I started this book looking for a fun, light read after reading a heavy NF. This wasn't exactly light; but it was a really, really fun read. This is officially my favorite of the Edge series. The first one was good, the second one better; but this one knocked it right out of the ball park. This is not a standalone book, however. While not completely necessary to read the first book of the series, this story is definitely a continuation of the second book, Bayou Moon. Many of the characters from...more
I've been a fan of Ilona Andrews ever since I read On the Edge
, the first book in "The Edge" series. Despite my sometimes finicky attitude toward paranormal fiction I like the genre when it's inventive and well written and I was really looking forward to Fate's Edge
.But, like too many of my favorite urban fiction favorites, I fear the series is starting to buckle under the weight of too many contrivances.

I would be such an easy mark for Kaldar Mar, he would just smile his seductive smile and I would hand him over all my worldly goods. Granted, he may be disappointed as he will mostly come away with more books then he can carry and Xavier the Xbox but it is all there ripe for plucking. Luckily Audrey Callahan isn't as gullible as I am, so she would probably manage to keep her Xbox (if she had one) and most her books (I reckon Kaldar would take a few, just because he can) but, will she keep her he...more

2.5 stars. Maybe I'm a grouch, but I can't quite find three stars in this book. I liked Book 1 -- On the Edge -- much better, and Book 2 -- Bayou Moon, is my favorite so far, cuz I adored William the wolf, and Cerise was one impressive warrior. (Book 4 update: Steel's Edge is great, too.)
Characters:
Kaldar, the secret agent who works for the Mirror, and Audrey, a lock-picker par excellence who is forced to help Keldar. The boys J...more

When I pick up an Ilona Andrews book I start it knowing that I need to pay attention. Fate’s Edge, the third book in their Edge series, was no different. They immediately throw a lot of terms at you. You are introduced to the Edge, the Broken, the Weird, the Hand, the Mirror and so on. The first 100 pages of the book must be read slowly so you don’t miss any of the terms or what the Andrews are trying to show you to. Once you get past the initial info dump, as always, this team...more

The pacing of this one threw me off. The beginning was full of info-dump, which I never understand, because by book three 99% of the readers will know all this stuff already. I always tend to view info-dumping in the third book in a series as unnecessary and skim material.
Once the book got into gear, I was much more pleased. I enjoy Kaldar a great deal, and having George and Jack along for the ride was a lot of fun. I also appreciated that William and Cerise played a larger role in this book tha...more

Despite a low around the two third mark, I still enjoyed this book very much. I wonder who the next one is about? Off to check. And seriously, I can't be the only one hoping for a George and Jack book in the near future ...
The Edge series has turned a corner for me with this book. Don't get me wrong - I enjoyed the first two. But in each installment, I felt like I had to work for it. Now, for the first time with this series, I was able to jump into the story with both feet from the beginning. Maybe it's because I am already familiar with the world building and many of the characters, but I don't think so. I think it's more of a change in focus. This book felt much more honed in on our main couple and their adventu...more
I really, really wanted to LOVE this book, having been an Ilona Andrews fan for a long time. I did LIKE it, but I didn't LOVE it. Partly because I missed William Wolf from the 2nd book, Bayou Moon, but mostly because I had a difficult time relating to Audrey & Kaldar. I have a real problem with thieves, and even though the slant was towards stealing from the Bad Guys, or stealing to save their family/country, they still did a lot of remorseless stealing from folks who were probably innocent...more
When Fate’s Edge was announced, I’ll admit I wasn’t jumping for joy. While I adore Ilona Andrews, and have read just about everything the husband and wife team have written, I wasn’t sure I would enjoy a story primarily focused the Bayou Moon bad boy, Kaldar. I have nothing against him - I’m just not very drawn to roguish protagonists with a penchant for gambling.

review to come. Here's the short version: Wow.
Wow. Kalder Mar is Cerise's cousin and he's got a vendetta against the Hand. He's now an agent for the Mirror and he's set a task to recover a stolen item before the Hand can get their mitts on it. Audrey Callahan is an Edger, currently living in the Broken, who has the magical talent of opening locks. Audrey is the first of the female heroines of The Edge series to not be close to her family. She was born into a family of thief's and wants nothing to do with them now. She is finally doing what she wants with her life, staying above the law and taking care of herself in a respectable way when Her father shows up one night and talks her into one last heist that pulls her into drama that she wants desperately to get out of and put right at the same time. FATE'S EDGE also takes place a big chunk...more

Fate’s Edge was even more awesome then the first two books in this series.
I like it better, because Kaldar and Audrey were so fun and flirted and teased all the time. And I like good cons. I think I’ve watched all movies about different frauds and con schemes. So what can be better then reading a book about two con artists who are the best in their work?
Also I always loved the boys. Jack and George became older and more interesting. So while in previous books I was trying to hurry through their...more

I loved this book. It is the third book in the Edge series and this series just keeps getting better and better. What happens when a conman who works for the Mirror (a spy agency) needs to work with a conwoman to retrieve a weapon that has fallen into enemy hands? A lot of adventure, humor, a touch of romance, and great worldbuilding. I highly recommend this book. I highly recommend anything written by Ilona Andrews.

I love the Kate Daniels series by Ilona Andrews. They are great fun and an mazing world. The Edge series also by our lovely married duo is a little more heavy with the romance which I don’t mind because there is actually a great story within. I will say that they are a bit formulaic, but then again so are all romantic comedies. Each of the books centers on a character we have met previously in the series, similar to the way Melissa Marr’s Wicked Lovely series is all in the same universe, just di...more
I checked the ratings on Goodreads and was surprised to see that this was rated over four stars. I can't decide if I want to give it two stars or three.
Kaldar was hot. I like Aubrey, even though she wasn't much of a fighter. And don't forget Kalder, he's hot. And oh boy, I didn't think it was possible but Kaldar just got hotter! Haha, go back and reread the first half if you don't believe me. You'll lose count at how many times Aubrey calls Kaldar hot. I was laughing out loud after a while.

Kaldar Mar is a spy for the Mirror and we met him in the previous book in this series, Bayou Moon. Kaldar is a engaging rougish theif who knows he is good looking and has a magical ability to have things go his way when he makes bets. He also has Blue flash magic and can go into a crazy frenzy when he fights--very lethal. Aubrey Callahan is a magical theif that can pick any lock with her magic. Fate’s Edge is the third installment of The Edge series written by the husband and wife writing team that is Ilona Andrews. This is the first series that I’ve read from them and so far I’ve liked the books, but didn’t love them. There was always one thing or other that made it impossible for me to get over that hump. Well what can I say, with Fate’s Edge I have finally made it over that hurdle!

I love The Edge stories. Now three books strong, Ilona Andrews has proven she is no one hit series wonder. Her Kate Daniels series is simply Magical. You couldn't wish for a stronger fantasy novel. Yet I think I like The Edge stories even more. The plot is incredible. There is a world called the Broken which is basically our world here and now. There is also a world called Weird which is a magically powerful world. Between them lies a thin strip called the Edge. The tales revolve around the peop...more
I picked up this book randomly when I went shopping for Brent Week’s The Way of the Shadows (which I will review this coming Saturday). As it turns out, Fate’s Edge is the third book in her Edge Series (I don’t know how I keep ending up with the third book of a series… I really don’t). In any case I had no prior knowledge of this particular author, nor did I realize I had the third book of a series until a friend recognized the book (and promptly borrowed it). Luckily for me, the novel still mad...more
I’m going to review all three of these at once. And I’m going to admit right up front, going into this, I was an idiot for waiting so long to read them.

Yet another solid showing by the Andrew's team. While I wasn't so enthusiastic about reading Kaldar's book I was happy to be back in the world of the The Edge. The plot was extremely convoluted which, in some cases, can detract from the overall impact of the book. However Andrews was able to successfully weave multiple mini-plots together to wrap up everything in a nice bow.

One of my favorite reads, this has THE best description I have ever read, telling you everything you need to know about a character without a single reference to hair or eye color. From page 92 of the paperback I have:
This man was a rogue, not because circumstances forced him to be a criminal but because he was born that way. He was probably conning his mother out of her milk the moment he could grin. He'd charm the clothes off a virgin in twenty minutes. And if the poor fool took him home, he'd...more

Latest in the series of 'Edge' books - the Edge is the place existing between the Broken (our world - set in USA) and the Weird (warped mirror world with strong magic). We meet our old friends, particularly the two boys Jack and George, and encounter new ones in the two central characters Audrey and Kaldar - a grifter and a thief who are in many ways two sides of the same coin. I enjoyed the relationship between these two, how they meet as frenemies and come to work together as allies. Although...more
Ilona Andrews is one of my favourite authors, hands down. They (it’s a husband and wife team) create such delightful stories, filled with great characters, amazing plot lines, and crisp dialogue. They write two urban fantasy series -- the Kate Daniels books and the Edge series -- among other things. (You may remember my gushing from when I dared you to read Magic Slays, the first book in their Kate Daniels series.)

Third in the Edge paranormal-romance series involving a magickal dimension that exists alongside an alternate Earth called the Broken.

Third book in the series set in the Edge / Weird / Broken.
Overall I would give this 3.5 stars. I liked the writing and the characters and the world building was also interesting.
We have the return of George, Jack, William and Cerise as well as Rose and Declan (briefly)
I liked the heroine Audrey, who has been screwed over by her family and is trying to make an honest life for herself but gets caught up in pretty horrific events.

“Jack didn’t fully get Jesus. Audrey tried to explain it, and he could repeat it back to her, word for word, but he still didn’t comprehend most of it. The best he could gather was that Jesus lived long ago, told people to be nice, and they killed him for it. At the end, he asked who was Jesus’ necromancer and if he was in the Bible, then Kaldar couldn’t stop laughing and had to sit down.”
