The really remarkable thing about GURPS is that its source books are written by experts in the field. While most systems would be satisfied with a series of number tables and character rules, GURPS books act as historical and encyclopedic texts for a player, providing feel, concept, and inspiration. Before taking Judo, I read the entry in this book, which provided me with enough of the history of the art to impress my sensei.
