a few years ago, I read Mr. Monk Goes to Hawaii and enjoyed it quite a bit, which is rare for me with adaptations. So when I heard there was a Monk book that featured both Natalie and Sharona, I was intrigued.

I was also quite disappointed.

Goldberg, a veteran TV and book writer, allows himself too many cloying references to the fact that the actress who played Sharona left the show abruptly. They litter the first fifty pages so often that I almost stopped reading entirely More...

I have probably watched about half to two-thirds of the Monk television episodes, and generally like the show, but generally disliked some of the editorial choices made.

This novel is told from the point of view of Natalie, his assistant, and what is inside her head is generally a lot whinier and less competent than what's displayed on television.

This is counterbalanced by several hilarious scenes with Monk, though they are only really funny if you've watched about ten More...

I read this book very quickly, it's a good read and saw it at Barnes & Noble HAD to pick it up. This book is based on the show "Monk" by the same name. In the series, Monk who is a obsessive compulsive detective has OCD. He has to have things in a certain way or he just won't work. He often complains and bitches when things don't go his way, just like a child does.

I miss the series, if you ever watched the series on TV you will love this book since its pretty like watchin More...

I randomly walked by a "to be shelved" cart in the library, and this book caught my eye. I was immediately excited - I LOVE Monk and had no idea it became a book series! I originally thought this might just be a novelization of the show, but it's actually an all-new mystery - and a search on goodreads shows me there is about 20 of these brand-new Monk mysteries. I cannot WAIT to devour all of these. It's like discovering an entire season of Monk that I've never seen!

I had a really hard time getting through this one. I didn't really appreciate Sharona and Natalie's bickering throughout the majority of the book. This is the ONLY Monk book that I was glad to see end.

I recently started watching the Monk series in reruns on tv, so I was excited to learn that there was a novel series too. I picked this up at the library at random, not knowing which was the first book in the novel series. It references some earlier events on the show and in books, but not to the point where it doesn't stand alone. In this novel, Monk's first assistant Sharona has returned - her ex-husband Trevor is accused of murder. Monk's current assistant Natalie finds herself threatened by More...

I have become a fan of Monk (we even have all seasons of the series on DVD). When I discovered a Monk book series I couldn't wait to read it. It was well worth the wait and I am sure to buy the others in the series. The book moves quickly, is well written, and involves hilarious images of Monk being...well Monk.

This story involves the reemergence of Sharona, Monk's first assistant. Her husband has been accused of murder and she wants Monk to investigate. Natalie, his current assista More...

My wife and I love the TV show. We’ve introduced several people to it and everyone loves it. One of my favorite things about the show (and the other shows I like on USA Network) is that the characters are so strong and you know what they’ll do and not do. You know them like you know your friends or co-workers.

In this book… many of the characters act out of character and they speak out of character. It isn’t too bad with Disher, Captain, and Sharona, but especially poor regarding Monk a More...

From the beginning of this book you understand who is who. The author Lee Goldberg did an excellent job of showing the extreme case of Monk's over compulsive disorder. As the story goes on there are twists everywhere as you join the mystery of this great book. If you don't like mysteries you will now as Mr. Monk faces what may be a criminal who actually understands him and may even be smarter then him. Every character in the book as something special about them and Lee Goldberg expresses all of More...

I have mixed feelings about this one for a variety of reasons. I love the principal characters and enjoyed the interaction between Monk's assistants Natalie and Sharona. I loved how the book ended. But overall, the story was convoluted (purposefully, I suppose) and left me feeling yanked around too much. Although the scene in the church kept Monk true to his quirks and compulsions, it upset me. Thankfully, it did not end in outright sacrilege. Also, the depiction of a Catholic priest breaking th More...

I always knew that I liked Natalie's character over Sharona's but this book definitely proved it when I saw them side by side. I thought there was a little too much going on and it was hard to keep it up with the plot line in this one. It didn't seem to flow as well.

I love the show Monk. Always have, probably always will. So when it comes to the book adaptations of one of my favorite tv shows, let me say that I was a little nervous that they would've screwed what makes Monk...well, Monk. But surprisingly, Lee Goldburg manages not only to capture the spirit of Monk, but he also manages to create new story plots that I can easily imagine Adrian Monk trying to cope with, whether it be having Sharona come back or him taking Stollemeyer's job (but that's another More...

Sharona reappears and her husband is accused of murder. Before this mystery is wrapped up, she and Natalie have come to terms and Mr Monk has been his usual amazing self.

I am holding off reading the next chapter of this book because the killer is about to be revealed. I don't know who it is, and it makes me so mad that I can't figure it out. Is it Sharona, Monk's previous assisstant? There are two murders in this book seemingly unrelated. Except in the last chapter, it was revealed that the two murders are in fact related, and the common link in both of them is to try and bring down Mr. Monk. Who would want to do that? I finished the book. The killer didn More...

I noticed this new Monk book when doing some book shopping for our summer trip up to Oregon - Mich read it, but somehow I never got around to it. Well, I just did, and it sure was fun! I'm not much into reading books based on TV shows (some Star Wars books, OK, but those were based on a movie...) but it's alright every once in a while, I guess. The only problem is that my head kept trying to read the characters in their own voices, and it's kind of hard with some of them (Sharona specifically, f More...

The mystery itself and the way Monk solves it (with the help of his competing assistants) was as clever as expected. However, I was disappointed with the character of Monk himself. Part of the appeal of the television series is Monk's indescribable lovableness, in spite of his obsessions and impossible expectations. That lovableness simply doesn't come through in this book, leaving Monk self-centered and grouchy.

I fan enough to read another from this series to see if this phenomen More...

I'd recommend the book to anyone who enjoys the show and is looking for a book version.

The author has been a writer for the show, so the adaptation to book is pretty seemless. Like the show, you know or can easily guess who the murderer is, but the story is more about the unraveling of "here is how he did it" by the obssesive compulsive detective. Bringing back the old assistant Sheronna who abruptly left the show was also a nice tie-in.

This book had the potential to be the best of the series so far, but it fell flat. When I saw the title I was excited because I knew that the author was bringing back Sharona Flemming, Monk's original (and superior) assistant/nurse. Her part, however, was not as involved as I hoped it would be. The revelation at the end was also so-so. Monk's logic seemed sketchy at best and even after he presented his "evidence" and the killer confessed I still wasn't convinced. Also I guessed th More...

This was actually a fun read. Pretty light fare for a mystery, but actually almost like watching an episode of the show. It was kind of fun to see Sharona and Natalie together in Monk's space, but I think what was less believable was the two of them vying for the same job: as Monk's assistant.

The story was told in the first person POV, of Natalie's. It took a bit of getting used to. But all in all, it was just a fun, light read. Good for the beach, or traveling.
