In the words of Arnold's first major role, Conan:
"It's all you'll ever need."
This book is comprehensive. Seriously. It covers almost everything you need to know about form, function, and the role and interplay between working out, diet, supplements, injuries, and training routines. While other books may go more in depth, the breadth and width of this book's coverage is just staggering.

recommends it for:
anyone.
I originally purchased this, through the recommendation's of a friend, as a strictly reference book for different exercises. I ended up reading it from cover to cover! It is surprisingly well written and, though you get the sense there is some editing going on in the background, it really feels like Arnold is right there beside you, talking you through the different chapters in the book! His passion and excitement translate through the written word and you find yourself wanting to rush to the...more

The definitive--and most comprehensive--work on bodybuilding available, written by on of the most successful atheletes in the sport's history. If you're even a little bit serious about bodybuilding, buy this book. A very helpful reference that you will return to again and again.

Growing up, my dad was a powerlifter (like a body builder but focused on raw lifting power as opposed to sculpting the body into a perfectly symmetric form) so I pulled down his copy of Arnold's tome and poured over it. In college, I used it as a reference while lifting weights and now, years later, I have the revised edition on my bookshelf and refreshed my knowledge before I started lifting again this year.

Not as much an encyclopedia as a biography of Arnold and a summary of how bodybuilding got to where it is, that also touches upon the basics of most excercises.

A surprisingly enjoyable book! I never thought much of body building before, but I've developed an appreciation for it. It's incredibily exhaustive, and I could see it being useful to almost anyone with an above average interest in fitness. Arnold's personality is amazingly strong and comes through in every line in a really entertaining way.

Contrary to what most might think ... this is not just a bookd for iron heads. It is close to a kinesiology text for a med school student. Say what you want about Arnold, but he generally knows what he is talking about and in this case, it is simply a wealth of knowledge that you simply will not find anywhere else.

recommends it for:
anyone looking to get buff
After slogging through too many muscle mags, riddled with questionable supplement ads, this book was a refreshingly dense well of information on how to approach getting fit with weights. Who knew Arnold -- with the help of a co-authoer -- could be so engaging!

It has everything you need to know about bodybuilding. It is complete from the correct diet to the putting body oil and getting a tan during a competition. Will definitely help aspiring bodybuilders and shows a variety of work-outs.

In terms of bodybuilding (not politics) Arnold is my hero. Some of his methods I disagree with, but this is very informative and inspirational.

Not meant to be a page turning classic, but very effective as a true encyclopedia of bodybuilding and the history of the sport.
