Shelves: non-fiction, juvenile
Dramatic retellings of seven specific events during the Civil War including some fairly well known happenings (like Lee surrendering to Grant at Appomattox) and some less well-known (like the Bread Riots in Richmond in 1863). I'm always torn on books like this, based in fact but embellished a bit when the precise details aren't on record. They can draw a reader in and give a good sense of "what it was really like" especially for those far removed from the time and culture. But unless the partici ...more
