The novelty of this series wore off very quickly. I praised the first book for it's originality, enjoyed the second book, and struggled through the third book. I barely made it through The Necromancer. The pace isn't quite as break neck as the previous novels, but there is still plenty of chase scenes. I really think the alternate points of view do not help this series. I really don't want to read about the bad guys having mundane conversations and plotting things. Nothing of import is really ha ...more

The storytelling throughout the Secrets of Immortal Nicholas Flamel series can be compared to a waterfall. What started out as a powerful force with a clear heading and characters that were often connected, has now plummeted downward to an end of some sort, but throughout the journey, the flow is fragmented and broken apart, sometimes rejoining, but a lot of it turning to mist, with no hope of congealing again.

It's really a shame that the series had so much potential with the first few books; bl

I don't know what's wrong with the rest of the people, but I think this series is great!!! I thought the last book was my favorite when I finished it, but can I dare say that this one was better? I don't know what is going to happen next but I' m not waiting to see either. Book #5 is downloading as I write this.

I finished the arc last night/this morning, staying up till just before dawn to complete it. And yes, it is that good. I will go so far as to say it is the best of the lot.

Up front, let me say that I loved this series right from the beginning though I have also shared some other reviewers frustrations with the year-long delays between books. Book 4 is astonishing. There have been hints throughout the series that Michael Scott was building an entire world and here we begin to see it all come toge

My congratulations go out to Michael Scott for another well written book in the series. I just have one request Mr. Scott. Please please don't go J.K. on us and call a wet fart the ending. Ok. On to this great book. I won't give details because I really want everyone to give this one a read.

The story picked right back up and was action packed from the start. One of the things I liked most was all the background and character developement in this book. We got more info about Scatty and the Witch

I think it is possible to divide this series between the first three books and this one (and most probably the two others which will follow: The Warlock (2011) and The Enchantress (2012)). This book takes a whole new tone and you get from the beginning that things really are serious and that a war or at the very least a conflict is imminent. The three first books were about Awakening the Twins and teaching them some magic, as well as fleeing from John Dee and Niccolo Machiavelli. The Necromancer ...more

Kurang seru

Hanya saja menurut saya perpindahan tokoh ditiap bab jaraknya kadang terlalu lama sehingga "rasa" kejutannya mulai hilang. Adegan pertempurannya pun juga tidak terlalu seru. Saya akan menulisnya kejadian yang

The Necromancer is the fourth in a series I've enjoyed a great deal. Like the Percy Jackson books from Rick Riordan, it is filled with characters from myth and history, mixing lots of different worlds with the story of 2 (not-so-)normal American teens, in this case twins Josh and Sophie Newman. In my opinion, it is much better written than the Riordan, and the story is much more complex and satisfying.

This fourth volume is more scattered than previous ones, with multiple story lines diverging fr

I have completely enjoyed this whole series so far. I have especially enjoyed the characters as they travel through their world, trying to figure it out. I like how with each new book in the series, they are constantly growing and trying to navigate through what is thrown at them. And as always, I can't wait to read the next one by how the author ended it. There is always a hook. I wish my boys were still little because they would have enjoyed this one.

My Recommendation: Same for the entire series, if you’re reading them for the first time I’m sure you will LOVE them! The myths and legends Scott brings to life throughout the series are so well crafted and have such great personalities they stay with you. The only downside of the series, and this is coming from a re-read perspective, is that it’s hard to ignore what you know at the end. It was really hard not to let what I know about the end of the series affect my re-read of the series. For a ...more

This book was pretty good but it was not my favorite in the series. I was not as engrossed with it as I was with the others. I think that one of the biggest things I notice was an irritating habit of certain phrase being used over and over again. For example, if I had read that the characters were using a language that had been long forgotten or that had not been used in centuries I was going to throw my Kindle out the window. I get it, the characters have lived for centuries and as time goes by ...more

My thoughts on the two main pairs of the series:

I'm starting to dislike the Flamels more and more - their personalities keep changing. Sometimes they would seem gentle and wise, other times snappish and impatient. It's really annoying, because the inconsistencies in the characters make it really hard to figure out what they're really like. At times, John Dee and Nicholas Flamel seem like the same person with different names.

Sophie and Josh are the same as ever: boring. Plus I still can't sympat

Michael Scott is an excellent storyteller. This series of books has lots of different characters, yet it never gets confusing. In fact, it keeps up the excitement! Scott masterfully cliffhangs the reader at the end of one chapter with one group of characters, and then starts the next chapter with another group of characters, and repeats. The story lines and the character's journeys are woven together brilliantly! It makes his books pageturners, and this book even more so! This book is much more ...more

No. Mr Scott, you did *not* just do that.
Please tell me I dreamt that ending.
That is not how a book is allowed to end.
Alas, it did.
There I was absorbed in the story, flipped the page expecting more....THE END.
I screamed.
Well, it was more like a yell. I yelled at the book. No joke. Ask my brother. He heard.
He thinks im a weirdo for yelling at this book, but it deserved my shouts. And it deserves the crease on its front cover from where i threw it at the wall.
So read this book. You will ag

Hei! Ternyata buku ini gak seburuk dugaanku... :D

I’ll be honest; I have not read the first three books of this series. I’ll be honest again; I loved this book. I plan on getting the first three as soon as possible so that I can read up on how the story got to where it is (although Michael Scott does an awesome job of setting things up so you can pretty much figure out where everyone stands and how they got there). Easily comparable to the Harry Potter books (you may remember Nicholas Flamel as the original owner of the Sorcerer’s Stone in the ...more

Standing in the check out my son was paging through this book and we were both delighted that there will be a 5th book! I am excited that the story isn't over yet and look forward to reading the next book in the series before I even start this one!

My biggest complaint, the only complaint that I have had is that I dislike having to wait a year to read each installment in this series. But that aside, the books themselves continue to be more amazing with each one.

This book was very good and since

A definite step up from the previous entry in this series. The Necromancer introduces some really exciting twists to the story, and the climax is filled with suspense. Moreover, the new characters introduced in this book are some of the best, like Virginia Dare and Aife. And John Dee gets far more interesting when he's desperate.

However, this series fell prey to every fantasy cliche that drives me nuts, starting with the "learning to master the elements" cliche where we spend pages reading image
