I couldn’t help but think of the lyrics to Michael Buble’s Home when I read this book: “May be surrounded by, A million people I, still feel all alone… I just wanna go home.” This is how Tina Rebar portrays her hero Ryan Christienson. He’s insanely famous, woman all over the world worship him, and yet he’s the most lonely man on the planet. I couldn’t help but think of the lyrics to Michael Buble’s Home when I read this book: “May be surrounded by, A million people I, still feel all alone… I just wanna go home.” This is how Tina Rebar portrays her hero Ryan Christienson. He’s insanely famous, woman all over the world worship him, and yet he’s the most lonely man on the planet. His dream is to just a have a nice quiet weekend with his family at home, without being bothered. I love how she shows this side of being a celebrity.

Taryn is a smart business woman who likes her quiet life, and she’s been burned in relationships so she’s a little standoffish when it comes to men. She is a paradox. She’s strong and confident, completely self sufficient in life, but totally insecure in relationships (mostly because of her experiences). Her insecurities are tested to the limits when she get involved with a man who literally has women throwing themselves at him (that would test any woman’s self esteem). Not to mention how hard it would be having the public constantly making nasty comments about you.

Still, despite the difficulties of having a relationship that is under constant public scrutiny, they fall madly in love. I read a lot of romances from YA to erotic and I have to say, Love Unscripted had the sweetest love scene I’ve ever read. I had butterflies flitting around my belly when I read it. It was amazing. I loved watching Taryn and Ryan struggle, it was so emotional. What I loved the most though is how Taryn treats Ryan like a person, not a celebrity. There is a scene where Ryan burps and I love her reaction. “If your fans only knew!” I teased, giving him a nudge with my hip. “It would definitely blow your whole mysterious, sexy image thing! That was weak, by the way. I’m hardly impressed. I give that one a 2.7.” “See, this is why I love you. You don’t judge my foulness, you grade it!” These normal moments between them were fun.

I loved this book and I can’t wait for book2. I definitely recommend this book to anyone who loves a good romance.

What a refreshing read! Love Unscripted is not a lust at first sight romance story. And thank goodness for that! There are too many of those reads out there.

Review of 2nd reading, one year later: First thing you need to know about Love Unscripted by Tina Reber, besides that I absolutely loved it even more the second time, is that it is L-O-N-G. This is not a bad thing! Not at all. This is a like reading a book trilogy all in one. And I would have been happy and satisfied if it ended after Love Unscripted. Where to begin?

I think I'm going to put this book on the shelf for the time being. I'm at 30% and having a difficult time staying focused or interested in the story.

I think this is one of those books that work when it's cold outside, you're snuggled in a blanket, and in the mood for a long, well written, but drawn-out story. That's not the mood I'm in right now.

I bounced around quite a bit between 3 and 4 stars with Love Unscripted. I did like it, I thought it was better than merely ok (which is 3 stars to me) but there were quite a few problems I had that in the end weighed down my rating.

The easiest way I can boil it down in my review is by the simple pros and cons. I'll start out with the cons... The book was seriously long, way too long for the subject matter. I found myself skimming quite a bit, especially towards the middle. A lot of subject matter was introduced and instead of one major conflict that led to a solo climax there were several that were portrayed as all "major" hurdles in the main couple's relationship, but because of the quantity of them they all weren't (and I don't think could possibly be) delivered in a manner that caught my breath in a "oh no, what are they going to do now" kind of way. Instead I found my self sarcastically thinking "oh god, another one". The other con I had that to me was pretty major were the amount of exclamation marks used to punctuate dialogue as well as Taryn's thoughts. An ! is used to emphasize a dramatic and serious point. It often means to me that someone is yelling, or conveying a very strong emotion. The number of ! used was big distraction to me. At first I read them as a raised voice or a heightened emotion. Then after a bit everyone was yelling at one another in my head and it threw off the tempo of the book, so I tried to ignore them. But all that did was make me feel like I was missing something because I was trying to re-train my brain to not emphasize a punctuation mark that has been in bedded in me since I first learned how to read. I shouldn't have to do that. An author should lead the reader through the book smoothly and as the reader I shouldn't have to compensate in my mind for what I felt was mis-punctuating. I've read entire books that had maybe a total of a dozen !. Love Unscripted had about 3, 4 sometimes more ! per page. Overall my cons boiled down to the book needing some editing.

My pros were pretty big pros... The main characters Taryn and Ryan were both excellent characters. Well developed and fleshed out and I found myself liking and caring about them. All though at many times Taryn irritated me and did some things that I thought were unbelievably stupid, she reacted like a real woman would. And I felt drawn to her and understood her insecurities. Ryan and Taryn's relationship was built on love and it showed in everything they did for each other. Ryan being Hollywood's newest "it" heart throb and Taryn being a (semi) normal everyday woman (I say semi-normal because she was often told how beautiful she is by complete strangers. I don't think that happens very often to "normal" everyday pub owners). Ryan's stress at how he handled the media, paparazzi and screaming female fans seemed real to me. The author really made me open my eyes to what these "A list" Hollywood types go through on probably a daily basis. Though this was an extreme situation, I thought quite frequently of the tabloids I see when in line at the grocery store. One will say "Angelina finally sick of Brad's cheating and calls their relationship quits" then right next to that magazine is one with the headline "Brad and Angie finally tie the knot. Sources say they've never been more in love". The way our media exploits these people is disgusting. But on the flip side of that I guess that's the price one pays to be famous.

All in all I did enjoyed Love Unscripted and I will gladly be reading the next installment in the trilogy. I realize that this is a self published book and I respect anyone with the gift of being able to create. I simply wished that this particular book had been edited more which could have definitely molded this into at least a 4 if not a 5 star read for me. (less)

Overly polite, quirky and enthusiastic people freak me out. This is similar to the dialogue throughout the eternally long book:

I read this book based on all the great reviews.. I'm still trying to figure out the hype. It dragged on forever, touching on every possible thing that *could* have happened. I was not expecting a wild roller coaster ride but thank God I hung in there! A couple of times I was ready to close the book but I KNEW Ryan was the reason to keep on reading. This started out slow, got okay and got slow again.

Honestly I liked the characters all of them; Ryan, Taryn and her friends. They weren't bad, the story wasn't bad, it just wasn't for me. It was long, too long in my opinion. I quite enjoyed how the story began and how the introduction to the characters was written; especially how Ryan and Taryn met. Certainly, their individual and remarkable physical appearances account for the first hint of mutual attraction, but it is soon apparent that this is but a starting point to so much more between them. Ryan is absolutely terrorized by rabid fans and hassled by paparazzi. Taryn offers him sanctuary and soon becomes his home. His peace. His comfort. Her normalcy and empathy are the calm from the storm of his tempestuous life. I really enjoyed the way their relationship developed: their conversations; the gentle elbow bumps, finger pokes, and foot nudges; playing poker and pool; quoting movie lines; time at the lake; sharing meals; and how all those things made the beginning of their sexual relationship an understandable and honest next phase. Both Ryan and Taryn's considerate behavior is indicative of their respective upbringings. I thought the author did a remarkable job conveying the characters' emotions, how they dealt with the difficulties of their opposing lifestyles, how they strived for honesty and openness with each other, and how they fought through opposition and heartbreak for a shared future.

The combination of the engaging story and characters with whom I could empathize made this a dream read! I read the entire 670 pages within one day and would have been pleased to continue. Fortunately, those of us eagerly awaiting the next installment in Ryan and Taryn's story have "only" to wait until August 31, when Love Unrehearsed is released.

Love Unscripted started great. I love stories about commoners dating Hollywood stars. It's like a modern version of Cinderella. However, Tina Reber messed it up by writing a freaking 600 plus pages book. Lady, there isn't much to tell about that kind of romance.
My problems with the book so far:

1. Everything that happened to Ryan seemed to be completely exaggerated. It was like Tina grabbed every negative thing that can happen to movie stars, increased it by ten fold, and...more * REVIEW WITH SPOILERS *

Love Unscripted started great. I love stories about commoners dating Hollywood stars. It's like a modern version of Cinderella. However, Tina Reber messed it up by writing a freaking 600 plus pages book. Lady, there isn't much to tell about that kind of romance.
My problems with the book so far:

2. Taryn was too fucking perfect. The girl was a savvy businesswoman, she was musically talented, she could also make stained glass art, and she was also an interior designer on the side. Oh, and lets not forget about her magical touch with children and parents. I swear that I wouldn't be surprised if little animals started to follow her around while she sang. Was Tina trying to say the only way a movie star could fall for a regular person was if she was fairy tale princess?

3. Ryan moving in with Taryn. I get that he didn't want to stay at the hotel, but couldn't he rent a more secluded house like his friend Cal did instead inflicting that kind of harassment to Taryn and thus affecting her business? What did he think was going to happen once his whereabouts were known? Talk about unrealistic.

4. Taryn not using protection with Ryan. When it happened the first time I was, what the fuck? What kind of messed message Tina was trying to send there? And then Taryn think it's a freaking good sign that Ryan didn't use protection with her because it meant he didn't care if she got pregnant. Hello! What about STD?

5. Taryn giving the time of the day to Kyle. She said he gave her bad vibes and she still allows him to go to her pub? Her excuse that she runs a public place is completely bogus. She could have kicked him out anytime.

6. Taryn's pregnancy. I'm sick and tired of seeing woman getting pregnant in books because they took antibiotics and they didn't know it would counter effect the pill. Who the hell doesn't know that? Give me a break.

7. Taryn's insecurities and trust issues. Honestly, there isn't a guy in the world who would put up with that crap. It was exhausting. Okay, Ryan was also jealous but at least he didn't keep beating around the bush like she did.

The unbelievable drama at the end was the cherry on the cake but weird enough, I didn't mind that. Love Unscripted could have been way better if Tina hadn't stretched the story so long. However, I'm still giving it 3 stars and will probably read the following book.(less)

Ok so what is with the high ratings Goodreads?? I have never felt so let down by reviews and I'm still struggling to understand the love for this book.

Love Unscripted was like, literary blue balls. The book is 670 pages long and there is no climax to the story until about 85% into the book. What the hell?!?! Anyways, I want to tell you this book is Adult but I think that mature teenagers can handle it, also if you are uncomfortable with sex and things like that, this is not your book.

Snagged a copy of this from NetGalley.

I feel like, buried beneath the typos (discrete & discreet are two different things!!!), uneven pacing, and overwrought descriptions & events (his & hers stalkers!), there is a really good story.
