At Peace has become one of my very favorite Kristen Ashley books, and Joe Callahan has become my favorite, most over the top, nigh unto Neanderthal, über alpha heroes ever. Mitch Lawson still holds the #1 spot for favorite, most realistic, über alpha hero from Kristen Ashley’s books, but yeah… Cal is everything I love in a tormented hero and there’s no question in my mind that if I could choose a hero to bring home and love all better, it’d be Joe.

I knew this book would be great. I was not wrong. Kristen Ashley did it again. She made me fall in love with yet another alpha jerk who is damaged, scarred and hurting. What a beautiful book about love, healing and second chances at life.

WOW!I loved this book!
I will admit to not fully enjoying the first half of the story because the hero was a complete and utter jerk, but the second half more than made up for it and shined brilliantly.At Peace made me laugh. It made me cry. It made mehappy. It made mesad. It made me giddy. It also made me irate at times. Can Kristen Ashley write a bad book??? I think not. This may be my new favorite of hers. Couldn’t get enough of Joe and Violet! I fell in love with this story. An amazing read!

This bloody book had me in knots & stitches the whole time! Literally loud sobs coming out of my mouth & tears streaming down my face one minute, then laughing out loud the next.
The only other book to effect me like this was "The Gamble" (also a Kristen Ashley book)... Go figure? .. LOL!

Wow! I loved this! Kristen Ashley is an amazing author warrior queen! Seriously! At Peace is the 8th book of hers that I’ve read and highly enjoyed and it’s one of my favorite KA reads. Although the Colorado Mountain series and my beloved Law Man still hold a definite edge.

This book had me wanting to set up house within its pages. I loved it!
Then the throwaway background plot just got in the way when the author had to wrap that up.

Before I begin my rant (because that's pretty much all this review is), I'd like to clarify something: I adore Kristen Ashley. To me, she's the Walt Disney of adult fiction. Her stories are unforgettable, fulfilling, and utterly beautiful.

Characterization:
Violet and her daughters are a great trio, having survived the death of husband/father, they come across as valiant survivors who hold on to each in order to move on. The two girls, Keira and Kate, are given unique enough personalities for the reader to appreciate. SHELVING FOR NOW: I know I'm probably going to get flayed for this, but I hit the 45% mark and was hating it. I love Kristen Ashley's books. LOVE THEM. They're like the cozy blanket you curl under because you know it'll make you feel better after a crappy day. But I don't like Joe or Violet. REALLY dislike Violet. Hate where the story's leading. I know I should just trust that K.A. has good things in store for them, but right now I can't. Will return to it when I'm feeling more forgiving, lol.

This is the first book by KA to make me cry. I have read a quite a few so far and let me just say this is the one that ripped my guts out.It was all because I have a brother who I adore and if anything happened to me I know he would be out there doing something to fix it and make it right for me. Because of that I hold him very close to my heart. So what happens to Sam in this book devasted me, I was right there with Violet smashing frames around the room and wailing. Second read - 05/26/2012 -- 5Stars, but would give it any maximum I could .. Just love this book. I think it may actually be my favorite, above Sweet Dreams, if you can believe it. We've all said it before about this book, so I won't add but a few tidbits I may have missed the first time 'round.
Joe/Cal - what is not to love about this bad-ass Alpha marshmallow?

I get why everybody is ga-ga over these books. They are fun hot reads. I give the story 4 stars and the editing 2 stars. I enjoyed reading about Violet and Joe and their love scenes were pretty hot. Joe was an alpha male to the core. I didn’t have issues with that. My issue with overuse of the word buddy, way way overuse. Within the pages of At Peace there is a 4, perhaps even a 4.5 star book. It has all the ingredients. A great hero, a heroine I liked, a good story. And while Kristen Ashley's writing style is rough and occasionally confusing it worked for the book.
So why 3.5 stars? At Peace is long to the point of distraction. I would be reading a section where a bunch of characters were chatting, and 20 page turns later (on Kindle) nothing has really happened and they're still chatting. There were char...more

Now this was more like KA! Colt's story was good but it didn't feel like KA to me. Joe and Violet was definitely what I love about KA. So funny, captivating, emotional and intense. I couldn't put it down.

KNOCKED OUT!!!!!!!!!!Intense Emotional Tension filled story,absolutely loved the characters,this one also had me gripped from start till the end,it made me laugh,smile,cry also angry but at the end enjoyed it so so much.Will keep my review short only,don't wanna give spoilers, going on next book:)

“Nope,” he agreed again.
“You won’t let it.”
“Barrel’s got a hole in the bottom, buddy, everything leaks out no matter how much you pour in.”
She was silent a moment then she whispered, “Right.”
She turned to the door and his hand gripped his bourbon so hard he had to focus everything on loosening his grip or the glass would shatter.
Before she opened it, she turned back. “You don’t know, Cal, you have no idea.
You’ve shut yourself up for so long in this fucking house with your tragic memories, you have no idea what’s about to walk out your door. Kate, Keira and me, we could have plugged that hole. We could have filled you so full, you’d be bursting. We would have loved that chance. We’d have given it everything we had, no matter the time that slid by, graduations, weddings, grandbabies, you’d have been a part of us and we’d have given everything we had to keep you
so full, you’d be bursting.”
Cal didn’t reply.
“Joe,” she whispered, “you let me walk out this door, you’ll lose your chance.”
Cal didn’t move.
Vi waited.
Cal stayed seated.”
