In this spirited reworking of the classic song “The Twelve Days of Christmas,” Joy has to deal with her first Christmas with a new baby brother—and nothing could be worse. He drools on the ornaments and ruins the presents, he eats all the cookies and smashes the snowmen, and he’s on the verge of taking over the whole holiday. Joy’s patience runs out as the baby’s mishaps ...more

Six-year-old Joy is ready for Christmas, but her baby brother Sam doesn't have the same approach to the holiday as she does. When she prepares to put her favorite angel atop the Christmas tree, Sam tears off its wings. After all, this is his first Christmas, and he behaves as babies will do. This updated version of the classic Twelve Days of Christmas follows Joy and Sam through much mayhem as the days march inexorably to a Christmas that Joy is sure will be ruined by her brother. But he has a ...more

Love! I really love the artistry. Neat to read this is the illustrators first children's book. I hope he has many more. The story is great. I was concerned at first, but it goes well. A great family read, especially for that uncertain and new older sibling.

Ryan Wood is a concept artist and illustrator. This is his first picture book. He lives in Utah.

The world can be so negative and difficult at times for some of my students. I hesitated to read them a book that composed the words "worst" and "Christmas" in the same title. Christmas deserves much more than that and all of us need to cling to the hope that the birth of Christ brings into our lives. But after reading this book to my Kindergartners, it was clear that Christmas deserves laughter and joy as well. So many of my kids have younger siblings and could relate to the frustrations Joy ...more

It's kind of unfortunate timing that I read this book when I coincidentally have a nephew who is six and a niece who is one. All through reading this, I just kept comparing the characters to the two of them and wondering why Joy was such a mean big sister and why the baby's parents were so shitty that he could get into everything constantly, like no one was ever supervising him. Also, I don't live somewhere that snows, but.....do people take infants sledding?! That seems weird and kind of ...more

Anyone who was young enough to appreciate Christmas but old enough to know all the aspects has had those moments where someone isn't following the rules. Older siblings will definitely empathize. The ending is saccharine and some of the non-numbered rhymes are awkward, but a fun alternative to the traditional all-feel-good Christmas story.

Joy is 6 and is celebration g Christmas with Sam - it's his fist. He finds a lot of ways to ruin everything. This book is a very fun read-aloud! I really enjoyed singing my way through it with 3 groups of 2nd graders. It follows the melody of The Twelve Days of Christmas and they caught right on.

The bright beautiful illustrations by Ryan Wood really helped make this book a fun read. The story was a silly retake on the Twelve Days of Christmas song that people attempt to sing (many screwing up, myself included) each holiday season.

Joy tries to enjoy the days leading up to Christmas, but her new little brother drools on the ornaments, eats all the cookies, and wreaks havoc on the holiday, leaving Joy's holiday spirit weakened.

This was a fun read. You can especially relate to this book if you have ever spent a Christmas with a 6-18 month old in the house.

The illustrations were awesome, but the text wasn't that well written. Nice spin at the end.
