Simply a great little book. This is the very brief second part of Jones' four-book World War II saga, following *From Here To Eternity* and preceding *The Thin Red Line*. The place is a U.S. Army camp in Hawaii, the time is shortly after the Pearl Harbor attack, the problem is a stray pistol that is coveted by every soldier who finds out about it.
