Turnabout is fair play, a theme that is played out nicely in this book. When Finn rescues and feeds a seal that has become tangled in fishing nets, the seal never forgets his kindness. She returns to his village in the form of a girl named Sheila, and even though some townspeople are superstitious about Sheila and think she'll bring bad luck, she and Finn play together. My favorite book about Selkies is Greyling, but I enjoyed this short tale about Finn and his shapeshifting seal friend.
Understated and sweet, it's the illustrations that sparkle here.
