True Blue displays a rural girl's life and her close relationship with her dog, Blue. The girl has to face the danger of poachers hunting on her family's land while going out to look for Blue who strangely ran away. The book shows the closeness of neighbors and family dynamics of a family who lives in a rural area. The words are big and well spaced with nice illustrations for those students beginning chapter books.

True Blue is a great book about a girl and her missing dog. When she goes to look for Blue, he is taking care of another dog who has been shot. The girl, blue, and Molasses make their way back home where they are all taken care of. This is a great book for readers who have outgrown picture books but aren't quite ready for chapter books. This book is longer with small chapters, but still has some pictures. Overall a great story!

This book is in an in-between phase for those readers not ready to fully exit the realm of picture books, and also not quite ready for full-on chapter books. Cute story about a girl finding her missing dog, an making a friend along the way. Would definitely read in a primary classroom.
Emily Rosbottom
Allows students to see a loyal friendship, even if it is between two dogs. Creates a suspenseful situation that ends on a happy note. Great pictures to accompany the text.
