I was utterly captivated by this endearing, sweet romance. Lucien is a vampire born out of tragedy and has never really embraced what he has become. The loneliness he feels is crushing and it pained me to the bone. The first person narrative was so well done, that you couldn’t help but feel his emotions, his longing for some normalcy, in his not-so-normal life. He becomes involved with Samantha and her delightful...more

I had heard (or rather, read) really great things about this book, but after starting it I was disappointed and expected this to just be an okay read. I'm very, very happy to say that I was wrong! The book starts slowly and it took a little time for me to get into it, but it ended up being an absolutely lovely romance with a hero who gained a permanent spot on my Best Romance Heroes Ever list.

Forever Freed is a very sweet, romantic, and heartwarming story. The relationship and bond that forms among the three main characters, Lucien, Samantha, and Olivia (Samantha's daughter), is tender and endearing. Especially, the relationship that developed between Lucien and Olivia. The interactions between the two was fun, sweet, andmy favorite part of the story.

I found Laura Kaye's books through a friend of mine, who also liked her fanfiction on the internet. The first book, or should I say, novella, I read was "Hearts in Darkness", which blew me away in originality and simplicity; i.e., no battles scenes and few characters.
This story was a heartfelt, emotional and lovely romance between, a vampire, Lucien and Samantha, a human. Another interesting twist and one I found unique, was the inclusion of a 5year old girl, "Ollie," Samantha's insightful daugh...more

Wow, what a completely brilliant read! Although a paranormal romance, this had much more a contemporary romance feel to it. Even though the hero was a vampire. Actually I'm in love. With my first vampire. Seriously.
Very hard to put this one down. A gorgeous romance. Kudos to author Laura Kaye for making me believe that a romance between a human and a vampire is not only possible, but beautiful.

Opening Line: "The sleek silver Beemer swerved roughly to the curb in front of my driveway, cutting me off as I pulled out."
Lucien Demarco is hungry. We join him (in 1st person POV) seeking out a blood source after a long dry spell. One night he runs into an old vampire friend who ironically is now director of the Detroit blood bank. All our hero can think is perfect, guilt free sustenance, freedom from the weak blood of animals and evil men he’s been forced to feed on. As Lucien wanders the hos...more

Wow!! Loved this story. The majority was told from Lucien's POV, and he was a marvelous character. There was so much depth and emotion to him. There was one page where we got to hear Olivia's thoughts via her diary, and if I hadn't already liked her, that would have cinched it. They were so good for each other. Watching him fall completely in love with her and her daughter was magical. Olivia was a treat. She was just adorable and definitely added to the story - very rare for me to enjoy a child...more
A heart-warming story about a vampire named Lucien and the human woman and her child who give him a reason to carry on with his life. They enable him to absolve himself of the guilt he carries about the murder of his wife and daughter, who were killed by the vampire who turned him.

This book is not perfect, but this is a new author to watch. I really believe that once Laura Kaye gets a few books under her belt her star will really begin to shine.
After reading the wonderful freebie 'Hearts in Darkness', I enjoyed it enough to read more by this author. She has only a handful of books out so far. I really, really enjoy the way Kaye writes characters. They are so real, and like people you know; regular people with problems and ups and downs in their lives.

Man I'm on a role with finding books I love lately. This one was about a vampire who fell in love with a human and her daughter. He went from wanting to consume her to wanting to protect and love her.
I couldn't put this book down. I read all night. It was filled with so much passion and emotion. Actually a lot of emotion since Lucian was an empath and could feel everyone else's emotions. (Wow. This book ended up really rocking. about 30 percent of the way in, I had to "take a break" because it just wasn't doing it for me, not really. But getting back to it, something clicked and it took off. I ended the tale with a smile on my face.)
This is a standalone vampire story with a great deal of character development. In fact, this is all character driven. The mood is subdued, and actually starts out very, very slowly, but there's a wonderfully flesh...more

Thanks to Nyasa for the loan.
Nyasa had warned me about this book, she was pretty sure it wasn't my gig. Eh, what can I say, she's often right :).
This is a standard romance with a paranormal twist (Lucien is vampire, but it wouldn't have changed much if he had been mob...). I found it boring, really boring. I realized I was skipping entire paragraph at the end.
Nothin wrong with the author, mind you. Simply, such books are not for me. Please, read her review to get an other point of view.

I seriously think I'm being too generous by giving this book three stars but it was an original idea for a paranormal read even if the author failed in the execution of said idea. I dont think I ever read a book that was so intense and boring as hell at the same time, I found myself forgetting this was a paranormal read which is crazy because the entire book was from luciens "the vampire" point of view. now I'll be honest at times I did find this book entertaining it had its moments ,but mostly...more

When I first started reading romance novels, I swear I didn't sleep more then ten hours in the first week, I could not put them down. Now, it's takes something I'm either extremely excited about, or an exceptional book. I started reading this as soon as my kids went to bed one evening, and didn't stop until I was done. It made the getting everyone up and ready for school a fun time, OK not really but was very worth it.

Lucian Demarco is a vampire who has been punishing himself for years because he was unable to save his wife and daughter from being murdered by the vampire who turned him. He tries to maintain some semblance of goodness by only taking the blood of criminals and other undesirables. However, his gift of empathy makes him vulnerable to feeling their evil emotions as he consumes their blood. He has gotten so depressed from everything he’s been through that he’s more or less going through the motions...more

Lucien Demarco has hated his vampire life for over 100 years. His family was murdered and he was turned (then abandoned by his maker), but he’s been wrecked with the guilt of his wife and daughter’s death all those years.
When he meets a little Olivia at the local hospital and she doesn’t shy away from him, instead looking him in the eye and smiling at him, he’s amused. On his next visit to the hospital, when he meets a woman, Samantha, whose...more

Where to begin. Let me start off by saying this is the first book I've read that's had anything to do with vampires. I'm usually not a fan but after reading a few of her other book, I decided to give this one a whirl. Well, I'm glad I did!

LOVED IT! Forever Freed is a fresh, insightful and SEXY look into the evolving love affair between Lucian, a dark, brooding vampire hunk and Samantha, a refreshingly happy and enthusiastic human woman. Also unique to Forever Freed is the author's inclusion of Samantha's daughter, Olivia, as a full-fledged participant in her mom's life, and therefore in the relationship with Lucian. Rarely do we see such a well-developed child character in adult fiction. In our modern world, many people do have t...more
I really loved this book! I definitely connected with these characters. I loved the fact that it was told from Lucien's point of view. Lucien is a vampire who had lost his wife and daughter in a tragic turn events. He spends many, many lonely years hating who and what he is. I tend to have a thing for dark, tortured, and brooding men. You just can't help but like Lucien, even though he is a predator. He meets a little girl named Ollie who is just adorable and wise beyond her years. He later meet...more

So to begin, I would like to say that this book is a little bit on the difficult side to get into. The beginning doesn't just grab your attention like some other books too. Laura Kaye’s Forever Freed is unlike any vampire romance I’ve read to date. With characters that grab you from the start this is a book that will stay with you long after you finish. Lucien Demarco is a vampire, over a century old, with a tortured soul that is crying out for the happiness that he lost so long ago. When Samantha and her very special daughter Ollie come into his life you can feel the hope in Lucien grow as his feelings for these humans, his girls, are written out on the pages. Luc...more

I love vampires and love seeing how others give them their RULES. Laura Kaye has created the rules, picking and choosing from Hollywood and books.
Lucien is hurt by sunlight, silver and could die if his head is removed. He has FANGS...I like fangs in my vamps.
He also can "taste" emotions and when he is hit by JOY it nearly brings him to his knees.
Samantha is a happy person, but she's no Pollyanna. Her life has been touched by sadness but she doesn't dwell there.
