ABSOLUTELY AMAZING story!!

This story is the second installment in "The FBI Psychics" series. In the first book we are introduced to a 'special' team of Agents who are 'gifted' with finding 'the lost' and helping the dead find rest.

It is in the first book that we are introduced the Special Agent Taylor Jones who is the hard-ass, cool as a cucumber Agent who leads this special team. He also has the gift of identifying those who have the 'psychic' gifts He requires for this elite team.

Shiloh Walker has the perfect touch when it comes to suspense with paranormal elements.
I've always enjoyed her stories, but THE MISSING turned me into a total fangirl for life, and THE DEPARTED just proves that this author knows what she's doing. Romance, intrigue, and paranormal elements are perfectly balanced in this fast-paced suspense featuring FBI guy Taylor Jones and psychic Desiree Lincoln. It's a must-not-miss for anyone who enjoys edge of the seat storytelling.

Favorite Quote: “So basically you’re just attracted to me because I’m boring?”

Taylor Jones is having trouble dealing with the fact that he is irrevocably in love with a fellow agent, Desiree Lincoln. He and Dez share one beautiful night of passion that had Dez hoping for a future with Taylor, but issues from his past make that impossible. When a mission results in her almost dying, Taylor hurts her more by pushing her away, citing that work and personal relationships don’t mix. Dez has had enoug...more

Pleasantly surprised from what I expected. I was thinking some trashy, smutty romance with a little paranormal thrown in, and a dash of plot to loosely hold the sex scenes together. I was pleasantly surprised to find it was so much more. There are maybe three sex scenes, and all are in context of the particular plot and advancement of the characters' relationship arc. The sex is a small part of the large plot which is the main focus of this book. The characters have depth and history, which I lo...more

Parallel lives that intersect and a multi-layered suspense are the driving forces behind Shiloh Walker’s latest release The Departed. With brooding and haunting undertones this combination romance, suspense, mystery and paranormal is a slow moving freight train full of emotions and dynamics. The dialogue and prose will immediately draw you in as the author deftly unveils each nuance of the characters and the plot, and in the best tradition of both romance and mystery each piece of the puzzle is...more

The Departed by Shiloh Walker
Paranormal Romance –Jan. 3rd, 2012
4 stars

The Departed is a strong new contemporary paranormal which is the second in a series about paranormal investigators who work for the government. This first book in the series was called The Missing. It is not necessary to have read Missing to enjoy this well-written story.

Agent Taylor Jones works for the FBI and has the unique ability to gather those with very special talents to work with him. Although he knows it is wrong, he...more

This is the second book in Shiloh Walker’s FBI Psychics series and I’m hooked. Along with her characters, it’s Ms. Walker’s ability to make the reader feel emotion that draws me back to her books time after time. Add in the paranormal element, and these books are awesome.

Taylor Jones and Desiree Lincoln work together in a special branch of the FBI. He’s her boss. They’re attracted to one another, but they’ve kept that attraction under control for quite a while now. Dez is able to communicate wit...more

The Departed by Shiloh Walker
Grade: A

“She might not be a typical agent and she might not be the badass some of them were, but she’d make it through the same training they had, and she still kept in pretty decent shape. The day she couldn’t handle herself against a child-molesting, motherfucking pervert was the day she’d put down her gun and take up knitting.”

Twenty-five years ago Taylor Jones’ little sister Anna disappeared in the tiny town of French Lick, Indiana. Taylor’s family fell apart and...more

My Rating: 4.5 stars: Loved it - enthusiastically recommend(A)

When Dez Lincoln is seriously injured while saving a child from a horrible predator, her boss, Taylor Jones cannot get the gruesome images out of his mind. Although he is as cold as they come, inside Taylor is a wreck - trying to control a situation that is beyond his reach. The fear of losing Dez pushes Taylor to act out his inner-most desires and makes Dez’s fantasies come true. Until the next day... When Taylor does the unthinkable...more

The Departed by Shiloh Walker is apparently the book that she never thought she would write. However, questions from fans of book 1 which happens to be The Missing finally managed to convince her to dig deeper to find the story that Taylor obviously had to tell. And what a story it was that woke me up last night half way through my midnight slumber and refused to let me succumb until I had read enough to satisfy my curiosity about a story that is filled with dark elements which sometimes tended...more

Memorable Scenes:
- the necklace talisman thing > loved it as it showed a vulnerable Taylor
- Taylor groveling when he wants Dez back and realizes he needs to make the first move > loved this scene, from the moment they arrive at where Dez is staying till the making love part the next day it was the embodiment of why I love the romance part of this book the most
- the climax and unravelng of the suspense > blew away the reservations I had in regards to the plot

Desiree 'Dez' Lincoln is an...more

Well - as predicted Shiloh Walker made me actually care for a character that I really didn't like to much prior to getting his full story! In my opinion, that is a GREAT author!!

So, honestly, Taylor seemed like a total a*hole in The Missing. Ok, so maybe not every second of the day, because you could tell that he DID care about people every once in a while when he let his shield down, but overall he seemed like a prick. But like many other emotionally damaged heroes, when you find out WHY he is...more

Dez Lincoln sees and hears dead people. She uses her gift to save lives and to rescue people, especially children who are in danger. But after being injured in the line of duty she quits her job as an FBI agent and goes into business solo. She ends up in a town where something is seriously wrong. Dez needs to not only stop a current crime from happening but solve an old one that is connected to her old boss.

I had some real issues with this book and how it dealt with murderers. The story detours...more

A very good book....not great. I enjoyed the plot line and the characters. What I didn't enjoy was having to re-read a few lines to make sure I completely understood who was speaking - or thinking at the time. Maybe it was just me, but at times it was not clear.
The character depth was very shallow and you never felt like you really got to know the two main characters, or why they really felt the way they did about each other.
A little more character development and I would have been invested in...more

I love a good romantic suspense, and this one definitely qualified. I really enjoyed it.

Series Note:
Second book in Walker's "FBI Psychics" series about a group of psychic FBI agents, the cases the work, and who they fall in love with.

Summary:
Dez Lincoln has been one of Taylor Jones's agents for his psychic FBI group for years...and she's been in love with him just about as long, despite his, cold, harsh attitude. But when a case puts her life on the line, leaving her injured, Dez and Taylor fin...more

I. Love. This. Book.

Mostly because of the chemistry between Taylor and Dez. It was so freaking hot. Dez is definitely my favorite Shiloh heroine so far. She is so badass and sexy. Plus, she's a woman of color! I love everything about her. She's just amazing. Taylor was awesome. Just everything about his character. I wondered how Shiloh might make his character likable after The Missing, but she totally pulled it off. I felt his pain and the reason behind everything he does. Great couple, just...more

I really like reading about people who have psychic gifts, it always makes me wish that I had them. Although I don't know if I would like to have Dez's gift. She can see dead people who have unfinished business, she does what they need her to and then they can move on. Her being able to help people, even dead ones, is noble, but the things she goes through is hard. So many of the people have died in violent ways and helping then really takes a toll on her.

I love how things heated up with her bos...more

Fantastic read! What a gripping and intense read.

Shiloh does it again. I first read Shiloh with THE MISSING which one might consider the first book in this line. I think THE DEPARTED is fine as a stand alone book. Yes, the characters are first brought to us in THE MISSING but with THE DEPARTED Shiloh sticks firm with the characters at hand. Characters from THE MISSING are brought up but they never come into this story. Shiloh also does a fantastic job of not overwhelming the reader with constan...more

This was pretty good. Not as good as the first book, but still I really liked it. I was surprised that this was FBI agent Taylor's book. He was such a jerk in the first book. But I understand him better now and I can say that he grew on me.

So this was pretty fast paced 2 mysteries to solve. One was pretty disturbing especially when it involves teenagers. That kid was truly sick and twisted. The second one was really heart breaking and it centers around Taylor and a family heartbreak. I didn't e...more

The cases that Dez picked up after she parted ways with Jones' leadership was actually pretty interesting ... Well ... The MAIN one ... I loved it a lot and that was the reason I continued to read the book. Although the weave wasn't overly complicated, it was still decent. The small arguments that Dez and Taylor had when too much time was spent together was annoying. The arguments reminded me of senior year in high school ... Your prom date danci...more

I really liked this second installment of the special FBI team that investigates paranormally.

Loved Dez in The Missing (which is one of my favorite books) but really enjoyed this story too which I thought concentrated mostly on the hero and did not divulge enough of the heroines past - it was sort of glossed over. All in all though a very good read.

I started this book really late in the evening and could not put it down. It was really different from my normal read and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It had romance, suspense and spookiness all wrapped up in one. Now I need to obtain the first one & read it. If I keep on, I may give out details & I don't want to spoil it for anyone. Great read for a dark & stormy night!

I always dreaded from the PNRs, thinking that they lack in the truth part. But most of my friends are huge PNR buffs, so I decided to pick one too. Now this being the first in its category for me, I think I had nothing to compare against and had high expectations at the same time.

Author Shiloh Walker used his pen-tool in generating an interesting plot. He has woven the story around two FBI agents, Taylor and Dez, one of whom is able to talk to the departed souls. While they together solve the m...more

I really liked Shiloh Walker's The Missing, the first book in this series about a psychic FBI team. This one, not so much. It felt like a typical romance with a couple paranormal mystery elements thrown at it. Walker's writing style is good but the worldbuilding is a little flat and the characters are even flatter.

Wow! This book was so emotional, and I enjoyed it much more than the first book, The Missing. Not only was the mystery more enjoyable, but the romance felt more real. The feelings between our hero and heroine were so intense they made me ache. Really looking forward to the next book in this series!

This book had an interesting story, but it never really picked up steam. It's not nearly as good as the first in the series. It is also not as spicy as many of Mrs. Walker's other books. It isn't a bad book, just not great. Hopefully the next in the series will be better.

Ive read several of Ms. Walkers books and I've loved them all. You can't help but love the characters. Even the secondary characters are very deep. I'm not sure if there are any more books waiting in the wings for this series, but I think I would really enjoy reading more about this psychic branch of the FBI.

I read this book in one sitting. Absoulutely could not put this down. Now I am going to backtrack and find The Missing.

Shiloh Walker is not a new author to me and besides her Hunter series this one is next best!!

Whilst i thought this book was really well written and i liked dez and was happy taylor found peace with her and about his sister... i feel sad about anna , tristian and jacqui. it's all to real this stuff happens and it's pointless and sad.
Vicki Curtis
I enjoyed this book, Ive been interested in Taylor and Dez sine Ive read the Missing.
I wanted to know what drove Tayloor to do the Job he does and to learn more about Daz abilities, and most of all why Taylor avoids Dez...

“My name,” he muttered. He turned his head, pressed a kiss to her palm. “Say my name, damn it.”
Chuckling, she pulled his head close. “Taylor.” She said it against his lips. As she did that, she rolled her hips against him, squeezing down with her inner muscles so that she milked him in a teasing, taunting caress.
Oh, shit…
Little warning tingles were already shooting straight up his spine, but he gritted his teeth. No, damn it. He wasn’t going to lose it after thirty fucking seconds. Especially since he hadn’t told her yet.
But then she did it again, and again.
“I love you.” It came out a broken, harsh groan against her lips, the words he could no longer keep trapped inside. The words he had to share with her, now.”

“Taylor worked a hand between them and stroked his thumb over the erect little nub of her clit. Lifting his head, he stared at her, watched as a harsh, broken sob fell from her lips.
Her nails bit into his skin as she started to come and he gritted his teeth, holding back until he saw her going over. Then, and only then, did he bury his face in her neck and start to move again, hard, fast.
He muttered her name, blind to everything but her…completely and utterly lost in her.”
