Amazing! Perfect!! I would give it 10 stars cause I’m just delighted with it! I liked the story, liked the heroes, liked the emotions and passion and love. Liked the secondary characters, the Falcon Club members. Really liked the emotional fullness of the book. Soul struggles were vivid, heartbreaking. And my own heart was bleeding for heroes’ tragedies.
So, the principal hero – Scot Leam – is gorgeous. Handsome, tempting, intelligent and a spy (ok, ok, not exactly a spy but whatever). What else...more

Lady Katherine Savege has given up on finding any match, let alone a love match after her heart had been so violently broken. Her mother has let Kitty do as she pleases and that has always pleased Kitty very much. I was really into this book until the addition of about three crazy plot twists at the end. It's a bit like mental whiplash - ha, there is this, but wait this other thing, and then, blam! surprise! Oy. So many twists as a set up and then the actual reason for all the drama and danger...taken care of by a good right hook and a magistrate. Meh, what a let down and it really didn't have much to do with anything in the end. A lot of characters were introduced over the course of the plot who are fair...more
READ it if you're a fan of romantic spy story.
DON'T READ it if you don't have the time to decipher the hero's lines.
Let me explain.
On the back cover of the book, the Scottish hero is described to have a 'rough brogue'. So in order to drill that in, the author decided to make things complicated for readers like me who are not so familiar with that accent. For the most part of the book, the hero's lines are written like so:
"Nou, frae whit woud a wumman the likes of ye be needing tae rin awa?"

My rating is more of a 3.5 than a straight 3.0. I really did enjoy this book but the reason I left it at a 3.0 is because of the "love at first sight" romance and a few other quirks that disappoint me in a book were present. However, it is a great read for anyone who enjoys Regancy reads with a dash of spies, love and drama.

This new book by Katharine Ashe was excellent. I really enjoyed this book. It's about a Scot and a Lady. Of course the scot is Lord Leam Blackwood who has been a secret agent for the Falcon Club. He has returned after five years of service and retire to his home in Scotland. He only wants to leave every thing behind him and raise his son. But his plans are interrupted when the weather hampers his journey and is forced to stay at an inn. When Leam meets fellow travelers at the inn, he doesn't exp...more
The first half of the book was really dull, nothing much happens besides most of the important characters getting stuck in a inn because of the snow.
The second half is so much better. There is spy work, plenty of smexy romance, and explanations about our hero.
Leam has a great burden upon his shoulders making him a flirt but never marriage material. Kitty thinks she is barren and since she is not a maiden, unmarriageable. They come together with a great passion.

Overall, I enjoyed Kitty and Leam's story. Their connection and the attraction between them is intense.
I had some trouble following Leam's brogue. My first language is French and I sometimes find it difficult to read historical romance because of the vocabulary. Add to this the Scottish brogue and I'm lost! The author gives a Brief Scots Glossary, but it wasn't nearly enough. I almost gave up reading this book because of the first chapters, but I'm glad I kept reading.

There were some good things in this book - mainly the romance between Leam and Kitty (scorching), the secondary characters like Wyn and Emily (hilarious) but everything about the Falcon Club was convoluted and not very interesting. I thought I was for sure reading the third or fourth book in a series but no, it was the first and yet I was left with the impression I only had half of the info I needed about that Falcon Club.

Leam was certainly an interesting hero. A "spy" sort of, his disguise of being the backwoods Scot was good, but I liked him better when he was himself. Kitty was not a favorite heroine. I liked her previously when (in Alex's book) she saved the day, but here she was too-too much of something which I can't put my finger on. Not really whiny, not too bold, just not right. The whole book was hot or cold for me. Either I was WTF or it was really good. I read the previous book which is not part of th...more
DNF - I think I had the same issues with this book as the previous book I read by this author. There are so many details that are omitted from the story and initially I wondered if I was reading a book that was the second or third in a series, because it seemed that I was expected to have a passing understanding of who the characters were. The narrative jumps awkwardly and characters behave strangely, and I found I was continuing more because I was perplexed than because I was interested. Ultima...more
This was my first time reading one of Katharine Ashe's books – part of my attempt to read more from the historical romance writers of today in addition to my beloved classics. As much as I love the genre, I find I can be surprisingly particular about it (or maybe that’s what we all do when we're passionate about something) so I’m not necessarily won over by an historical romance on much of a whim. But with When a Scot Loves a Lady, the debut of Ashe's new Falcon Club series, I was immersed from...more

Alright before I start this review, I just have to rant a bit about something that has entirely to do with myself. Why is it that I continue to purchases books that I already have a copy of? Like why can't my mind latch on to the fact that I've already bought the book. Maybe it's because I have too many to keep count?
Anyway I started this book a few days ago, I immediately made a note of the fact that Kitty was not a virgin. Do you know what the ratio of virgins to non-virgins are in the romance...more

Maybe 3.5 stars. I was a bit back and forth with this book. The first few chapters had me a little confused as to what was going on. Then, once the characters got snowed in in Shropshire, things started getting really interesting and I didn't want to put the book down. But, then when they left Shropshire, things went downhill again and I lost interest. And then when they all ended up in London, there were maybe 2 chapters that were awesome (LOVED the kitchen scene with Kitty and Leam) and then w...more

Lord Leam Blackwood is weary: weary of the secretive work he does as a member of the Falcon Club and especially weary of the guise he dons to fool society into thinking he is someone he is not. After years of working for the crown, Leam only wants to return home, even if it means returning to the place filled with the ghosts of his past. Instead, he finds himself stranded at a small inn at the same time as Lady Katherine Savege. Kitty may bear the...more
Delightful, passion-filled and OMG Amazing. If you enjoy historical romance and have yet to discover Katharine Ashe...who obviously spells her name WRONG... LOL... Then you must read her books.
Seriously, what are you waiting for?
Okay...you need more. Let's see. Alpha heros who have their flaws, Heroines who are not TSTL (too stupid to live) and do not fit the trend of the Ton. Add regency dresses and the wagging tongues of gossips and you have a romance in the making.

If you want a hero to sigh over and a heroine to keep him on his toes, this book is for you! There were so many twists and turns in this book that I was left gasping with each of them. Katharine brought me to tears and laughter. Such an emotional read and I loved it! Secrets galore that keep you guessing the entire time. Leam thinks he has hardened his heart because of past mistakes but along comes Kitty who just turns everything he thought he knew about himself on end. I cannot wait to continue...more
It was drawn out and wordy, half the time I didn't understand what Kitty was doing or what she was thinking which was weird considering how many words there were in this book about thoughts and feelings. I think I'm turned away from this authors books from now on. The only interesting story line came 80% into the book. Other than that it was pretty difficult to read.
While the idea for the plot was most likely a good one, the implementation of it was terrible. The author appears to have left some details in her head and not transferred them to the paper. Illogical jumps were made and assumptions of knowlege about the characters and their emotions made the book very difficult to follow.
The first half of the book was a bit slow, nothing much happened. It's not that it was bad, but it just told about how Leam and Kitty meet, how they have the feeling they know each other and how they're attracted to one another.
In the second half of the book, the story starts to flow and it becomes harder to put the book down. There is some more action, a few problems to overcome and a happy ending. I'm glad I read through to the second half of the book.

Alas, yet another one read without immediate review. I enjoyed it, but the main character was a Scottish Lord who kept switching back and forth between regular English and Scottish because he was a secret agent. I found that annoying. I think that books about secret clubs and agents aren't my thing.
I really enjoyed this story, I absolutely adored Lord Blackwood, and Kitty as well as secondary characters Emily (with all her a.k.a's) and Mr Yale (he was just too cute). My less than 5 star rating is based solely on dialogue. Most frustrating was trying to figure out what Lord Blackwood was trying to say in his Scottish brogue. I actually had to stop in certain places and try to sound things out so it made sense to what I was reading...a few times I had to give up and go on. I think the author...more
