only Gabe and Hope and looking for Sammy's appearance. The saving grace of the book is Sammy and...more

Personally, I love this author. With her Nikki Styx series, Terri Garey has taken elements of Creation (God, Angels, etc) & forbidden love to make a tall "twisted" ice cream cone chock full of nuts, toffee, fruity stuff & other cool stuff...

If you can get past the twisted take on God (redefined as "The One"), Satan (aka "Sammy"), a Chief Archangel with a "Love Jones", & a Demon with a Heart for a Snotty-nosed little brat, then this just may be the book for you..

What Ms Terri Garey did with this book is amazing! I love the way she has entwined her character's! Sammy is the perfect devil; he's sexy and cocky with the right twist of wit. I simply love how she is writing his story and learning not all is as it seems! Brovo and i can't wait til the next book is out and i really can't wait til Sammy's story is told!!!!!!

If you thought you would never want to meet the devil, you might review your desire. Sam is everything you could wish in a man! He is hot! He has power, pride and manly ways. He has been betrayed. He thought he was not capable of a single good deed again. He was wrong.
The story grabs you by the hair and only let go when it ends. I recommend.

This second installment to The series was better than the first. I love how Sammy, the 'Devil' is not this huge evil fork tailed character but a man who's bad choices rule his life. We see little snippets though of his humanity shining through and I can't wait for the next book. So glad how things turned out for Gabriel :D

A Southern girl with an overactive imagination, Terri Garey writes award-winning and critically-acclaimed urban fantasy. Her novels have been described as "smoldering" by Publishers Weekly, and "sultry and upbeat" by Library Journal. Even though she's a big scaredy-cat who can't watch horror movies or visit haunted houses, she loves moonlit graveyards, moss-covered headstones and the idea that lif...more
