In the afterword, Michael talks about how he based some of the book on his own experiences in the United States Air Force. I thought that it was really cool how he was able to turn some of his experiences into a story. I think it really helped him give some good detail about the different characters and the different situations that they deal with. Since the characters are dealing with difficult and also very dangerous situations, it's helpful to have someone writing about these situations who h...more
Hill 170 by Michael Barclay
I always love a book that is based on real life experiences. Those always make the best reads and this is a great read. Having the military lingo was really cool and makes you see just how it is when men and women are in the service and what they may have to go through. Though I've never really read a military thriller before, I have to say that Barclay has definitely not turned me away to be open to read more.

A military and espionage thriller, Hill 170 is an exciting and fast-paced novel.
The United States Air Force intelligence personnel are in South Korea keeping a watchful eye on China and North Korea. When the team loses an important amount of soldiers they soon discover they have a spy among them. With their lives at stake, the team including their leader, Dodge Bryce, must hurry to keep everyone safe.

I enjoy military thrillers, and some of the best ones are written by those that lived and experienced military life first hand. Such is the case with Michael Barclay's "HILL 170". This novel is based on a real incident but Michael kicked it up a notch and created a fantastic thriller full of on-the-edge-of-your-seat suspense and espionage.
Involving the People's Republic of China and the Koreas, "HILL 170" takes place in the 1980's. With Barclay's presentation of the storyline and characters, it...more

Few authors have the ability to draw you in and hold you captive with a debut novel, but Michael Barclay does just that. Dodge’s character is arresting, supremely intelligent, but totally human and fallible. He has that quiet strength and commanding presence of someone you just know will get the job done, even if it nearly gets him killed. This has all of the action and excitement you could ask for in a thriller, and just enough heart and emotion to keep the characters real.
