So Carlotta Wren's life hasn't turned out as she'd planned. She didn't plan for her parents to skip bail for a white-collar crime, leaving her to raise her brother. She didn't plan on having the silver spoon ripped from her mouth and forgoing college to work retail. She didn't plan on her blue-blood fiancé dumping her. And she didn't plan on still being single ten years la...more

The weirdest thing happened when I got to the end of this book - I discovered "Questions for Discussion. As if this was some deep book that book clubs would be ordering by the dozen. Sometimes reading ebooks leads to unexpected surprises. But for some odd reason, none of the questions asked me to list the reasons why Carlotta and Wesley are TSTL (too stupid to live). But they are numerous. Too numerous to list here. I'll do my best to summarize.

Everyone makes mistakes, but Carlotta and her brot...more

This book. Oh, this book. I started reading it because Stephanie Bond was a suggestion for readers who enjoyed Jennifer Crusie, one of my favorite contemporary romance authors. After finishing the first book in a three book pack, I'm debating if I even want to continue reading.

I found it hard to connect with the main character,Carlotta Wren, who was apparently created as a secondary character in a previous novel, Party Crashers. She is obsessed with fashion and even as a 29 year old, selling co...more

I've never read Bond before, but I like light mysteries. This is certainly light. It is written from the perspective of a retail employee with designer taste. Carlotta and her brother were abandoned by their parents, who got in trouble financially and ran away. The ensuing mystery is a little too romantic for my taste, and I do enjoy a little spice in my mysteries. However, Carlotta has possibly three love interests. Two for sure.

In addition to solving mysteries, there is the question of her ga...more

When I working at the bookstore, I kept seeing these books. They were in the Body Movers series, and they had clever titles. The cover copy--as well as funny blurbs from the author's family members--drew my eye. However, we never had book one in stock, and I wasn't interested enough to actually order the book.

This weekend, I found books one and two at my local library. I happily checked them out, eager to discover the wonders within the covers. I shouldn't have bothered.

I've rarely read such a s...more

Carlotta is barely keeping it together. Ten years ago her parents were under indictment for embezzlement when they skipped town, leaving 18 year old Carlotta to raise her nine year old geeky brother Wesley. Her fiance dumped her and married someone else in her former social class.

Now she works on commission at Neiman Marcus, serving her former fiance's rich bitch of a wife, and trying to keep her brother safe from loan sharks. Wesley is arrested for hacking and her tenuous finances become more s...more

First off, these are NOT like the Janet Evanovich Stephanie Plum novels. Plum is more hardcore than this woman, whom I don't even think took a swing at a guy. Plum is also a bounty hunter, and Carlotta sells clothing. Plum has a reason to investigate things, whereas this woman? Hardly. If you want a series with more meat on its bone, go with Plum. Want something fluffy and light that you can read while multitasking? Here ya go.

Not that this series is boring; it's just...there. You can read it an...more

Miss Bond, you and I are going to have a long relationship - well at least as long as the Body Movers continues!

Carlotta Wren and her then nine-year old brother were abandoned by their parents after her father was accused of embezzling funds from his clients and jumped bail with their mother. Carlotta's fiance broke off their engagement and any hopes for college were destroyed since Carlotta was now her brothers keeper.

Ten years pass. One night at a party, Carlotta runs into her ex-fiance, Peter...more

Body Movers was a fantastic read. Carlotta and her brother Wesley Wren are abandoned by their parents 10 years earlier, because her father did not want to go to jail for embezzlement! Carlotta is now in her early 30's and working at Neiman Marcus as a personal shopper for the rich and spoiled! Wesley is 19 years old and always getting into some kind of trouble. This time he gets arrested for hacking in the City Hall computers, presumably to fix some traffic tickets for his friend. He is placed o...more

I really liked this new series I found through goodreads recomendations.

I haven't placed my bets on who she ends up with. I can't wait to get my hands on the next one

Whats a girl to do when life isn't just not fair but has a sick sense of humor.

Carlotta has raised her brother Wesley after her parents went on the lam 10 years ago. In the course of the last couple of weeks life just really goes down the crapper

Credit Card Debit (her fault)
Loan Sharks after them (Wes's Fault)
Her parents dissapearin...more

An okay mystery. Not nearly as engaging as the Stephanie Plum series, but entertaining none the less. I have read the whole series (up to book 6 -- which is the last one she has out as of June 2009). I enjoyed the mysteries and the "romance" between Carlotta and the guys. Wes makes me crazy since he can't seem to make a decent decision to save his life. But other than a few minor irritating points (will she walk away from Peter already ... he's as dull as dirt!), I will continue the series to se...more

At first I thought this was a complete rip-off of the Stephanie Plum/Janet Evanovich novels... I still think it has borrowed a lot from them in terms of the ongoing love triangle, the clumsy woman attracted to danger and who danger is attracted to, and the idea of a woman getting over her head involved in criminal matters on the law enforcement/crime scene side.

I do love the Stephanie Plum novels, though, and can appreciate Carlotta's story separately. It's still a decent story and I'm hoping t...more

No one imagines that at 18 years old that they will be given the responsibility for their 9 year old brother. Carlotta Wren and her brother Wesley have made due since their parents fled the state and went into hiding after criminal charges were brought against their father. Now 10 years later Wesley is trying to find his parents and Carlotta is trying to keep Wesley alive. The two different loan sharks that are after Wesley just add to the problems he has with the city of Atlanta. Carlotta final...more

This is a GREAT series but honestly DO NOT start reading this series if you are one of those people who hates to be left hanging. The last published book in this series was released back in 2009 thats #6 in the series and #7 & #8 are being "held hostage" until the tv series is "picked up" and they want to release the books at the same time the tv series comes out. But noone has picked up the tv series and its been over a year since they announced that the book was to be turned into a tv seri...more

Just discovered this author, and I am in love with her Body Movers series! Carlotta Wren, is the crazy heroine who is broke, the daughter of a fugitive father accused of embezzlement--which lead to the breakup of Carlotta's engagement and the whole being broke bit. Her parents left her to finish raising her brilliant but irresponsible little brother who has a habit of finding trouble. When her brother gets a job with the coroner's office, moving dead bodies, Carlotta ends up becoming involved in...more

This was a very weak book. It was also boring because it incited no emotions (besides anger and frustration). The plot was weak, the storyline was executed poorly, the dialogue was average but not superb, and the chemistry between Carlotta and Peter was strong, but invoked no emotion so to speak. One of the things I don't like when reading a book is that it is not absorbing; I can put it down anytime and not feel any need to pick it up and finish where I left off. It was like that with Body Move...more

I think I, like most people on these reviews is comparing these books to Stephanie Plum and its just not the same. I enjoyed the book and I think it helped that the last few books I read were not Stephanie Plum and therefore this helped me separate myself from comparing to much. I liked the charactors and I ejoyed the plot but what bothered me most is the ending. It almost felt like she was going one way throughout the entire book then decided that the person she originally thought of as the kil...more

Stop!! Stop!!. I can hear all my friends yelling already. Eric, why are you reading this crap? (Well, actually, I'm listening to it.) Hey, it's like watching TV. I started this series because it was recommended to those who like the Stephanie Plum series, and I have to admit Grandma can be hysterically funny. There are some resemblances, and the scene in the funeral home is a stitch, especially Carlotta's friend Hannah, who quite loudly starts making remarks about the funeral home director, "col...more

Carlotta Wren, amateur detective, is embroiled in a murder investigation. Angela Ashford, married to Carlotta's ex-boyfriend, Peter, (from 10 years ago) has been murdered. Carlotta feels that Peter is innocent and begins an investigation since she believes that the police aren't investigating properly.

Carlotta's brother, Wesley is having troubles with the law (computer hacking) and he's in deep with loan sharks (gambling). So Carlotta's got a lot on her plate not to mention the fact that her par...more

I feel like I should have liked this one better than I did, but there were somethings that bugged me about it. I hated that Carlotta was whining about the past, that she was still pinning for Peter, he didn't seem like a prize to me. I also hated that she kept bailing out Wesley, at 19 he was old enough to pay for the consequences of his own actions. Had she done that previously maybe he would be in such a deep hole.

I wasn't sure why all the men were attracted to Carlotta. Sure she was nice, bu...more

Enjoyable read. This is the first book in the aptly titled "Body Movers" series. Kinda reminds me of the "Stephanie Plum" series by Janet Evanovich -- an abundance of likable characters in train-wreck situations. Unlike "SP", however, it's not nearly as funny. No Lula-, Grandma Mazur-, Sally Sweet-type characters (though sidekick/BFF Hannah has definite possibilities), however "BM" out-triangles the Stephanie/Morelli/Ranger relationship with a quadrangle between Carlotta, her ex-fiance, her brot...more

I really enjoyed this book. Carlotta has gone from riches to rags when she discovers that her father is charged with embezzling major funds from the accounting firm where he works. When mom and dad take a hike and go into hiding, Carlotta is left to fend for herself and her younger brother Wesley. To make matters worse, she was engaged to Paul Ashford. When all of this becomes public, Paul's parents persuade him to cancel the engagement. Over the years Paul and Carlotta both continue to love eac...more

What an hilarious, light, beach read. It is similar to the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich. The main character works at Neiman's at Lenox Mall in Atlanta and I enjoyed all the references to areas I know well. The mystery and fast action make it a page turner and Carlotta always seems to be in the middle of something. This is just a fun read to take a break from all the serious reading. AS one book ends it jumps right into the next book. I ended up reading the 6 books so far in the serie...more

I listened to this on my IPOD and the loved it. It was a good mystery. It has a Janet Evanovich feel to it. I am delighted to have discovered this series as I can go through another set. The main character is funny and responsible but fallible, her brother is a gambler and in all kinds of trouble that links to her, yet she constantly tries to save him. She falls for the wrong guy, kind of, if she had time to fall. She works at a clothing store and feels she could have done better, but had to rai...more

I almost gave up on this book after learning that Carlotta and her brother, Wesley, were ethics impaired and the story was moving really slow, but, I stayed with it. The pace started picking and I think i'll finish it. Carlotta and Wesley were abondoned by their parents 10 years ago when they skip on charges of larceny and fraud. Carlotta's fiance, Peter, dumped her and Wesley developed a gambling and computer hacking problem. With thugs on them to be paid and Wesley on probation for hacking, th...more

This was a fun read. Fast paced and funny overall. I liked the characters and the plot - lots happening.

Only the ending didn't work for me. I like it when the main protag solves the puzzle and she was doing so good, but.... Also she didn't really change over the course of the story - she had a number of insecurities and weaknesses and I'd hoped by the end she'd grow. However, there is a second book (first one ends with a bit of a cliff hanger) so perhaps the author is waiting to show her charact...more

Closer to 2.5 stars.

It was an okay mystery, but I found myself wanting to smack Carlotta for putting up with her brother and for having ridiculously expensive clothes when she can barely pay her mortgage.

Warning: If you read this one thinking the main character will have a real romance by the end, you'll be disappointed. The main mystery of the book is solved, but Carlotta hasn't made any headway in choosing among the three guys who interest her/are interested in her.

I am reading book two to see...more

OK. I've been putting this off for a bit now. First I couldn't find the first book in the series. Then I couldn't order it as it was out of stock. Finally I got the book. Unfortunately, the enthusiasm had waned.
It wasn't until this was picked for me for the December Pick-It-For-Me-Challenge that I finally picked it up again. Why did I wait so long?

I really enjoyed this. I liked the characters. OK, I really liked Carlotta Wren. I think the brother hasn't made a good decision ever. I like her thr...more

The book started very slow for me and seemed to take a while to ramp up. I had really high hopes for this book so maybe this was why it didn't seem to hit the mark. I was still able to read it, but put it down several times to do other things which for me is a measure that I wasn't fully captured. The last 50 odds pages though was where it finally heated up and by the end of it i can say it was enjoyable read but not a page turner. I have the other 4 books and with the way book 1 was left, it le...more

Just a wannabe Stephanie Plum series, I really doubt I will be going on to read the rest. There is not much that is intriguing in the novel which makes you want to read it. The characters are not developed enough for the audience to love them or want to continue with the story to find out what happens to them (at least for me).

I certainly did not have any “light laugh” like the book states that audience will experience. I guess I can summon the book as alright, not the best thing that I have re...more

I read books 1 & 2 of this series and was shocked myself that I liked the books. This is not a spooky or serious read. They are fun, light hearted, quick, and engaging in my humble opinion.

I have sought out the rest of the series to read. The only negative is the detailed sex scenes are not for me, but I know many readers like this aspect of the books. You don't miss anything in the story if you skip a few paragraphs of the sex scenes, if you are like me.

Overall a good cozy mysteries and ch...more
