This book drew me in from the first page! I haven't read a lot of time travel romance books but now I'm thinking maybe I should put more on my list! First we meet Jessica Delaney. She is a modern day woman who is in the middle of dealing with her own grief and loss when she is in a car accident and the impossible happens....she is catapulted back in time. She finds herself in the wild west. 1800's style!!
This is where her adventure begins. She meets sheriff Wade Truman under circumstances that a...more

My Truman

I enjoyed this book. The heroine, Jessica was very strong and plucky. Accidentally time traveling to 1881 Dodge City, Kansas wear jeans with a zipper (gasp), red stilettos and a leather jacket, she immediately drew the attention of the Sherriff. Sherriff Truman Wade is so yummy. A quick draw with his six shooter, and an earnest heart, he is the stuff women's fantasies are made of. Truman is gorgeous, wears a Stetson and can whistle for his horse, Thunder, who will come running. Why is t...more

It was ok quite rightly describes my feelings towards this novel.
This was a very light read, which surprised me, considering it was a time-travel novel. But it could have easily been a novella. There was not a lot of serious conflicts involved. I like a lot of emotion and a sense of "realness" in my books, esp. when it comes to the characters. That sense of "realness" was lacking - and it had nothing to do with the time travel aspect. I just found that the author didn't describe Jessica and Trum...more

Honestly, I am getting really frustrated by book ratings, especially on Amazon. This author and book has a nearly 5 star rating on Amazon, so I bought it. However, I feel like it is entirely undeserved.
In my opinion, there are two three major flaws in this story, and several smaller ones.
* First, this is a time travel story. However, very little is made about the glaring differences that would certainly exist between a modern woman, and the early 1800's in Dodge city. Several people wander thro...more

This is my first cowboy book and while I love a sexy man in a stetson, this story really left me disappointed. Wade was charming and sexy as hell and Jess was feisty and funny but I felt the story line was really lacking. I feel like MacLean just really wanted to focus on the relationship between the two but then took them both forever to get it on. I was more interested in the time travel aspect than all the murder mystery stuff and they really didn't talk about the time travel at all. Then eve...more
I like time travel books, but the cover wow never judge a book by its cover. *smile* I still gave this one a shot because the plot sounded interesting. I was just disappointed in the ending.

I usually don't go for time travel novels, but this was a free read during their Twelve Days of Christmas give-away at All Romance eBooks. I have to admit that I liked it a lot. It took the heroine back to 1881 and there she met another person who had experienced the time travel phenomenon ten years earlier. He was at a place in his mind where he had accepted the inevitable and had chosen to remain in the Dodge City of the 19th century. But Jessica wasn't really prepared to give up so easily, ev...more
A time travel Western!!! Ke-wl. I’m guessing here, but I think this one is one of the the books in the new Amazon Line that Connie Brockway is part of and can I just say I am So In with this? I’m glad I have an i-pad with a Kindle app so I can read these books. A Western Time Travel isn’t a trope you see very often. Since I really like both, that’s why I was sold on this book right away.

Romantic Wild West adventure!
OMG, I just finished reading "Taken by the Cowboy" by Julianne MacLean!
This is the fifth book that I read of hers and I was not dissapointed!
It's a time travel romance from the future back in the Wild West of 1881.
She knew how to create charming characters, Truman Wade, a gorgeous sheriff of Dodge City, Jessica Delaney, a beautiful and gutsy woman! And the mysterious
Jake Spencer. The adventure begins, when Jessica has a car accident and suddenly

I am indifferent about this book. It was entertaining, but not compelling. I enjoy time travel and historical romance books. This one is about a sexy sheriff in Dodge City when it was the great Wild West. The challenge I had with this book is that things were too far-fetched or convenient for me. To be fair, for some people this is okay - it just didn't ring true enough for me. The suggested manner of time-travel was too fluky to be believable and you could see the ending early on, it was just a...more
Loved this book. It's been ages since I've read a time-travel that I enjoy. Like any time-travel, you have to avoid looking for gaps in logic because it's a TIME TRAVEL and will never make logical sense.
Not sure why it's called Taken By the Cowboy since the hero is a sheriff and former bounty hunter but he rides a horse so maybe that qualifies as 'cowboy' for romance novel purposes. Either way, he is fabulous with just the right amount of humor, sexiness, protectiveness and integrity. The heroin...more

Not a bad read altogether. Romance is not my thing. (I keep saying that as I read yet another steamy romance--hopefully it is just a phase I will grow out of.) I was intrigued by the notion of a modern woman going back to the 1880s and the sexual tension that would exist between a macho albeit victorian wild west lawman and a modern woman born and reared on this side of the sexual revolution.

MAN! I read this book in a day, obviously having a hard time putting it down! I wasn't sure at first what exactly to expect from this book. I certainly had no idea it was a time travel romance but that added such a uniqueness to the story!
Basically, a young woman is in a terrible car accident, and when she wakes up, finds herself in 1881. Shortly thereafter she's finds herself in an even more tight spot when she's brought in for questioning in a murder she didn't commit. Enter sheriff Truman!

I didnt know what to expect when I first started reading this book. Wow I got caught up in it and couldnt put it down. when Jessica Delaney on her way to see her parents and gets in a car wreck and wakes up in totally different time. she goes back to the 1800's where she runs into trouble with people gettin shot and it all looks like she is to blame. she meets the sheirff Truman Wade and he doesnt think she is involved in any of the killings. he goes out of his way to protect her from a gang and...more

Taken by the Cowboy was one of those Twitter feed posts that grabbed my attention. "Free - Taken by the Cowboy" I didn't even read the blurb. I just saw "free" and I saw "cowboy" and clicked to download. Even after I loaded the book onto my trusty Kindle, I still didn't read the book blurb. So I'm reading away and right at the very beginning of the book, I was captured. Emotionally sad but gripping beginning. Then t...more

Aside from a few minor discrepancies, I was really into this book. I loved the characters (although I had some trouble with Jessica's reaction to discovering she traveled back in time, it was a bit too blase), the premise was excellent, I was constantly wondering how these two people would ultimately achieve their HEA.
Plus I had a hard time putting the book down when I needed to do other things (that practically screams "Winner!" right there). But, the end of this book really ruined the story fo...more

When I started this book, I right away knew what was happening, but I kept reading. It seems I have read the first chapter in this book sometime in the past, but never finished it. Or if I did finish it I don’t remember anything but the first chapter. So I was once again interested in this book and started reading it again.

If I could give 2.5 stars I'd do it but only because the first few opening chapters and the two at the end really got my attention. Everything else inbetween was lacking, as if it was written by a new novelist who hadn't learned how to strengthen the novel's plot line. In short, it felt it was written by a beginner. To me, this was surprising since I'd read several books by Julianne MacLean before and never felt this way. Perhaps because the books I'd read before were in the The American Heiress...more
If the Kindle had a book cover, I probably wouldn't have ordered this book. As much as I enjoy naked men, one man in particular, I don't usually buy books with covers that objectify them. However, the book was free, and I like time travel alright. Westerns are neither here-nor-there for me. I can handle romance, if it isn't the entire plot. The cover was a clear indicator that this was a romance novel, and okay, so was the title, but I ignored that. I guess if I read romance/erotica it needs to...more
I rather dislike the titles they put on these books because this title really makes this book sound like one thing when it is anything but.
This was an entertaining story of time travel and love but I wouldn't say it was really great.
Truman (the sheriff) comes off as the gruff guy but, of course, underneath he's wounded and sensitive. But the thing that really got me was all the modern talk about killing and how he wants to hang up his six shooter and live normally. The thing is in the old west,...more

This was a better than average time-travel book with a likable hero and a healthy dose of adventure and romance. Detracting from the story was a lot of ridiculous preoccupation with the heroine's red pumps, that idiocy added nothing to the story except to disturb the flow of my reading while I wondered what that nonsense was about. What is it about chick lit that the authors have to feel obligated to throw in stupidities that make no sense just to turn the otherwise likable heroine into a vain b...more
Time travel to the old west romance. I admit not really my thing. I didn't know what I was getting into when I started this book, it was a free read on my kindle so I went for it trying for some thing new. I have to say if you like time travel romance, and the old west you might like this book, Its a "cute" story I guess. I just found it a bit off. I found myself rolling my eyes a lot, and the time travel scenario just didn't sit well with me, and the ending was a little sudden and just thrown i...more
This was a sweet romance story. Jessica has had a tough year and is going home to see her parents and decide whether she wants to move back closer to them. On her way, she is in a car accident and when she wakes up, she has gone back in time to the 1800's. She stirs up trouble immediately and is thrown in jail because people believe she murdered a criminal. The hot local sheriff knows that she is hiding secrets but has no idea what. Wild tales are invented about her past by the local newspaper a...more
I really enjoyed this read! This storyline was very entertaining and towards the end of it I was in tears but Jessica and Truman do get their HEA. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys a time traveled romance with a western twist.

This was a great story!
Jessica who was albeit not my favorite character in the beginning, became one of my favorites in the end. When looking at the cover, I did not expect the plot that this novel has. There were a lot of things in the plot that I wouldn't have expected! It was cool to be twisted and turned throughout the novel, without having it get too crazy and not be able to understand.

My review has to mirror one that I saw on Amazon. I really enjoyed this book and had a hard time putting it down. I loved the characters, the way the moved and the way they talked. The premise was excellent, I was constantly wondering how everyone would get a happy ending.

What a fun book! It touches on two of my favorite fantasies: time travel and reincarnation. Jessica Delaney had a car accident and wakes up on a stretch of silent, empty prairie. She walks a few miles to Dodge City and within an hour finds herself in a jail cell and discovers the year is 1881. Her adventures in 1881 include being called a dead-eye shot, being kidnapped by outlaws, meeting a fellow time traveler, spending the night in a brothel, and falling in love with the town sheriff, Truman W...more
