After Cor was almost killed in a car accident four years ago, when he was 13, he developed allergies. His is allergic to the sun. He is weak and sickly during the day, and can't sleep at night. But it seems that trouble has followed him.

Dark Matter Heart was a pretty good book. I found it a little slow at the beginning but ¼ ways through it, it really picked up! I loved the connection between Cor and his new “best friend” Taylor. The friendship between them was great and so easy going. I always find it interesting to see how different authors use the vampire myths; killing them, sun, how to turn and Nathan Wrann didn’t disappoint with his interpretation. Dark Matter Heart was a good, easy read and I’m looking forward to the nex...more

Good book for sure, and a must read. The start was a little slow but I think after reading it was because there needed to be a story told and I loved the story, I really liked how it was a different vampire story and I am very very excited to get to the next book. The ending was a great one!!;)

Very good book... Looking forward to reading more with this char. Although some things were predictable like who the teacher is, I really liked the different view on the myth of vampires.

To be honest, I was not in love with this book when I started it. I thought it had some Twilight type undertones to it. I also thought that it moved along way too quickly and I wasn't sure how there was going to be any good closure to the story. This just goes to show that you can't judge a book until you are done with it. By the time I was through with this book I was loving every minute of it. I understood why the plot was moving along so quickly and Nathan did a fantastic job of wrapping it u...more

Dark Matter Heart by writer and filmmaker Nathan Wrann is a delightful and quick read.

The book opens with our lead protaganist, a young teenager named Cor Griffin who has moved to the Pacific Northwest from Los Angeles in the hopes of controlling his "allergies" as well as to escape some other issues that he may or may not have been a part of (I will not spoil that for you). All Cor wants is to make it through high school and be as invisible as possible - no new friends, no sports; just getting...more

Hea y'all so I finished Dark Matter Heart by Nathan Wrann and what a cool story to set off a series. The book is centered around Cordell Griffin a lost and withdrawn teenager looking for his place in life but his debilitating sickness keeps him weak and closed off from the world. When his mom leaves LA for the north western solitude and climate Cor prays it can bring a new fresh start, only to find out he's been followed by an unknown menace. Cor quickly makes a friend with forensics geek Taylor...more

I came across this book while browsing several book blogs. I saw the author’s post saying that he was willing to give readers a free copy of Dark Matter Heart in exchange for a review. I figured, why not? (If you want your own copy, I will post details under the comments.)

By my rating, you can see that I didn't really care for this book....and here is why:

The book is primarily narrated from the point of view of the MC, and at times the author will randomly start narrating from the POV of someone else, in the middle of the page, without warning.

All the action scenes, feature...Stabbing! And Punching! And action words with exclamation points after each one!!!

On the first day of school Cor makes a friend, who of course is one of those people who know everything, ho...more

Nathan Wrann writes a pretty decent story with Dark Matter Heart. I really enjoyed the book, and couldn't put it down. While it was a little slow moving towards the begining, the action picks up furiously towards the end of the story, and then, in true Amazon Kindle published author fashion, ends with a link to purchase the second book in the series, instead of wrapping up some of the loose ends left in the climax.

I won't use this review to comment on the marketing styles of my fellow authors by...more

This book latches on to you and doesn’t let go. I loved every minute of it.

Though he is sickly, Cor just wants to blend in and finish high school and with juice box in hand at a new school that’s just what he plans to do. But of course trouble finds him on his first day. While his new friend Taylor guides him through his classes he happens upon the jocks. Who by all means are terrible and violent. But when Cor refuses to fight back something seems odd. What is it with this new kid?

Cor needs to k...more

Many others have said that the book was slow in the beginning. I didn't consider it to be slow, but when the vampire plot came out all of a sudden I was a little taken aback. To be honest I had kind of forgotten that the book was supposed to be about vampires simply because it hadn't been mentioned for a good portion of the book. So I can see why people called it slow in the beginning.

HOWEVER, I thought the story showed an interesting take on vampires that I haven't read about before. I really l...more

Seventeen-year-old Cordell Griffin and his mother move from Los Angeles to deal with his "allergies". Cor wants to blend in and become invisible. However, no matter where he goes, he cannot run from his secrets about who he is, why he is "sick" and why so many people he meets end up dead.

This is a Young Adult paranormal thriller that I absolutely loved! Cor and his mother move from Los Angeles to a small Pacific Northwest town to deal with his "allergies". Cor is a fantastic character and is a t...more

Firstly, I would like to say I really liked the cover. It gave me high hopes for the work.

This book was good, but not what I had hoped for. I’ve read some amazing reviews on this work but I can’t write one myself. The writing style simply wasn’t for me and really distracted me from the story. This isn’t a particularly long book at yet its taken me four days to read it. In the end I just skimmed over the pages.

The idea behind the awkward writing was pretty good. A young guy who suffers terrible...more

This book is 'FANGTASTIC' !!! I am sooo happy that i read this one . What starts off as a teen / superhero movie with a new guy in town , first day at school , friends with a geek , messing with a bully and crushing on the bully's girlfriend kind of thing turns into a fast paced action thriller . Wooohoo what a ride ! Nathan Wrann is awesomeness in the making . He has this vision , this story that is driven with so many elements . And he manages to bring it out in the most uniquest of ways . The...more

Dark Matter Heart reminded me of one my favorite series The Chronicles of Vladimir Tod. I totally enjoyed Dark Matter Heart it was a light easy read that was suspenseful and kept my attention. I like Cor’s and Taylor’s character. This was another refreshing novel that had the best friend accepting that their best friend may be a supernatural creature. I like how Nathan made it seem like you were guessing between if Cor was a vampire or just had a weird allergy to the sun. I really liked Taylor a...more

It seems I have managed to find yet another enjoyable vampire novel, I’m hoping the luck lasts.

Dark Matter Heart starts on a rather curious note, with Cor surrounding himself in mystery right from the start. There are various little hints to his past and why his mom decided to move, but no clear explanation. There is also the fact that he doesn’t really act like a normal guy though it seems he’s trying his best…All of this really piqued my interest and I ended flying through this.
The writing is...more

So, going into this book I was thinking that it might be a typical vampire read. Thankfully I was wrong.
Yes, Cor prefers to come out at night.
Yes, he has to drink blood to live.
But he's not 100% sure that he actually IS a vampire, and that's what I loved!

When mysterious murders start happening the day that Cor & his mom move into a small Pacific Northwest town, Cor's hopeful new beginning is squashed. All he wants to do is be invisible, not make friends, and graduate.
On his first day of sc...more

Three stars for:
1. Pulling off another vampire story
2. Characters that are lively and I must say I found Taylor a fresh of breath air even when he couldn't believe that his new friend Cor was a Vampire that could get beat up and still get up like nothing happened to him.
3. The suspense was worth the story- because in reading the book all I ever wanted to know was who Cor's Father was and for the writer to have the story go on and then simply let this one quest for information at the end was awe...more

This was "okay" but I was a bit disappointed in it because I was ready for an in your face vampire story and shucks for the biggest first half of this story it never even mentioned a word about vampires just a boy moving to a new town with sun allergies. I gave it a third star just for the scientificness it aroused in me when it prosed the question how do we really know "they" don't exist? Not the movie creatures with all the crazyiness but ordinary people that could be considered vampire. I mea...more

I was pulled in immediatly with this story. You have to know what happened to Cor. You need to understand what he is even though you know what he is. You are trying to figure out if Cor knows what he is. Caytlin is sweet & Cor likes her a lot. But she has a crazy, jovk, asshole boyfriend that you see being a problem right off the bat. You love Taylor, you can't help it. I feel he is attractive in that lab coat, brains are sexy way. But I can see him as sexy without knowing he is. I will be r...more

◆Book Review◆
Nathan Wrann's first book "Dark Matter Heart" was a bit slow in the first few chapters for me, but Nathan sure did make up for it later in the book.

The main characters Cor Griffin and his mother have just moved from L.A. to the Pacific Northwest to help with Cor's allergies, that he received after having a accident when he was younger, but it's not just Cor a...more

When I started on this book, I thought okay just another vampire story... since I love those I kept reading and boy was I glad I did. The characters are so rich and real that you find yourself wondering why it is that Cor doesn't understand what he is. The story was captivating and kept me flipping the pages. If you have ever not fit in at high school, you will immediately identify with Cor and Taylor... they are an awesome pair and Caitlyn rounds it out nicely.

Great book and a page turner.

I found it a little slow at the beginning, almost cryptic, I was about to tquit, but half ways through, the action increased in a way that can´t help but want to know how it will end.

The vampire universe is explained in a different way, almost "investigated" by "genius" teenagers and, Cor is not your typical bloodsucker heroic and indestructible. That is a plus.

Besides the slow start, the fight scenes are really hard to follow. Such description makes them long and almost unintelligible. Just for...more

I really loved how to the point Dark Matter Heart was. There wasn't any useless time fillers. I also loved how there was just enough romance to make it have a cute side. Cor is a great main character, i loved that he wasn't cocky in the slightest bit and was overall a really nice guy. I cannot wait to find out what will happen next in this series and how Cor and his friends will clear their names of murder!

This story was amazing. It is the first YA I have read from the male's point of view. While in some ways it may have seemed slow at the start, I enjoyed those pages because they kept you teetering on the edge of an invisible fence (is he or isn't he a vampire or a very sick kid). The plot itself was great and unique. The characters were well developed and the ending left me wanting more.

Quick and easy read! I thought it was pretty good. I liked Cor and Taylor a lot they were a good team. Didn't know too much about Caitlyn though. His mom kind of passed me off a bit though telling him he was crazy like wtf he is your son. Also the bullies were taken to like a new extreme it was king of intense. But over all pretty good!
