This book has been labeled romance. Don't even try and find it anywhere else in your bookstore/library. It's really too bad though, because true believers in romance novels will be disappointed and those who like a good romp will forever miss out!

this was an interesting book. I was not too sure how I would like it with the time frame that the novel took place in but it was pleasantly surprising. This book falls under a romance, but it didn't really read as one. Yes the heroine fell in love, but the scenes with Sebastian were hotter than the ones with Phillip, her supposed love. I do want to read the next novel in this series. I hope that Sebastian is in it again. I think he will be. I was a little sad that Phillip didn't make it; ...more

I read a blog by colleen and thought her series of historical paranormals sounded interesting. This is basically Buffy The Vampire Slayer in Regency England. The concept is great, and by the end of the book I was ready to buy the next installment. That said, it did take me about a third of the way through before I really got into the story. Okay about a fourth of the way thorugh and can't seem to push myself forward. It's way too much for me to believe. First off your a vampire slayer who is born with the abilities (Buffy) okay that would work for me b/c hey I bought into Buffy. But then your elderly aunt wants you to take over. I keep hoping for a vampire romance I will like. I've nothing against vampires--I like them in mysteries and horror. But in romance, they always fall flat. I thought since this was the winner in the Dear Author and Smart Bitches March Madness, it would be better. Sadly, no.
It's hard for me to take the vampires seriously when the rest of the novel reads goofy. The tone of vampire romances NEVER matches the story for me. I can't explain it better than that. And so, I'm always disappointed...more

Has a copy to sell/swap
This book is TERRIBLE. Everything you suspect about it being a big historical Buffy rip-off is absolutely correct, except that it lacks the wit and charm. I got so bored with it that I never actually made it to the end--I finally dropped it about 3/4 of the way through, a point where it wouldn't have taken much effort to finish, but I just didn't have any motivation to keep reading at all.

If you like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, then you will love this book. It has touches of adult romance, so, little kiddies, stay away. But, it's set in the 19th century, in London England. So, a female heroine in a ball gown with wooden stakes hidden in her hair do who knows martial arts is the perfect story for all of those who appreciate the classics when it comes to vampires.

a promising historical vampire series - though not exactly romance (no HEA or HFN) and only one sex scene, but alas - it's not really urban fantasy either. Victoria was born a ventanator aka a vampire hunter, she must learn to accept her destiny and fight to protect those around her - though she struggles with her desire for a husband and a "normal life".

it's a struggle at the moment. supposed to be really good - like buffy, but better, and set in the regency period. So - has everything going for it. but i don't care. should really just return it and get over it.

I really love this series so far. Very original, and set in England in the days when woman wore long dresses, tight corsets, and single ladies were never unchaperoned. Imagine trying to slay vampires under those circumstances! I also liked the history behind the slayers, which the author has created. Give this series a try!!

A good, fun book. It's really interesting, her take on vampires and the people who hunt them. There are love triangles and diangles and quipangles and many other fun things like that. What I learned from this book: Because a book resides in the Romance section of Barnes & Noble does not mean it has a happy ending. Dammit.
Pretty good book though. The heroine is Buffy-esque, but the story takes place in a Jane Austen type of environment in Victorian England.

Buffy in Regency England. Fun, if predictable. The first few chapters were a little slow, but then the story kicked in and the pace picked up. I'll probably give the series one more book, as the heroine potentially gets a lot more interesting in the epilogue.

A wonderful adaptation of the traditional vampire myth told from the view of the vampire hunter. This book took the best of Dracula and the best of Regency historicals and told a bittersweet tale. I'm looking forward to the sequel.

I'm interested to see where this series goes - it certainly left off as if it would and that could be interesting. There were a few weak points, but overall pretty good. Re-imagined Buffy in a lot of ways, but still fun.

Dude! What if Jane Austen had written Buffy the Vampire Slayer? This book is what you would get. An interesting and confident heroine, a fascinating world, and great action. Excellent book!

Quite fun, oddly classed as Romance, when it's far more Sci-Fi, but then the names of the characters are quite absurd, so I guess romance it is...I mean Rockley? Really!
