Ah, Roderick Hunt, what a vital part of my growing up you were.

I’m fairly certain it’s a British rite of passage to read a Roderick Hunt book. They are the books you have to read at school, the ones that will move you towards the entirety of the literary world.

And boy, were they ever fun!

It doesn’t matter how old I get, I’m still more than capable of recalling details from his stories.

They certainly left a lasting impression!

When the late Emperor Bokassa judges a pet show, there's disappointment for young Janet Street-Porter's yappy dog and for wee Finley Quaye whose bear fails to impress. Congratulations are due to a teenage Little and Large, however, whose bald Bedlington terrier-thing wins a first prize presented by Annie Sugden off 'Emmerdale Farm'. The devastated children of Anneka Rice pretend that their bright-eyed mongrel has won anyway and give it a wine glass.
