Wicked Incognito Now
So, this is the fifth Susan Wiggs book I've read and I realized that what I LOVED about her at first, is exactly what I'm beginning to find tedious and predictable about her writing now.

The storylines are quiet, simple, truthful, and almost pure. The first book I read was Just Breathe. I thought it was so refreshing. I loved it for its honesty and lack of big misunderstandings, unnecessarily florid sex scenes, etc. But now I'm finding the exact same elements--boring. Unreal. Unnatural. Too pure....more

Susan Wiggs writes books that make me hopelessly nostalgic for my childhood summers at the lake and at camp. I chose Lakeside Cottage as my summer kick-off and it was the perfect choice. While this is definitely a romance with the required focus on relationship and HEA it also packs in a lot of extra, well-written story that allows four main characters to do a lot of growing and maturing over the course of a summer.

Ms. Wiggs excels at describing lake settings and activities. I think she may lov...more

This is a very sweet book about families and how so much of the time family is not related to you by blood, but by choice. This book is also about being true to yourself, and how sometimes doing that puts you on a path you never expected, and how sometimes, just sometimes the stars will a line and you get more than you could ever dream.

Kate heads to the lake with her son to escape being fired from her job, JD is there to just escape from the circus that his life has become, and Callie is there...more

Not a bad story but I much preferred her other novel "Table For Five".

From cover:

"Each summer, Kate Livingston returns to her family's lakeside cottage, a place of simple living and happy times-a place where she now hopes her shy little boy can blossom. But her quiet life gets a bit more interesting with the arrival of an intriguing new neighbour. JD Harris. Although she is a confirmed single mother and knows little of JD's past, Kate is soon drawn into the sweetness of a summer romance and disc...more

Kate a single mother heads to the family lakeside cottage for her annual summer retreat. This year is different - her family is not coming along and she has recently been fired so she looks forward to some soul searching and time with her son. Enter JD (America's hero) and Callie (a runaway) with some health issues. The attraction between Kate and JD is threatened by a secret and fear. Sometimes I felt Kate could be a little bold and brazen with some of her comments to JD regarding their new rom...more

This is my first time reading Wiggs and it’s easy to see why she’s a NYT bestselling author. Her style is easy, her characters are multifaceted and interesting, and the story was captivating. Although a little more PG than my usual choices, I thought this book was a nice change of pace. There was a little action/suspense, some drama and some laughs. I’m not sure if she’s similar to Jodi Picoult in her ability to explain a disease to her readers, but I liked this book a whole lot more than I like...more

I read this book during the cold winter, and it made me warm inside. Kate Livingston is a wonderful mother. I can understand why she was so hesitant to have any romantic feelings for someone she knew nothing about. It was nice to read a story which also discussed juvenile diabetes. My father died from this disease at a young 49 years of age. If the hints and tips offered in this book even touch the lives of a few young people, it will be well worth the time she spent on research. I definitely re...more

I liked this story, there felt like there was completion in the story line. Katie wants a man in her life, but is afraid of how rejection will her herself and her son, she learns to open her heart not only to another person, but two at the same time ( she fosters an older child with a health problem). JD learns not all women are cut from the same mold, and some things are worth more than pride or privacy. Interesting romance based on the "15 minutes of fame" problem.

Although I very, very seldom buy these romantic love stories, I'm glad I spent my money on this one. I had a couple of very nice - most nightly - hours of reading. Susan Wiggs did a very good job and got me hooked to the story, when halfway I thought: Oh my, Kate is a freelance report, will she reveal in Vanity Fair her affair with JD. It turned out to go a completely other way in the story and that's why I liked the book.
It's a very nice comfort read to relax during a holiday and it will keep...more

I had to read this novel for my reader's advisory class. It's not what I would expect a romance novel to be. It is contemporary, and I guess the idea is everything in the world isn't all roses. I enjoyed the way Wiggs wrote the book. The inner dialog of the characters was interesting. That being said I didn't really appreciate the tangent on diabetes and thought the book was about 100 pages too long. In the end, I have to admit it was better than I expected it to be. It's not my style though and...more

This book was mentioned in Donald Maass' "The Fire in Fiction", a book on writing fiction, and it was used to illustrate techniques in connecting details to emotions. I picked up this novel as part of a project I have started, using the examples in Donald Maass' book as a reading list.

I am not typically interested in reading romance novels, but this story was actually entertaining and well-written. It felt like the characters had enough depth to draw me in and make me care about them, and I fou...more

you can't go wrong with a Susan Wiggs book. They are comtemporary books that are big on the family dynamic. Not a lot of steamy romance but just great family stories that everyone can relate to. You can't wait to read the next book in the series to see how everyone is fairing. I love her Lakeshore Chronicles Series, she is highly recommended.

I enjoyed this book, however after reading her Lakeside Chronicles series the story line was a bit repetitive. The characters were interesting and the setting was cool. She is quite good at describing a place to the degree that you feel like you're there. In this book it was the wilderness of Washington state. She raised several social issues and presented both sides through the characters. Very well done.

This was my first introduction to Susan Wiggs. I was frustrated by the predictability of the storyline...boy meets girl, boy loses girl, boy gets girl...so much so that I thought about not finishing the book. But I liked the characters so much I found myself rooting for them and kept reading. The end, as well, was predictable, but I liked it anyway. Who doesn't like a fairytale ending?

Another well-written light romance from Susan Wiggs. As usual the characters have some depth and change and react to situations in the story. While the unspoken contract between reader and writer assumes that the main characters will end up together, the story of how they get there is worth the read.

Another great book by Susan Wiggs. The Lakeside Chronicles has been a great series for me. I love the Lake, I grow to love the people and care about their lives. I am happy that Susan Wiggs has written lots of books, maybe I won't run out of stuff to read.

Kate and the "hero" are amazing!

A fairly typical contemporary romance set in the Pacific Northwest, Susan Wiggs’s novel features Kate, a single mom, and JD, a reluctant American hero. Add in a summer lake house, a teenage runaway, and some good summer grilling, and you’ve got yourself a novel.

Any further descriptions of the plot make me feel fairly silly, but the novel itself was pleasant enough (though not so pleasant that I’ll be picking up any more of her titles). Earnest, moving, and carefully plotted, this will work for r...more

No romance, no mystery, to much narritive and just plan boring. This is one of the worst books I have read in a long time. This is my first and last Susan Wiggs book. This was a freebe from the library, I am so glad I didn't pay for it.

I always look forward to a new Susan Wiggs book. Her characters are always so vivid to me. I love the way that all the characters in this book stay totally true to themselves and to what they feel is right and important. A good read.

A very sweet romance. I loved Kate and her ability to take in and foster the teenage girl in the story. I loved the love story between Kate and JD. I wish we had a lakeside cottage, it sounded like such a peaceful place to be.
MaryAnn
I liked it...didn't love it. The storyline was good but unrealistic and the ending was a dreaded 'rush to print' ending. Writers take a lot of time developing characters and wanting you to think of them as friends and when they suddenly say "that's it, the end" it really irritates me.
Ann
Very enjoyable story & well-written. Wiggs has believable characters and situations. Her POV for the characters was great. I'll add more of her books to my list.
Michelle
Once again I absolutely love Susan Wiggs books! This is the second one I have read. This book was another easy reading, can't put down suspenseful, yet not too suspenseful reading. Moving on to the next one of hers.

Another wonderful book by Susan Wiggs! How does becoming a hero affect your life? How much should the public know about you? How can a single mom with a hyperactive son change the life of a runaway foster child? All these questions are answered in this superb book by one of my favorite authors. This is a stand alone read, not part of a series. You feel so close to these characters and you're not always sure what ending you're rooting for. Definitely a great read.
Marlene Pool
Enjoyable read. Found it interesting with the teenager dealing with diabetes and with the other character dealing with fame and how it can ruin your life, when its something you don't want. Local author who incorporates local cities and locations. Looking forward to reading more of her books----
JoAnne
Enjoyable book - classic Susan Wiggs. Definitely recommend it. Characters are multidimensional and thus more human. Laughs, some tears.
Laurel
My first and last Wiggs novel. The description leaves out my favorite character, Callie. Her story made it worth reading the book.
Connie
A light read that is perfect for summer leisure reading, especially for those who love the Pacific Northwest coastal area.
