Agatha Christie perfected the locked-room murder. Nancy Drew stumbled into murders that mystified adults. However, PENELOPE AMOUR must solve a murder that confounds the adults in her world before she becomes the next victim. In Ron Voigts' debut novel, we laugh and scratch our heads at the antics of the invitees to Penelope's 13th birthday party in an isolated mansion ruled by her strong-willed mother and eccentric father. Then, Ron takes us to the darker side. After the first murder, a gypsy fo...more
Penelope lives with her eccentric parents in a lonely house in the country. For her 13th birthday her parents invite an assortment of interesting guests, but little do they know that murder is on the party games list!
The bodies keep piling up, and though Penelope's parents tell her to stay out of it, she can't help but try to solve the crime. Especially when the murderer leaves her a chilling message in the attic.

For Penelope Armour and, indeed, one of her guests, it’s going to be a birthday to remember. Sadly, it won’t be in a good way. As the blurb suggests, the birthday brings together an array of guests with the purpose of celebrating Penelope’s birthday but it all goes a bit awry.
Penelope has to face the bumbling ineptitude of the adults around her as she proves herself to be a far more logical thinker than any of her grown up relatives. She takes it upon herself to find the murderer and follow the...more

This is a funny, nutty story of a thirteenth birthday party that goes all wrong. Wrong meaning murder, two murders. The Armour family is trapped with a killer in the house during the party, and no one can leave, nor can the police be called, because the phones are out and there is 24 inches of snow on the ground. The characters are all a little whacky, which makes them really fun. This is a murder mystery the whole family can enjoy on a wintry night.
Cute young adult mystery story. Penelope is having a party but she doesn't really know the guest but her mother makes her attend anyway. Once the first body is found it seems that Penelope and her new friends try to figure out what's going on before someone else gets killed. Not a bad way to spend an afternoon in the sun.
