I really enjoyed this mainly because of the heroine, she was tough as nails who made no apologies for what she had to do to give a good home for her son, she could take on the world, out cuss anyone and didn't allow anyone to intimated her. She respected herself even if she had no education and got pregnant at sixteen, she had led a tough life with a rodeo dad who kicked her out but she never wallowed instead brushed it off and moved on.
The hero had never met anyone like her, the eldest and lawy...more

What a way to be surprised! I just felt in love with this brothers way too hard, I can't seem to get enough! I haven't been this gleefully and emotional about a series in this genre for way too long. It's not that it is one of those reads that will take your breath away because it's too emotive to bare, it's just a short and realistic type of read. I adore the books in this series because they are fun, fast paced and the romance is AMAZING. I never liked Nora Roberts till I started this series,...more

I read this series many years ago and loved it! When it became available as ebooks, I had to buy them again. I haven't made my way through all of them, but the first two have not disappointed me as rereads. (And I remember the other two being even better!) It surprises me that they don't feel dated too!

Like The Return of Rafe MacKade, this second book in the series has a little bit of the paranormal. The hero and the heroine both sense ghostly presences in the woods near the cabin in which the heroine lives, and despite everything I like about Nora Roberts' writing —her knack with the omniscient point of view and the development and weaving of sequel characters —I still find the paranormal, otherworldly elements of her stories kind of a weak part of her books. It seems almost like a crutch, an...more
This one was as good as the first. A good, solid contemporary romance. Not too deep and not to shallow either.
Jared MacKade has always been full of questions. He always thought everything through from both sides, so it wasn´t that surprising that he became a lawyer. After a brief stunt at marrying, he now lives back at the MacKade farm after the divorce. When he gets a call from a lawyer friend that wants him to contact a client, Jared never thought that he would meet the woman of his life.

This is a pretty early Nora. The MacKade brothers live on/near what was once a Civil War battleground, so that history--stories about what happened back then, and maybe even ghosts--play a part in the stories. The hero is a divorced lawyer who's come home to build his practice there. Heroine is a single mom who's finally found a place to call home and raise her son. She's prickly and determined not to depend on anyone. He's got issues with pride (duh), though he does seem to work through them pr...more
Jared MacKade and Savannah Morningstar's book was absolutely unforgettable. After finishing Rafe's story, I didnt' think this series could get any better but I was wrong. "The Pride of Jared MacKade" took me from one end of the emotional spectrum to the other. Reappearances by characters from the first book add so much more to this story, along with an adorable little boy you'll cheer and hope that his dreams come true. There are so many wonderful conversations in this book that tug at your hear...more
This second book in her series was okay. I didn't really like Jared. He was really hard on the Savannah at times and I cringed when he would interrogate her so much about her past. I really didn't like him at times. I felt sorry for Savannah and wondered why she continue to forgive him for his cruel intrusion into her past. I'm hoping the 3rd book will redeem the series because I really liked the first one and I love the brothers and am curious to see what happens to the other two brothers. Howe...more
Better than the first one. Maybe because we have an heroine with a strong story behind. He tries to understand her but he fails because he's a lawyer, everything should be black or white and with her he cannot figure out the good and the bad.
I love Mackade family, they are caring and strong and they are ready to protect each other. Besides there's a continuum with the first story and we cannot appreciate developments in MacKade family.
I'm already on 3rd book, which is about an abused woman and...more

FOR JARED, WOULD IT BE COLD PRIDE -- OR WARM BRIDE? Ha, more like cold bride.
I hated this book because I can't stand Savannah. I usually enjoy NR.
Savannah is headstrong and independent - that's great. I dislike her because her reasoning is constantly flawed, she can be incredibly immature, prejudiced, some of her past actions example poor parenting, all in all quite negative.

I really liked Jared, not Savannah so much until the end. I really didn't like the way she was so closed off, I know it was part of the storyline, but it really didn't endear her to me. I wanted to walk away sooner. And this may seem picky or strange, but the fact that he 'courted' her so long before even hinting about having sex seemed weird for a supposed bad boy. No explanation of it either, as to why he took his time with her. It just felt off until the last third, and then I really enjoyed...more
Savannah is a great character. You know she doesn't 'need' Jared to survive (which chokes him something fierce, hence the dynamics of their relationship), but she is a better person with him, and needs to let go of her independence to be with him.
Jared, as the oldest, has always been a caretaker, problem solver, straight guy. He is most surprised he falls in love with an 'ex-exotic dancer with a tattoo'. He has to learn to let go of her past. He can't go back and fix it, and she doesn't want him...more

I loved all 4 MacKade Brothers books but this one's my favourite. Why?Heroine Savannah Morningstar just plain works for me. She's unapologetic about her past, lives life on her own terms and knows when she's had enough. The scene where she lets Jared know that she's finished with him (without using words)works so well(and induces extreme writer envy)! Besides, Jared does good grovel. And the relationship between the brothers... that works too.
This book was part of the Quartet, The MacKade Brothers. The books are short and I read them one right after the other--like one big novel. Several themes run through this series, four devastatingly handsome brothers, rough trouble makers when growing up now productive members of small community, connection to the land and the ghosts that remain from the civil war. Thoroughly satisfying Nora Roberts Romance series.
What an awesome quick read.... I could not put the book down... started last night... finished tonight.. I just fell in love with jared MacKade's and Savannah Morningstar. The love he eventually admitted he had for not only her but her son Bryan was just heart warming.. I am really loving the whole spirit and ghost take on this as well.. it is as if the spirits are within them.. just loved it.
I really loved this book. Savannah was such a great character. I especially loved the scene were she trashed Jareds possessions in a blaze of glory in front of his brothers. Maybe I loved this scene a little more than I shoud have because my husbands name is Jared, and it would be nice to spite him like that, haha. Overall, great book and would recommend to romance readers who like fiesty characters.

I loved this book. Mainly because of Savannah, hard as nails and never needed anyone. She took care of herself and her son just fine. I love the Mackade brothers. As good as this book is the Devin Mackade story is my favorite. Good read and would recommend to people who love a good romance. Am really starting to love Nora Roberts books and plan on buying lots more!
This is one book I have on my keeper shelf. I have the four McKade brothers but jared is my favourite. I love Savannah Morningstar. She is tough, gutsy and unapologetic about her lifestyle or her past. And when she runs up against a drop-dead gorgeous McKade whose pride equalls hers...you can expect sparks to fly and combust the pages.
This was a rather sweet story with sassy characters. Divorced lawyer and former bad boy finds himself instantly attracted to the new single mother in town when he visits her to do a legal favor for a colleague. Before you know it, he's courting her and playing ball with her son. Could a permanent arrangement be far off?

The second in a set of four about the MacKade brothers and like the first in the series, it has little depth. In this one it is the heroine who is always angry, so it's hard to get a handle on Savannah. Bryan and Connor and Emma, the children, are wonderful, however.

Maybe I would have enjoyed this if I had read it when it was first published. But my 2011 self did not find anything about this book enjoyable. I had planned on reading the entire MacKade series but after just two, I've changed my plans.
The second of the MacKade brother books, the story of Jared was, unfortunately, my least favorite. Someone had to be it and - my apologies, Jared - it was him. Jared is a great character, it is his HEA that pulled me out of the story. Characters that are brash just to get under your skin, or hot-headed because they think self-control is unnecessary, tend to annoy me. Savannah annoys me. But for some reason, Jared falls for her. Don't skip this story though if you have a desire to read on for Dev...more
