Jamie Rose (Goodreads Author)
Why it really does take two to tango . . .
At forty-five, Jamie Rose was an independent, take-charge woman whose career as an actress was going nicely, with frequent roles on hit television shows and in films. Yet there was one area of her life that wasn't working: her love life. She'd been living with her boyfriend for five years, and although she was ready to get married,...more

My wife and I took 12 weeks of tango lessons before a trip to Buenos Aires. My impression of a "simple" dance that I had seen in movies all my life was quickly altered forever as I got a glimpse into the elaborate and sensual world of tango. In reading Jamie's book I learned a lot about the roles of leader and follower, and how powerful a good follower can be. Jamie, as a very hands-on, can-do, take-charge kind of woman, learned how to "follow," which was initially a hard thing for her to do. Bu...more
Full disclosure: Author Jamie Rose is my cousin and I will not pretend to be unbiased--she probably gets an extra star due to our common bloodline.
That being said, I'm not passionate about dancing nor am I a female needing relationship advice, yet I zoomed through this book and enjoyed the ride. This gal can write.
There are great lessons here in gratitude, patience, and listening for either gender in any relationship. All the while, Rose cleverly shows how these lessons were learned on the dance...more

Fun to read especially if you're an Argentine tango or ballroom dancer. Insights on the floor and in real life. Good book to help you grow.
If you're not a reader of many self-growth and metaphysical books with suggestions at the end of a chapter designed to help you be more aware, make this book your first one!

A book that combines two things that interest me, dancing and relationship advice. As a dancer for most of my childhood and teen years, I love dancing more than most things. I may admit to watching Dancing with the Stars and just wishing that I was a former star, so I could grace that stage with the costumes and dance combinations. So when I heard about a book that uses dance as a platform to convey relationship advice, I was more than intrigued.

The Joy of Letting Go of the Lead - On the Dance Floor and Off.... Yep, that's the "subtitle" of this book. And something the modern day woman needs a bit of guidance with...
This book tells us, basically, that the modern day woman has become so adamant about being independent and strong and not dependent on men that we have become anti man and that we no longer LISTEN to them at all. And sometimes, well, we need to let men be men.

I've often said that I feel books have saved my life. They've been my sanctuary since I first learned to read. In September 2011 my book, Shut Up & Dance!, was published by Tarcher/Penguin. Having a book out in the world is the most staggeringly wonderful thing that has ever happened to me. And yes, it really feels like it "happened to me". I wrote it; I put in the hard work, but the realizati...more
