Loved this book. I am not sure why it is not more famous.
The part in the middle where they write their dream books almost made me want to cry it was so bittersweet.
I can totally understand the children's feelings about the end of the world! In February, an asteroid whizzed right by the earth and made me as scared as they were! LOL
Montgomery tries to convince the reader that Sarah Stanley (the Story Girl) is the most interesting person in the book, but I thought it was definitely Peter. Felicity...more

I think " The Story of a girl" was a pretty good book. A lot of drama and romance throughout the book. Unless your a guy that likes girl talk this wouldnt be a book for you. Girls if you like some good drama and gossip you'll love this book. I think this book could relate to some teenagers in their life.
A couple things i liked about this book was how they put quite a bit forshadowing in there and kinda layed everything out on the table. I like some good drama in a book and some arguments betwe...more

Frankly, the only reason I wanted to read the book was because of the "Avonlea" series on TV. I was obsessed with that series and I think I cried when it ended. Childhood never looked so idyllic and magical as it did on the show -- the endearing innocence, the clumsy chaos and petty squabbles, the boundless imagination heightened by the panoramic, postcard quality landscape of PEI. It reminded me so much of my own childhood, enjoying the summer with my cousins, climbing hills and trees, explorin...more

Sorry, just can’t help it.

Setelah membaca serial Anne -terutama 3 buku pertamanya Anne of Green Gables, Anne of Avonlea dan Anne of the Island, kisah Story Girl ini jadi sedikit hambar.
I have very fond memories of the Anne of Green Gables series, which I first read many many years ago. So when my sister and I went to a library book sale and I saw this book on the “Old Books” table, I snatched it up, even though I'd not heard of it before. And it really is an old book - an old cloth bound hardback, published in 1911. (Appropos of nothing, I LOVE old books, and filled my entire cart with books from that table. Yes, I take a cart to the big library sale.)Then my sister saw it in...more

I was surprised to discover that the narrator of The Story Girl is a boy. I found this a little confusing at first, since his name is Beverley. I know several females named Beverley, but not a single male. Was that a common male name back then? I'm sure you see why I was confused at first, though. The strange thing about Bev's narration is that he doesn't refer to himself very often, or make himself the center of attention. He keeps the story's focus on his friends and relatives. I would be read...more
Delightful yarn of a boy and his brother who travel for a summer to a family farm and encounter a host of relations and their neighbors, particularly one known as The Story Girl.

Ah, betapa saya menyenangi karya L.M . Montgomery. Membaca buku karangan beliau, senantiasa mengingatkan saya akan betapa menyenangkannya masa jaman anak-anak dulu. Ceria, senantiasa bergembira ria, piknik di kebun belakang rumah.

The Story Girl is narrated by Beverly King recalling a summer spent in Prince Edward Island with his brother Felix staying with their aunt and uncle on the old family farm. In between chores and school they spend their time playing with their cousins Dan, Felicity, and Cecily King and Sara Stanley, as well as the hired boy Peter Craig and neighbor girl Sara Ray. Montgomery paints vivid pictures of each adolescent from the beautiful, but vain Felicity, to the ever sweet and lovable Cecily, to Pet...more
I really love L.M. Montgomery Here books just make you think of how the "olden" days had to be yet they still are fairly easy to see things from today's life. This book is about a family of Cousins who are all living together (or between to farms) for a while and all their adventures they go through. You here a lot from one girl who really loves to tell stories and can mezmerize all young and old as she tells her stories. I love how each child has their own strength and weaknesses and you can a...more

If you liked Anne of Green Gables or Emily of New Moon, you should like this story, because the main character, Sara (Story Girl) has a big imagination and great personality. The story is not narrated from her POV though, it is narrated by her cousin Beverley King, and happens through the span of a summer as Beverley and his brother Felix go to live with their cousins while their dad goes to South America for his job (Mom is dead)

This was a sweet story about a young girl who has a talent for telling stories. Some of the escapades were genuinely hilarious, but then again, Montgomery managed to mix in some bad theology, which was meant to be humorous, but which I found irreverent. Also, she had the children indulge in a few superstitious beliefs which coincidents made appear correct, (Peg Bowen's witchery, etc.). One part I did really like, though was when it was stated that 'Dan stayed home because he wanted to finish his...more
This one was just ok. Nothing special about it. Some points were downright annoying and I wondered why I even kept reading it. It has no real plot so there is nothing to look forward to to keep you reading. It's basically the story of some boys who go and stay with their cousins for the summer and all the fun things the kids do together. There was a prevailing theme of religious confusion through the book and that really bothered me. There was a couple chapters where the kids read in the newspap...more
Very cute! The TV show "Avonlea" was based on this book, so it was fun to read about the characters I loved from the show: Sara Stanley, Felicity, Felix Cecily, etc... My only qualm was that the TV show changed a few characters, deleted some characters from the book, and even added some characters (like Aunt Hettie), so while I was reading I kept think "Well, that's not how it is supposed to be!" I loved the TV show so much, so I wished it was completely the same in the book. That is just me tho...more
I thought I'd read this before, but I guess I hadn't. Excellent writing and characterization by Montgomery, but slightly unsatisfying because it's lacking an overall story arc. It's really just a series of episodes. Montgomery does this somewhat in the Anne books, but I think she has stronger overall plots in the Anne books -- for instance, Anne of Green Gables is fairly episodic, but it does have Anne achieve the goal of graduating from Queens and winning a scholarship, and it does finally brin...more

I had read the entire “Anne of Green Gables” series and the “Emily of New Moon” books but I hadn’t read any of her other books. I decided to pick it up. Once I got it home I simply couldn’t put it down. It was such a great story I forgot what a descriptive author she was. She painted the most beautiful picture of the orchard in which the children played. It made me long for my childhood summers spend at Nannie and Granddad’s on the Gulf Shore of Nova Scotia. It took me two days to read the book;...more

I enjoyed my first read of this book by L.M. Montgomery, but I found it to be more scattered than some of her series books (Anne and Emily). I appreciated the insertion of a less than idyllic sibling relationship, but the narrator seemed to have hardly any personality at all, and I disliked the overblown looking-back-into-the-past style as compared to the mostly present-tense third person narration of the Montgomery books I know and love. Unsurprisingly, I'm also left wanting to know "what happe...more

“There is such a place as fairyland - but only children can find the way to it. And they do not know that it is fairyland until they have grown so old that they forget the way. One bitter day, when they seek it and cannot find it, they realize what they have lost; and that is the tragedy of life. On that day the gates of Eden are shut behind them and the age of gold is over. Henceforth they must dwell in the common light of common day. Only a few, who remain children at heart, can ever find that fair, lost path again; and blessed are they above mortals. They, and only they, can bring us tidings from that dear country where we once sojourned and from which we must evermore be exiles. The world calls them its singers and poets and artists and story-tellers; but they are just people who have never forgotten the way to fairyland.”
