An eclectic eccentric look at the art of yodeling and vignettes about its celebrated stars. I used a couple of entries for memory care story hour and was surprised people knew who they were and could name titles and sing the tunes. There is another how-to yodel book that is of more help because it has a cd and vocalizing exercises ("How to Yodel the cowboy way"), which gave me enough background to passibly sing some songs with the group at story hour, but this title was just fun to page through ...more

Shelves: history, art, non-fiction
When I just picked up the book I had the bemused grin many people have that the author was talking about in the introduction. But with the reading it disappeared and I now have a lot of appreciation and respect for this music type. It really has a very rich history and spread all over the world which makes it so special.

Bart Platenga created the first yodel book. He really made a big study on yodeling going through pretty much all of the continents. I really liked the part of each chapter where

I wanted to like it, but it was just too much information thrown together and I found myself skimming most of the book by the time I reached the third chapter. Good reference, but not a good read.
