Curses! A F**ked Up Fairytale (F***ed-Up Fairytale #1)
by
J.A. Kazimer (Goodreads Author)
Definitely "not" for baby's bedtime reading, this hilarious and irreverent take on classic fairy tales--think "Shrek" for grown-ups--combines humor, mystery, and characters only a fairy godmother could love.

Among other things, this book is aptly titled, because let’s face it (and get this out of the way right now): this isn’t your mother’s fairy tale. Is that a bad thing? Hell no. Sure, the antics are a bit outrageous at times, but one definition of good comedy is that it resides in the extremes, and there are plenty of extremes to be had. I could give you a play-by-play, but you should enjoy it for yourself the first time, without me spoiling most of the fun for you. And there is fun to be had if,...more

It's rare that I'll actually give up on a book altogether, though it's not unusual for me to let one languish unread for a while (I tend to be reading multiple books at the same time anyway) in order to give it a fresh chance later. But I couldn't finish this one and had absolutely no desire to give it any additional chances.

You don't need me to tell you that Curses isn't your ordinary fairy tale re-telling. The title does a fine job of that all on its own. No, this is a fresh story with just enough borrowed from the Grimm brothers to help us keep our footing. RJ is a villain in trouble. The union has decided he's going through an emotional crisis and has stripped him of all his villainous powers. No matter how hard he tries, everything he does turns out good. He can't help but help people. Kazimer teases us along t...more
RJ is a villain who has been made villainously impotent by the union, and he's not happy about it. After being mistaken for a famous detective (he was squatting in their apartment after killing the former occupant and sticking them in the chimney after all, so honest mistake) RJ finds himself in the neighboring kingdom looking for a princess killer while trying to get into the pants of his princess employer. There are a several curses and a few death threats standing in his way to happily ever a...more

Quick & Dirty: A raunchy mix of childhood fairy tales with very adult language and content.

You can tell by the title this isn’t your average fairy tale. Curses tells the twisted tale of RJ, a disgraced villain forced into doing good when the villain’s union puts him on leave. He’s a bad boy who can’t say no, especially to Asia, the not-so-ugly stepsister to Cinderella.
Cinderella’s been whacked by a devious bluebird and the crosstown Fairy-Second Street bus. Asia wants to know whodunit, and RJ might want to help her even if he wasn’t cursed.

Okay, think of the books that you quote. Not books of literature, but the ones where you grab nearby passers-by and say, "Wait, wait, listen to this!" and then read something sly and witty and look at them expectantly. Now, because these people are most likely thinking about a) getting away from you or b) sex, they're usually not impressed. However, once in a rare while, you run into someone who CAN QUOTE T...more

The book was not NEARLY as entertaining as the description made it sound. I went into it expecting a humorous book that would make me laugh out loud with references and satire. Instead I had a couple of "ha, cute" moments and that was about it.
The story itself was an interesting take on the "twisted fairy-tale", emphasis on the "twisted". It is told from the viewpoint of RJ, a fairy-tale villain who has had his villain privileges revoked. RJ is cursed to only do "nice" things because the Villai...more

RJ is no hero, in fact he is quite literally a card carrying villain. Until recently he was constantly plotting evil deeds and the downfall of young maidens but now a horrifying curse has shattered his dastardly life. Now, no matter what, RJ has to be nice. So when Cinderella is murdered and her not-so-ugly sister Asia calls on RJ for help he has little choice. Soon RJ finds himself in the kingdom of Maldetto trying to discover who (besides himself) would want a beloved princess dead.

How many times can an author write the word 'villian' before it becomes an annoying noise? How many times can a main character black out before we should start worrying about brain damage?
J.A. Kazimer tried so very hard to be witty and raunchy, but I found myself rolling my eyes any time RJ and Asia were alone. Hilarious! The fairy tale theme is carried throughout the book, and it is folded, spindled, bent and mutilated. To hilarious effect.

I went into this book with an open mind. Here is the premise... think Shrek for adults with romance and mystery thrown in. And it is a funny ride.
RJ is a Villian. But the union has put him on temporary leave. He is forced to do good instead of evil. As a result, when Asia pops up (literally) in his apartment thinking he is Inspector Holmes of Fairy Yard, and asks him to investigate the death of her sister Cinderella and it is a request he (literally) can't refuse. When it comes to this book I really don’t know what to say. It started off a little rocky but I am happy that I hung with it. This book is funny taking and putting a twist on all of your childhood fairy tales in a way you didn’t think possible. Book Review: Curses! A F**ked-Up Fairy Tale@ai-Books
I actually bought this book because I was attracted to the title and synopsis. The instant I read the title, ‘Curses! A F**ked-Up Fairy Tale’ I knew that it’s not going to be an ordinary fairy tale.
This book is a fairytale laced with mystery, romance and lots of humor. It was demented and absolutely hilarious (lots of laugh out loud moment)! How could I ever resist such book? I have to say that I certainly did not regret from reading this book.

This has been one of the best stories that I have read in a long time. If you like your fairytales with butterflies and charming princes this story is not for you. Welcome to the dark side of fairytales!

The first half of the book started so well. It was entertaining and well written. The last half was like an exercise in "how much can we do to one hero before an improbable ending is written". Like the author lost focus and wasn't sure what to do with 100 pages before ending the book. It's too bad too. Kazimer is imaginative and you never know what she's going to write next (for the good and bad). I had high hopes for this upcoming series but it was a bit too explicit for me and didn't deliver i...more
Things aren't going so well for private investigator/villain RJ. Thanks to his crazy ex-wife, he's on probation from the Villain's Union. This means he can't be mean, cruel, vicious, or evil--at all. She hires RJ to find the killer, and due to his can't-be-evil curse, he is forced to say yes. When he begins to investigate, he finds himself gettin...more

My Thoughts:
In this story, the main character RJ has been put on leave by the evil Villain Union and cursed to “do good”. Which as you can guess, for a villain, is torture. When Asia, Cinderella’s stepsister, shows up and mistakes RJ for the famous inspector Sherlock; his curse renders him unable to deny her request for help. She is there seeking the famous inspector to help her find Cinderella’s murderer. All hilariousness ensues.
I loved the plot, ther

RJ comes home to find a not-so-ugly-stepsister sitting in his chair, munching on his food. She has mistaken RJ for someone else, and asks him to help her uncover who killed Cinderella. RJ has no choice but to help. He is a villain, but the union took his card, and he cannot do anything villainous, but he isn’t the only one with a curse. He goes with Asia, the not-so-ugly-princess to her father’s kingdom, and to find out who killed Cinderella.

RJ is a fairy tale villain. Except the Union has cursed him for a screw up and now everything he does is not villainous at all. Oh, no. Everything he does, no matter how villainous he tries to be, turns out to be nice. It’s enough to make a bad villain cry.
RJ has been cursed for six days and it’s driving him crazy. He wants to get back to villainy, but the Union thinks he needs a little more time, maybe even a vacation. Then he comes home to find a pretty, sexy and ravenous woman in his favorit...more

OMG, this book was PHENOMENAL. I have never laughed so much or so hard in my life. You have not read a fairytale until you have read it done by J.A. Kazimer. She takes fairytales to a whole new level. I am now a die hard fan of Ms. Kazimer. Any F**cked Up Fairytale she wants to tell I will so be there to read it.

the characters in this novel include a villain who is not so villainous, a princess who isn't so perfect, a prince whose armor isn't so nice and shiny, and a queen and king who literally love each other to death. The plot of this story left me laughing at all of the innuendos and cliches that when put together didn't seem so cliche after all. It is a wittingly hilarious novel about how a villain goes about getting a princess when everyone and everything surrounding them is cursed.
