In my review of the first book in this series, I mentioned that they are too Christian... everyone lives in a bubble. This book is not that way fortunately. Instead Bailey leaves her Christian bubble and begins making a life for herself in the secular world of Broadway. That is a nice change.
But what does happen is that almost every prayer is answered in the perfect way and everything goes right for all the Christians, as long as they pray. Bailey almost loses her dream job, but with God's help...more

Now that Bailey Flanigan is living her dream of dancing on Broadway life should be great, so why does she feel so out of place? She is struggling to keep up with the cast and can't shake the feeling that the other actors don't respect her talent. Did she just get this role because of her recent movie premiere and how is she supposed to live out her faith in a city that is so filled with sin? The only girl who has been friendly to her, Chrissy, is obviously struggling with anorexia, and Bailey do...more
In Learning, I was glad to see Bailey finally have a few flaws in her life. She learns that life isn’t so grand and perfect after all. And there is a lot more work to the Broadway job that she ever thought possible. But she still seems like a child that has been so protected in life that she has no idea what really happens in the world. She was certainly exposed though learning some things about her co-workers. She didn’t stay down on life very long though, because Brandon comes along and sweeps...more
I have enjoyed every KK book I have ever read. Learning is no exception. The characters in this book and many others are some of my favorites, Bailey especially. To watch her grow from a young teenager into a strong young woman off on her own in New York is quite exciting. It almost felt like I was there with her as she started her job and learned the routines. I love the special relationship she has with her mom. I think every teenage girl and mom should read these books and desire to have a re...more

I can't believe I am so in love with Karen Kingsbury.
This novel was the last of 44(?) novels of hers that I have read in about 10 weeks. I was averaging between 3-5 per week and have spent at least one million dollars on her work (more like $500, but it might as well have been a million!)
I love Karen Kingsbury.

Karen Kingsbury is one of those writers who always seems to write a good book. She uplifts and inspires while allowing us a peek at the lives of the characters she creates, and with her series books she always leaves us wanting more.

MY REVIEW
I was thrilled to have a chance to catch up with Bailey's family once again. Yes, as always i have to remind myself that Bailey and all the characters she interacts with are just fiction. Karen must live, eat and breathe with these fictional people, because she brings them across as totally realistic characters in realistic situations. i cry, laugh, agonize and dream with them. i am just a little angry right now because the book is finished, and it left me with questions i know i have...more
I am a part of Karen Kingsbury's Team KK, which means I get the book before its publication date in order to review it and promote it. Karen asks that we not give away plot details, so here's the review I shared with Karen.

When it comes to Christian authors, few even come close to the popularity or prominence of Karen Kingsbury. Not since Jerry Jenkins and Tim LaHaye composed a multi-volume interpretation of Biblical prophecy that sold in the millions has a Christian author gained such praise and renown. Learning, book number two in the Bailey Flanigan series, is typical Karen Kingsbury: all of the drama, romance, and Christian content that her fans have come to expect. I did feel that the book moved a bit too fas...more

The characters in this series are no strangers to Kingsbury fans. Bailey and Cody had recurring roles in four previous series along with the ever present Baxter family (who also make appearances in this series). Bailey and Cody are maturing as young adults and beginning their respective careers on Broadway and coaching football, which propels their personal lives in different directions.

Karen Kingsbury did it again! I love how this book emphasizes the learning process that everyone goes through during this book. Bailey and Cody aren't the only ones learning new things about themselves and their walk with Christ. Ashley and Landon Blake also learn his true diagnosis and what it will cost him and mean for his future. I love the struggles that everyone experiences and I love how Bailey realizes that she will fail God at times, but ultimately its how we deal with our failures that...more
I still feel as though Karen Kingsbury is coming off a bit preachy or at least heavy-handed on the verses and references to God (yes, I know this is Christian literature but one of the characters in this series said something like "you have to show God in your life not just talk about it and I don't feel the showing as much as the telling in this series). However, I like that Cody and Bailey are both moving forward with their lives instead of being hung up on not being together.

This second installment in the Bailey Flanigan series is even better than the first one. The characters are dear to my heart, feel like friends, and watching them learn through their life experiences is wonderful. It isn't easy as a Christian to know what God's will is for you in every situation, and this comes across very realistically. The reactions of others to a Christian who wants to serve the Lord in everything they do is very accurate in comparison to what I've experienced myself. The onl...more
This book took awhile to get thru. Bailey had moved to New York and was dating Brandon Paul, a well know hollywood actor from the Unlocked movie. Cody was dating Cheyenne and doing great as the new head coach for football in a small town. Everyone seems to have moved on and things are going well. Landon is no longer fighting fighers do to COPD. Most of the story was about the above characters. Bailey was doing Broadway shows and learning how tough that was. She was living with a Christian couple...more
In Learning Bailey and Cody are still denying their feelings for each other. Bailey is leaning that life isn’t always easy. When God gives us a chance to share our faith of pray for someone we need to do it immediately. We may never be given another chance. Things on Broadway aren’t going great. There is talk among her cast mates that Bailey only got he part because of her role in the movie with Brandon Paul.
Bailey won’t call/text Cody because she feels he needs to make the next move.

This is the 2nd book in the Bailey Flanigan series by Karen Kingsbury. I do enjoy reading her books and it's always nice to have another installment with ongoing characters that have spanned over several series. I liked this book better than the first book of this series as there didn't seem to be as much back and forth angst between Bailey and Cody. This book still hints and the possibility of them as a couple eventually, but was a little more subtle about it. I did enjoy the storyline of Baile...more
Well, so far it's good, I mean it IS Karen Kingsbury, my favorite author, but Bailey and Cody are still apart and it doesn't look good for being resolved in this book. And now there are new people trying to get Bailey and Cody to fall for them, and I just don't like it. The whole way this story has been set up since Bailey was first introduced into these book series, sets it up for Bailey and Cody to be together. If they don't end up together by the end of this series (2 more books), it's going...more
As a long time Karen Kingsbury fan, I am thankful for her writing.
Within the pages of each book Karen tries to bring each reader closer to Jesus. You fall in love with her characters and they become close like dearest friends, reading the series fills you in on how their lives are going and you find yourself laughing, crying and praying with these characters. Interesting book, but as it is part of a series, an incomplete story. The concept of a team earning $3,000 from a donor for someone in need if they come in first is unique. Is there any athlete with a charity like this? It sounds like something that could only happen in a book. The character of Brandon, now that he is a Christian, is a little too good to be true. Cheyenne is another character with very few flaws. However, Bailey's being chosen because of her fame sounds very realistic. It's very...more

As always KK is amazing! I love this story and will go crazy until the next one is released.
Bailey is what every mom hopes for their daughter. Definitely her mother Jenny Flanigan is what every mom strives to be.
I love the inspiration KK gives her readers. Of course, Christ is always the best example, I love reading about families and our everyday experiences can tie in with the Flanigan family!

This series of books is a tricky one for me to review. On the one hand, they are kind of cheesy with sweeping and dramatic story lines (every crisis under the sun seems to find its way to these characters) and Kingsbury writes about these families with the same epic drama usually reserved for Old Testament patriarchs.
And yet . . .
I read all 4 in a week.
So obviously they weren't that bad :)
The best way to describe them is probably "Christian soap opera." There is nothing inappropriate in the book...more

Karen is a great story teller. She has done another great job of sharing Bailey's life and struggles as she moves to New York to dance in Hair Spray. She touches on all our favorites from books past but makes sure if this is your very first KK book that you aren't lost. (not something to be taken lightly)

I liked this second book better than the first one in the Bailey Flanagan series. However, there still seems to be a bit of the "too much" factor--where too many things (either good or bad) happen to one family and those surrounding them. It doesn't feel realistic. I know it's fiction but it seems that there should still be a certain amount of realism. I think Karen Kingsbury is a very good story teller, but with this series it seems like she's trying too hard to make the God talk and story line...more
The characters of Kingsbury's first book in this series hooked me - in spite of the writing style and preachy-ness. I did enjoy this book more so than the first. Some of the things that happen seem to be a bit more realistic - not so "perfect" - in their resolution. After all, none of us lives in a perfect life. The part that left the biggest impact with me had to do with Bailey's conversations with Gerald and her quoting the verse in Timothy dealing with different types of sin - that no sin is...more
it is more a 3.75 than a 4. and this is just my opinion, but I am a girl that really dislikes football, and this book is a 50/50 split between Baileys story with Broadway and Codys football, and while a lot of what he was coaching is a good story, I could have done with just did they win or lose. I normally would have skimmed those parts but they were important for the story. so there is my 2 cents for the day. Karen always does an amazing job of character development, not to mention how many boo...more
Hmmmmmm...First, I love KK. She's written stories with characters that have inspired me and I've read most of her stuff. This one is better than Leaving and it's definitely titled correctly, as it's all about 'Learning'. More realistic than Leaving as far as the characters choices and I read it in 2 days. But it ended like I feared....somewhat disappointing to me but hidden amongst the words were seeds that lead me to hope that the love story does a 180 in the next one...guess we'll see in the f...more
