I didn't think that either of these were among the best of the Spider novels. EMPEROR OF THE YELLOW DEATH was a pretty good story but was rather badly dated; it was creaky with anti-Oriental prejudice. SLAVES OF THE BURNING BLADE read like it was written in a great rush... like maybe the manuscript was due on Monday morning but it wasn't started until late Friday night, and so the author decided to throw a whole lot of characters together and just see what would happen.
