It all started when my sister, Thea, discovered an old, mysterious map. In no time at all, my sister dragged me and my cousin Trap into her treasure hunt. It was an adventure I’d never forget.

This is a wonderful series. It was started in Italy and became so popular it is now written in 35 languages. I love love love this series. The books are based on a mouse world.

The narrator is Geronimo Stilton, a learned and brainy mouse: editor of The Rodent's Gazette.

What I liked and disliked about it:

I liked this book because it's funny and the story is good. I like stories that have mysteries and adventures like this one does. It was really cool that there was a treasure map. If I found a treasure map, I would try to find it - especially if...more

I really don't see understand why this series is so popular. I've been seeing the books around everywhere for some time. This week I got to read the first one. My 8 year old son had brought it home from the school library to use as part of a reading challenge that his school is participating in. He was never engaged, lost interest half way through, and stopped reading. I finished it tonight, and was also very disappointed. I'm really quite surprised to see that this was originally Italian, perha...more

The premise of this story sounded really cute and I was ready to truly enjoy reading this with my six year old daughter. But I thought this was a really empty story. Most of it read like an outline of a story rather than an actual story. With short chapters, each one covering some "terrifying" event, I really wish the author would have cut out some of the events and actually wrote about the ones he mentioned. Focus on quality rather than quantity. Each action sequence goes about as deep as this:...more

Geronimo Stilton books take the new chapter-book reader past the 100-page mark for the first time, but the use of graphics makes it an easy transition. Longer sentences and more difficult words will make this a challenge, but the creative use of font color and size, illustrations and formatting are engaging enough to encourage kids to tackle the book.

Many words and sentences appear in varied fonts and colors, which is interesting, although not necessarily relevant to what is going on....more

Gegen seinen Willen muss Geronimo nun verreisen, mit ei...more

This book looked interesting, but I was seriously dissapointed after reading it. I understand that this is a successful series, and perhaps I was too old when I read it in 2000 when it first came out (I was about 12 at the time). The series reminds me of the Magic Tree House series although MTH is by far much better. There were certain elements to the storyline that I liked which is why this book gets two stars. But unfortunately it doesn't have very many redeeming qualities in my opinion. A hug...more

My sister's sons really like these books and I've had a hard time finding something my son will read (besides Diary of a Wimpy Kid and a few graphic novels) so I thought we'd give them a try. They are quite fun. The typeface is large and easy to read and words throughout the story are printed in a different font with different color, style, and effects. There are lots of full-color pictures, but the pictures still take a backseat to the writing. The chapters are short which makes it easy to move...more

In the series, the title character is a talking mouse who lives in New Mouse City on Mouse Island. A best-selling author, Geronimo Stilton works as a journalist for the fictional newspaper The Rodent’s Gazette.

He has a younger sister named Thea Stilton, a cousin named Trap Stilton, and a favorite nephew, nine-year-old Benjamin Stilton. Geronimo is a nervous, mild-mannered mouse who would like nothing better than to live a quiet life, but he keeps getting involved in far-away adventures with Thea...more

I'm always looking for books that might appeal to my reluctant reader boys. This had some rave reviews. I read it to the two little ones (ages 9 and 6). They didn't seem TOO into it (but they don't seem to like much). I did catch them saying some of the lines in the book out front (I consider that a good sign that at least they were listening somewhat ... the main character Geronimo gets called a lot of nicknames and he does NOT like it, so he, and my boys were saying "My name is GER-ON_I_MO!" ....more

Meine 8 jährige Tochter konnte...more

My daughter, Esther got this for her late birthday present. It is a cute story where Geronimo is begged to go on a treasure hunt with his sister, Thea and they take their cousin, Trap and nephew, Benjamin stows away. They get shipwrecked and then make it to the island. Then they survive, make shelter, find food. They then go looking for their treasure....the "Emerald Eye." While searching for it, they find quicksand (Trap pulls Geronimo out) and a trap (Geronimo pulls Trap out...due to his bad s...more

I read this years ago, with my older son. Now, I read it with the younger one.

Having read a whole bunch of these since that first read, it's interesting to see how this series changed. Got better in some ways, and worse in others.

This story is OK--it's an anticlimactic adventure story. Both of my kids have been a little confused by the "treasure" that is found.

What's better about this book than latter ones in the series: Geronimo is not a perfect hero who can do no wrong (and makes things look...more

I see this series being read by my fourth grade students. I'll admit I have recommended this series many times to students, but never actually read one. Normally I would never do a blind recommendation, so I decided to crack one open and see what all the hubbub was about.

Groan. Yeah, I guess I can sort of see why beginning readers would like them. The action is quick, the pages are colorful, and the humor is ever present. But as an adult reader the plot is jumbled, the colorful and eye-catching...more

Meh. That is all I have to say. I enjoyed the fun colorful text and pages, but the story was boring.

One of my pet peeves is people who write dumb downed children's literature. Why do we feel the need to dumb everything down for kids? So much research proves that prime learning years for people is when they are young. So why does everything get dumbed down when they are the target audience. I like reading books that have rich plot, language, and characters that have more depth to them. So books l...more

I have literally falling in love with this series. I was born a Geronimo Stilton lover and fan. The books are all very well written and have interesting picture and words to describe the story as it goes on. I can't thank Geronimo enough for the books he has written, some of the best books I have ever read. I currently have his latest book on hold at the library and I can't wait to read it. I am warning you if you have not read any of his books I suggest you do it know, you are missing out big t...more

Wow i can not believe Geromino Stilton because every time Thea drags Geromino in a adventure all he does is he writes about what he is doing why can't he just relax and enjoy the adventure that he is going to.What i h don't really like about Thea is that she is a very dangerous person when she gets to a adventure because she fets todo wild things in her adventures.Whati like about this book is that when they found the lost treasure of the emerald eye it had me relieved because they finally got w...more

I'm determined to read all of the books in the kid's section at work. Geronimo Stilton is a cute book. It's quick to read. In 'Lose Treasure of the Emerald Eye', Geronimo goes with his sister Thea and cousin Trap to find the emerald eye. They lose their boat and get stranded on an island. After having an adventure on the island, they realize that it's actually a resort island. As they are flying home, Geronimo looks down out the window and sees that the island looks like an emerald eye.

3.5 stars really; a charming start to a series featuring Geronimo, a slightly self-important, proper, and terribly rational newspaper editor (and mouse), whose more raucous relations lead him on adventures (after just a teensy bit of resistance and complaining by Geronimo, who pretends to be strait-laced). Be ready for a barrage of mouse-related puns. My favorite part of the books is how on every page, certain words are highlighted by a different font (for lack of a better term -- it is somewher...more

Our girls really like the Geronimo Stilton chapter books. I think they are quite corny, but they are fun and filled with action and adventure. We've also read a few of the graphic novels. I prefer to read the chapter books aloud, but our girls are enamored with them both, so I humor them.

This story was a tale of a sailing adventure to find lost treasure. The ending was very strange, but we still liked it. The plot was a bit reminiscent of "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade," especially the pat...more

Eh... it was ok. I thought the styling of the book was lots of fun- especially the fonts. The story was alright, nothing earth-shattering. I can see, however, why it is such a popular series. The author has a funny sense of humor, with made it more palatable. Tucker seemed interested in it, so I may grab another of the series to read aloud to him. He would be able to understand it, since the book was so easy to understand.

I had heard that these books were really popular, but other than that I really knew nothing about them. I thought I might be teaching a grade 3 class this year so I thought I should try one out. I'm sure glad I did!!! They are very entertaining and I love how it is written visually. I was talking to a teacher friend and I thought it would be a great idea to get my (future) students to write their own stories in this style.

I did not care for this book in the Geronimo Stilton series. The text was peppered with different sized, fonts, and colored text, making it difficult to navigate. There were also pictures overlaying text which I found distracting. The author used slang and jargon that 2nd and third graders may not understand. The theme and plot were weak and unrealistic. Don't waste your time reading this one.
Kendra
It took me 50 minutes to read this book and I would have been done faster if I hadn't stopped to look at the pictures from time to time. This book was ok, but the story line fell flat. I do not know why it is such a popular series other than that it has "comic" style drawings in it. I'll keep buying them for my library, but I don't think I'll be reading any more anytime soon.

I don't think I get why these are popular. I guess because they're fast-paced with lots of illustrations, and have funny mouse/cheese references. But the main characters are adult mice, with sort of adult problems (nothing inappropriate, of course). The story in this first of the series was so-so, and I thought the changes in font color, size, and style were distracting. Hmmm.

Great opening book to the series! It's a nice way for kids to step into independent reading. The writing also has so many onomatopoeic words, similes, and other figurative language that it's an awesome way to introduce those literary devices! And, as a fontophilia (there must be a word for this by now), I drooled over the multiple colours, fonts, and font styles!
Jen
My nephew Brendan loved these books so I thought I'd check one out. This is the first in the series. I was surprised to see certain words highlighted to help early readers grasp the meanings quickly (the word "wide" is bolded and wide on the page, "green" is green, a whisper is small and shaky, etc.). There are lots of cute puns about cheese and rats.
H Wells Lucas
An excellent story about four mice on an adventure in search of the Emerald Treasure. The text was very
vibrant and at times almost seemed to be alive due to the different fonts and changes in directions on the
pages. The text would actually show movement and activity or emotion. Very cool maps of the city and the
island in the back of the book.
