REVIEW:
Well let just say to Mrs. Cross, Thank you for writing this great story!!! I understand how many times people will just make assumptions that its another 'Twilight' theme read when they read its about Vampires. HECK NO ITS NOT!!! From the moment you begin to read, it throws you into the story! You have no idea whats going on and all you can do hold on for the ride!!

Elizabeth Markum is thrust into this world when she is accidentally turned into...more

I am completely shocked that I hadn't read this book yet. I am totally taken with the characters, the story, everything. I love how Willow Cross writes! Her writing is fluid and she takes us through a story well. Birthright begins with Liz going before the council, but then it takes us back to her memory of how she got there. Let me tell you, it’s not easy to pull this off and she did a great job with doing it a few times in the beginning to let us know how Liz got where she was and also where t...more

Willow Cross is an amazing author!

I got this book, and fell in love with it. I can not wait to read more from this author. The story flowed and even though it was 263 pages, it was awesome. I wish it could have been longer since I did not want to stop reading it, but I am hoping this author will continue writing about Michael and Liz, and all the other characters. I want to see where this book can go. I highly recommended this book and this author to everyone.

I didn't know how to categorise this book. I've shelved it under fantasy and pnr, but it's not really either. The only thing I can really think to describe it is paranormal fantasy because the romance is non-existent and it's not really an adventure, tho it does attempt to be... People promised me a pulse-racing read. I didn't get that at all.

I found this book.. boring. I've never given a negative review before and I don't want to start now but this book was a snoozefest and I struggled every st...more

Yuck. This very very very rarely happens to me that I can't even finish a book. I can't believe this book has the ratings it does. I thought it would be a no brainer -WRONG! First I cannot STAND the perspective it was written in. The author switches back and forth between 1st and 3rd person between paragraphs!! And the first person isn't even the same character!! Nothing and I mean nothing was developed in the story.
Ok, meet a guy, go to make out with him he turns me into a vampire accidentally...more

Without a doubt, The Dark Gifts Birthright is the best vampire tale I’ve ever read. What drew me in the most was the lack of stereotypes. Lately, vampires have been changing, and not for the better. Some have just become bizarre, which makes you want to drop the whole vampire category entirely. But Willow Cross did something dissimilar and mesmerizing with this novel. The plot and overall idea was fresh and universally ingenious. It sparked my imagination beyond fathomable comprehension and open...more

I was invited to take part in this blog tour and thought the book sounded really interesting. Just my sort of thing at the moment so I enthusiastically agreed. I received a free e-copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

Liz meets Michael and feels an instant attraction to him, little does she know that he is a vampire - until she wakes up as one too and realises it was him that turned her. All of a sudden she is thrust into this new life and not only does she have to get used to being...more

It was one kiss from a stranger. Liz couldn't believe she gave in so easily. She realized she wasn't herself. That one kiss and what happened with it was to change her life forever. She found herself wandering, trying to escape from Michael. What had he done to her, and why was she feeling this way. Things in her body were changing and she was running, running from Michael through the night. Inside her mind it was like she could hear his thoughts "Must find her." As the sun rose her skin burned...more

This book is unlike any other. I was impressed from page one! This book grabbed my attention and would not let it go....literally I couldn't put it down...and found myself reading until 3 in the morning because I had to find out out what happened next.
I read numerous books from this genre and did not realize, until I read this book, how predictable many of books are getting. Usually with the first hint of foreshadowing and I have already guessed what will happen next. So when it does happen, unf...more

I found out this book because I am actually participating in a blog tour for the author Willow Cross next month (check out my blog at www.yanovelreader.com). From reading the description I was really intrigued and excited to read Birthright because it sounded like an interesting take on vampires and witches. Once I started reading I could not get enough of it and quickly read through the book in a few days. The story itself is a unique, entertaining take on vampires and witches, which was extrem...more

***(Slightly Spoliery)***I was introduced to Willows writing when I read Oceans of Red volume 1. My only complaint then was the story was too short because I had really gotten into it. With Birthright it was great and not so short. Willow simply has a way with words that bring you into the world she so perfectly weaves. While a lot of stories take some build up to get you into the action this one starts right off with Liz's transformation. You are hauled right away into a world that neither you...more

What a wonderful way to start my reading journey for the year 2012. For weeks I have answered questions by Willow Cross on Facebook trying to win this book. Although I never won, she has many faithful followers who have one multiple times and one of them (THANK YOU- JENNY BYNUM) gifted me her copy of Birthright.

This book is was awesome! It has perfect balance when it comes to romance, action, suspense, humor and mystery. I opened the book on New Years eve and was whisked away on this wonderful...more

Can't beleive it has taken me so long to find this great author and her brilliant books!
I do like the cover even though I am a little unsure whether the female on the front is Angie or Liz, either of them would fit the image for me. Would the cover draw me to the book? I think it would yes, I like the colour's on the cover. They entice you to pick up the book.
I became truly hooked into this book and it's plot and sub plots almost straight away. I could hardly wait to read more of it and hated ha...more

The first point that comes to mind when reviewing Birthright by Willow Cross is that this book is not like any other Vampire story you have ever read. Everything about it is fresh, new, engaging, exciting, fun and all the other good characteristics you can think of. If anyone ever suggested a book that was about vampires, witches and druids, I would have laughed, but Ms Cross has crafted a world where all of these creatures live and work together to do what is good and right for all.

As I read a...more

It's not shocking to me that I enjoyed this book (I've liked everything I've read of Willow Cross's). Her female leads are always tough and yet tender, and her adversaries are always plausible. Also important, the dialogue feels genuine and the plot moves along at a good clip. So...all the usual "things I expect from Willow" stuff was there.

In Birthright, I will say the one aspect that impacted me most was Liz's journey and growth. She had to go a long way in a short time...which she did swiftl...more

I started out really enjoying this book. While it was a good book, it dragged in places to me. Making it a book that I could set aside for a bit.

This book is told in a narrative style. Liz has been transformed into a vampire. It is a mystery for a while, because it usually takes three bites to transform a human. Michael only bit her once, thinking that she would make a great snack. She is also a mystery because she masters the vampire powers much sooner than a newly formed vampire should. Plus t...more

I truly enjoyed this book! Willow makes her characters come alive and I couldn't help but care about them. Birthright was a new and unique take on vampires and it was very easy to get pulled into this story! The setting is vividly described and the characters are explored enough that their reactions and decisions make sense. I had a hard time putting this book down. It is full of action, drama, and romance with a splash of horror and suspense!

I would highly reccomend this book to any lovers o...more

"THE DARK GIFTS: BIRTHRIGHT" BY WILLOW CROSS

I am on a continuous search for something different when it comes to vampires. Not necessarily that the entire concept has to be changed but at least that the story is different and not the same old vampire falls in love with human type deal. I can even deal with that as long as there is an underlying story that drives the synopsis further than just revolving around the romance.

I can honestly say that Willow Cross has done just that, she has written a...more

I was drawn immediately into the story by the first few chapters in this book. The author sets up all the drama and danger very quickly and expertly while relating the turning of Liz by Michael. The world that is inhabited by these vampires and the talents and powers they possess were very imaginative and added much depth to the world-building. Somewhere in the middle of the book I started to become a little disappointed. The danger and complications that arose from the war that starts among the...more

After reading Birthright, by Willow Cross, I’m quite shocked that this book has such a high rating. This story opens up with the main character, Liz, who finds herself drawn to a handsome stranger, Michael, at a local fair. As you may have guessed, Michael turns out to be a vampire, feeds on Liz, and turns her into a vampire without actually meaning to. Soon after Liz arrives in the vampire underground, a sort of civil war breaks out between the vampires who are after power. Liz learns that she...more

Michael found what he thought was only going to be his lunch, but once he bit into Liz it was something more than he ever thought. Michael was a hunter bringing bad vampires to justice but his life as he knew it was changing. Liz was a vampire after one bite. He knew this wasn’t possible so he had to get answers from the Council. When he went to see his father, things changed for him and Liz and a war was in the making. Angie is a young minded vampire with many skills and William is a ghost that...more

So I was part of the Birthright tour during the month of October and unfortunately this book wasn’t my cup of tea and that is why I posted a teaser instead of a review during that time. I really like the cover though, it matches the plot of the story and it convinced me to read this book. Honestly the only part that was interesting to me were the first two chapters of the book. The rest had a lot of awkwardly phrased sentences and spelling mistakes. This book...more

Not the typical vampire story. Interesting from the very beginning. Liz is brought forth to the Vampire Council to learn her fate and the fate of her Maker. Liz has been accidentally turned by Michael, who is a Vampire. It all started with a kiss... He is confused because it takes 3 encounters to be turned, but he was only with Liz this one time. Liz is special. She has powers that she shouldn't have so early on. As soon as Liz is turned, she and Michael have this intense connection and they don...more

Book 1 in The Dark Gifts Series

I bought this book immediately after finishing Afterlife (the companion to this book) as I had fell in love with the characters William and Angie, and wanted to read more. I was a little apprehensive but thankfully I wasn’t disappointed at the full length novel, it delivered everything I wanted and so much more.

Within a first few chapters, I was completely gripped and couldn’t wait to continue reading each night to see where things would l...more

Terrible. Are y'all sure we read the same book? I have no idea how it got such good ratings. I DNF... I returned it for a refund. I normally try as hard as I can to finish a book I started, and I promise I put all my effort into it. Just couldn't this time... Disappointed.

This is book 1 in the Dark Gifts series and it has exceeded my expectations. I love vampires and witches, paranormal, action and romance so this book suited me perfectly. There were a lot of twists in the book that kept me captivated throughout.

Liz was bitten by vampire Michael and she turned, and no one could believe she would turn after just one bite. I don’t really want to say another else because it really is a must read book and I don’t want to spoil it for anyone else that buys the book so...more

First of all, this book was absolutely perfect for the Fall season! There are vampires, witches, ghosts and even yes, demons!! And these creatures are not just thrown in there for fluff, oh no! Willow Cross does a great job at making them make sense!

So, the plot was really good. I loved additions as I said above but it was such a good read. Not exactly candy easy but easy enough to plow through and beg for more! The beginning was the only thing that got me a little thrown off but really that was...more

Willow Cross resides in Arkansas with her husband, two children still young enough to live at home, an enormous cat named Bitsy, and a scaredy-cat dog named Tank. Her home has been known to host the occasional ghost, and a few of her friends profess to be witches. Although she dearly loves Vampires and Werewolves, they are never invited for dinner.

“Liz wrenched her hand from his grasp, and this time, she stepped boldly forward. “I will stay and Michael can go.”  Her voice did not waiver as she pronounced her own death sentence. No matter what happened to her, she knew she couldn’t let him die.” 4 people liked it
