A quick disclaimer: I've read the ENTIRE series and thought that it would be nice to just have one book instead of twenty seven volumes (tankoubon) in my book collection (since I don't want to sound like a pretentious douche and well I did the same for "Calvin and Hobbes" and "Bone" so there you go!) I haven't read the included novel in this package "The Ties that Bind" nor do I possess the poster also included so don't throw a hissy fit if I don't review those aspects, ok? Ok!

Fullmetal Alchemist just ate up the first two months of 2014 for me.

I did read other stuff in there, for sure -- I fell into a pattern of reserving the next 3-6 volumes of this at the library then reading another book until they came in -- but since the Christmas party where a friend gave me the first three entries, a not-insignificant portion of my life has been set up around tackling this series. I finished the final three volumes in one breathless sitting Saturday night, staying up irresponsi
I don't think manga can get much better than this.

Fullmetal Alchemist is on its way to becoming legendary, and deservedly so. As a longtime lover of manga who read this series while it was being published, I can say that there's not much out there to rival it.

There are solid characters, painful backstories, a complex and swift-moving plot, humor, interesting world-building, alchemy, heartbreak, various PoC, political commentary, visibly disabled characters, action, many complex ass-kicking thr
It took me two days without internet and outside surroundings to read twenty seven volumes. So much emotions flooded over me. I've seen animation before but comics are great enough not to compare with. The ending sums up the whole bunches of ideas. It hooked me, as it did to Edward.

I'm so grateful I read it when I'm old enough to recall complicate issues and moral conflicts.
Interesting plot, originality, characters you fall in love with or loathe, action, wit, philosophy, a dig at our society, nice drawings, surprising plot-twists, it's all there in FMA.

The best Manga I have ever read! It cannot get better than this. I'd highly recommend the Manga as well as the Anime to everyone.
"Fullmetal Alchemist" by Hiromu Arakawa is a highly enjoyable and innovative manga series comprising of 27 volumes (over 5,000 pages in total). It's both character and plot-driven and could be classed as a 'philosophical/action/science fantasy/thriller' but includes elements belonging to the horror and humour genres. I'll be reviewing the English translation.

There are two English translations, one by VIZ (an American publisher) and the other by CY Manga (a Singaporean publisher). I
I don't know what to say. I loved this. I think you should read it. NOW.

In this world, alchemy is a science. If you have the brains to understand and remember all of the elements in various materials, you can rearrange and repurpose them. Edward and Alphonse Elric are prodigies, and when their mother dies, they think they can bring her back, because they know what "makes up" a human being. It's a desperate move, and childish. Such a move is both illegal by the laws of man, but also by bigger law

My favourite completed manga of all time. I cannot even describe the feelings i have for this series. It was just amazing, the plot, the characters, the setting. Everything was perfect. It made me laugh, it made me cry. It made me love the two brothers Edward and Alphonse Elric, with Edward the older one being my favourite character. The difficulties they overcame and the struggles they faced. Read it and you will understand! I give it not five but ten, twenty stars!

For those comic fans who are willing for one of the best stories of all time, Fullmetal Alchemist had one f it because of its intricate storyline, amazing characters, theme delivery. Almost known for its every aspect. In short i would like to say it's great.
One complete story, has a start and a finish and does not go for a never ending quest. Liked the characters and their journey. I recommend the anime series (Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood) which follows the original manga.

Wasn't bad, definitely had its good moments, but was full to the brim with manga cliches, which got a bit annoying. Also the muddled use of anything related to "alchemy" and other crap thrown in wasn't helping.
If you're ever only going to read one manga, read this one! Because there are few works of litterature that is so well planned and executed. There is not a single character or story arch that isn't thought through and interesting. The women are strong and independent and the men shows weakness and flaws(and the most many man ever is the sweetest character of them all).
The story in itself is baffeling and has so many plot twists! Good ones. Great ones. It has a cultural depht that is uncommon in
This manga is amazing. The suspense, the mystery, the build-up, the character development, the slow pace while incovering the truth behind the whole government... It was astonishing.

Fullmetal Alchemist is a thoroughly entertaining, original, and satisfying story. At a hefty 27 volumes, it can seem intimidating. But this series is full of humor, heartbreak, and relentless action. The main story really begins to beef up at around volume 15, and from then on it is a nonstop ride. It echoes several themes present in many popular series, including Harry Potter and the Hunger Games. Thankfully, this series also has perhaps the most action-packed and emotionally satisfying climax ...more
I wasn't as crazy about the ending as I would've hoped, but this is still the best manga I've ever read.
I strongly advise everyone to read/watch this series. This has maybe taken over my life.

One of the ultimate, best, and altogether most "awe-inspiring" series of books that I have ever had the privilege to read.

This series explores so many different things a book or series can that if I were to list them all in my review I would die of fatigue before I'd be done. This is one of the greatest series to ever be penned.

Read this series if you adore: in-depth thought, deep plot, complex and "real" characters, and an overall epic story.

You will not regret it.

This is one of the few graphic novels that have completely captured me. It's an amazing story to read and the artistic work its just awesome, it takes you to a new and different world, I read the series twice and would read it again in the future. I even based one of my school projects on this series and my teacher loved it too and got hooked up on it! It is Just a great series to read.
the greatest and best of all time, my favorite work of fiction now and forever, non-manga readers are missing out, when i die bury me with my box set, if i die an untimely death i hope you're like wow i should read this it's what riley would have wanted for any and all human beings on this earth etc

Hiromu Arakawa, 荒川 弘, is a Japanese mangaka famous for the series Fullmetal Alchemist. Her real name is Hiromi Arakawa.

“In researching this volume, I interviewed veterans who had been at the front during World War II. I read countless books, examined film footage, and listened to many detailed and intense stories firsthand, but the one comment that affected me the most came from a former soldier who lowered his gaze to the tabletop and said, ‘I never watch war movies.” 32 likes
