This book grabbed me right from the first page, with a strong sense of atmosphere and an immediate sense of spooky anticipation. The characters are really well-developed. Justine is a historian with a secret past who is reclusive and private by nature. When she learns that she will have a bodyguard named Brian with her at all times, she's not happy about it, especially when she recognizes him from her past. But Justine was a little girl then, and is a strong, capable woman now. Her strength and ...more

I have to say that I love the way Jana DeLeon writes. She's become an insta-buy with me and I'm sad because I've gotten to the end of her backlist. Nooooooooo. (Ms. DeLeon, please write faster.) Having said that, I liked the previous book in this "series" better. The Secret of Cypriere Bayou (Harlequin Intrigue) just felt...stronger, but when I stop to think about it, I can't say why. I think I just liked it better...and it's hard to bump this book down a star just because I have a favorite chil ...more
it was ok. Romance between Justine and Brian seemed forced. There was hardly any conversation between them so it was really strange that they wanted to get married at the end of the book.

Bayou Bodyguard - Ghost-in-law series #7 (Brian and Justine)

Bodyguard Brian Marcentel knew Justine Chatry had a job to do, but so did he. He'd been hired to keep her safe-- from whatever lurked behind the walls of a long-neglected mansion. And yet, the beautiful researcher insisted on helping him investigate every suspicious noise and following him through the murky bayou as he tracked down trespassers. All of that paled in comparison, though, to his greatest challenge: trying to resist her when
If you haven't read The Secret of Cypriere Bayouand can get it, read it first, it is very enjoyable when read in order.

I didn't enjoy Bayou Bodyguard quite as much as The Secret of Cypriere Bayou, but it was still a wonderfully creepy, gothic read as the reader once again returns to laMalection Mansion, which the main story is told through Olivia and John in the book above. Olivia makes a brief appearance in this book, and I was a little taken aback at how quickly she burns rubber and puts poor
We are back at laMalediction, that remote bayou mansion in Cypriere, Louisiana, that was also the setting of The Secret of Cypriere Bayou.

Olivia, the owner of laMalediction and the heroine from The Secret of CB, has hired Justine Chatry to do research for her on the mansion. Justine has a past that seems suited to a creepy, bayou locale and tries to keep her past hidden from Brian, the bodyguard assigned to keep her safe.

Brian is not really the world's best bodyguard, even by serial romance stan

Off-duty cop Brian Marcentel knew Justine Chantry had a job to do, but so did he. He'd been hired as her bodyguard with orders to keep her safe--from whatever lurked behind the walls of the long abandoned mansion. And yet, the beautiful researcher was no coward and insisted on helping investigate every suspicious incident and even went along when he searched the bayou tracking down trespassers. All that paled in comparison to the greatest challenge of all: trying to resist her and keep it busine ...more

Very good read!

Love Jana Deleon's writing...great story and characters. great connection between books. read this book in three days. had to put down
I have a feeling I would have enjoyed this book far more if I'd read the book that (apparently) precedes it. Liked the reaction to the big secret, and definitely enjoyed the writing. Will read this author again.

A good mystery in a a creepy mansion out in the bayou swamps, thrilling! Justine is doing research for a book, Brian was hired to protect her and together they have a mystery to solve. Loved this book.
I didn't like this one as much as the first. I thought it was rushed and not as spooky as book one. I know there's a formula for these books, but I really miss Jana Deleons humor that's in all of her books.
I had no clue this was the sequal to The Secret of Cypriere Bay when I bought this! I almost loved this book more than the first one.The ending really suprised me.
Excellent read! Very addicting. Read my full review at:

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Jana DeLeon was raised in southwest Louisiana among the bayous and gators. Her hometown is Carlyss, but you probably won't find it on a map. Her family owned a camp located on a bayou just off the Gulf of Mexico that you could only get there by boat. The most important feature was the rope hammock hanging in the shade on a huge deck that stretched ou ...more
