Recommends it for: Historical Erotic romance readers, the 5 stories contain graphic sex scenes
Historical erotic romance and historical smut of quality are a little hard to come across. Wanton Wives by Catherine Gayle, is a fair anthology of five stories of married women in the Regency era (not specified when exactly) who are unsatisfied with their love lives and set on improving it.

I got this as a freebie from amazon and didn’t have many expectations since the uniqueness of the genre combined with the 0.00 $ price didn’t inspire me much, but I thought to give it a shot. Well, I was pleas

Now, don't get me wrong, I'm a huge lover of the sweet Regency Romances of someone like Julia Quinn. All virtuous and virgins, but I love me a good Post-Napoleonic roll in the hay.
Catherine Gayle's delivers those yummy Regency men we all like to swoon over and a bit more than a romp in the hay in her short stories.
Often times in short stories or anthologies we readers just don't get enough time to connect with the characters, and in erotic romance it's often just about the sex. But these vigne
I've been reading these tantalizing erotic Regency short stories over the course of a month, in between novels and novellas. Jane Austen would be shocked, right? Regency-era erotica? Somehow, I don’t think so. The Regency era in which Austen lived was pretty wild and daring and featured a dissolute Prince Regent who freely flaunted his outrageous lifestyle. While Austen greatly disliked him, he was a fan of her stories and had copies of her works in all of his houses. He pretty much commanded, b ...more
This was surprisingly good.. I liked pretty much all of the characters but Holbrook needed a longer story. That was the only one that really disappointed me. The sex scenes were pretty good. not raunchy but not flowery either. But I didnt like how all of the stories basically sounded the same.. The sex scenes were so much alike.. I also didnt like the voyeuristic parts in this story but thats just me.. Holbrook's story had the most potential I think but fell way short. I hated how it ended.. Hec ...more
It's not often you find an erotic historical romance, and having read two (full length) that I really enjoyed, I was hoping for a lot more from this one.

Unfortunately, Wanton Wives is very much about the sex, and not the characters or relationship. While I enjoy a good erotic romance, I don't really read much erotica for that reason - I need a storyline and at least some character development. That said, the sex in Wanton Wives was pretty vanilla, so I don't even know whether this would be class
Victorian erotic short stories. All the stories are interconnected, which was interesting. Several married couples are staying at someone's country house. Through various situations the somewhat prudish wives are shown 'the pleasures of lovemaking'. Not bad, but several of the stories are more than a little repetitive.

This Anthology was good reading, this is a book that a wife should read with her husband if he like romance books. I hope you do another set of these books becasue I read all of the books in one day.

An surprising good read all the stories interlocked and had a nice flow to them were the suspense was not just who going to have sex nice but what is going to happen next.
