A very enlightening account of the U.S. Army's activities to curtail native American attacks against white settlers in the 19th century - the Indian Wars.
Although an account of military actions, this book is not what one might expect in a military journal.
Most enjoyable aspects:
- broad view of campaigns of the southwest and the north.
- life of the cavalry, esp. coping with summers in Arizona and winters in Nebraska and the Dakotas.
