Break Away (Away #1)

Tatiana Vila (Goodreads Author)
Ice Queen. That's what everyone calls Dafne at school. The girl with the striking looks of a Raven Princess but whose cold-steeled touch freezes everyone in her way. Her reputation works for her and she even likes it. People don't mess with her—except for her sister's infuriatingly handsome boyfriend, Ian, who loves pushing her subzero temper to its limits.

I recieved this book as a part of the Read 2 Review program.
Where I liked this authors other book, the Ylem, I didn't like this book very much. It wasn't a bad book and the things I didn't like were more personal and may not bother other readers. The characters were well developed ad the story was original, but something bugged me. First let me say the the book moved entirely too slow for me. I found myself skimming which isnt a good sign, then I would have to go back and re-read when I realized...more

This is the first book in Tatiana Vila's Away series. It's a paranormal book without the usual paranormal creatures. The story is about a 17 year old girl named Dafne, who has been deeply hurting since the loss of her parents. When her sister is one of several people who have fallen into a coma for no known reason, Dafne has a gut feeling that it is more than a virus that is to blame. One interesting question arises in this story – Where do you go when you dream?

This story is about 17-year old Dafne. She and her sister, Buffy, are still coping (or not coping, in the case of Dafne) with the loss of their parents. More often than not, they seem to take their pain out on each other. Dafne has earned herself the title of ‘Ice Queen’ at school thanks to her closed-off attitude and the air of bitchiness she's adopted.
A few people can see through Dafne's façade though, one of them being her...more
I can't put my finger on it, but I liked this book. It wasn't earth shattering or anything, but the paranormal concept was interesting. I also found myself really hoping things would happen between Ian and Dafne even though her sister is nice and doesn't deserve that... I just wanted it... Oh, and I wanted some action between Dafne and Andras... Yah, I wanted her to have both.. So not normal of me.
Another note, this author is pretty good with original creativity concerning the paranormal IMO. I...more

I enjoyed this book.
I loved the banter between Ian and Dafne- Ian's in love with her, it's obvious- and Buffy sometimes got on my nerves but all round it was good.
I want something to happen with her and that Adonis model look a like from that dream world. Seriously, I mean, the way she described him I'm picturing a fucking Zac Efron.

Dafne is content with her reputation as the Ice Queen, and most people in the town of Berryford have learned to keep their distance. The unfortunate exception is her twin sister Buffy’s infuriating boyfriend, Ian, who insists on pushing Dafne’s temper to its limits. Even with this irritation, her life is continuing in a comfortably predictable pattern, until she starts noticing many of her fellow high school students developing a glassy-eyed stare. When scores of people start dropping into comas...more
I got sucked into this story very quickly.Dafne was such a loveable character. I loved all her snark and quick wit.Its always nice to see a character that is not afraid to be themselves no matter if it makes them well liked or not. Dafne is such a positve character because she plays by her own rules. She alone made me want to continue reading this story. I loved the fierce protectiveness she had for her family. This story was well written with such vivid descriptions that made me really visualiz...more
Break Away by Tatiana Vila was a fantastic read from Read 2 Review. I found this book to be a refreshing read from what I have been reading in the past couple of months. While the story unfolds in a quick reading manner, the answers to questions within unfold in a juicy delicious slow way. Far from being annoying and an overused mechanism it is delightful. The plot was extremely fast paced and unwrapped in entertaining way. The characters were completely interesting filled with sharp and at time...more
This was an extremely entertaining read. I absolutely adored Dafne and her sarcastic and biting humor. After her parents’ death, she’d put a wall around herself, using sarcasm and bad attitude as a shield to not get close to anyone. However, Dafne can be nice if she tried, and we learn that she wasn’t always like this. Sure enough, she does become only kind of nicer later.

I like the premise and like others I felt that it really got good towards the end. I'm conflicted when it comes to Dafne, I liked her sarcastic wit and retorts regardless of the fact that it was a defensive mechanism. I didn't like the fact that she always seemed to contradict herself. It was almost as if she has no true personality. The whole thing with her sisters boyfriend was not needed for storys sake, I guess it was added in due to the cliche formula of having a love interest to keep peopl...more
Wholy Guacamole!! This book is Oh Em Gee. Beyond amazing! I'm so shocked this hasn't been discovered yet. I mean if the summary gave a better understanding of the book I bet this would be jumped all over on GR.
So let me summarize this epicness for you.
Dafane is known to everyone around her as Ice Queen due to the massive wall she is built around herself after her parents died in a plane crash. It's been two years since their death and Dafane copes the best way she can by pushing everyone away...more

Tatiana Vila writing is good her words flowed well and I found it pretty easy to read. The character descriptions in this book were good and you really got to know everyone in the story. The humour was excellent and I laughed at the Dafne’s sarcasm.

"Break away from the mayhem" seems like the absolute solution to getting away from all of life's problems. Many humans would say so unless they enter into a new dimension and can't find their way back.
Dafne has to find a way to bring her sister out of a coma and does so by entering into the dimension of Chimera. The chapters leading up to Buffy falling into a coma were somewhat rough and the weirdness going around the school was plainly stated.

Well, this book bored me out of my mind. The teenage drama going on between Dafne, Buffy and Ian was too much, honestly. I wish I had my teen years to compare with, but I was a dead quiet teenager, and back then the entire 'teenager' thing wasn't even in fashion.
The pace is so slow that I didn't even reach the supernatural part, so the book could have been a literary effort for all I know. What happened to the dogma that a thriller should start off thrilling, fantasy should start off fantasy-es...more

Once again, Tatiana Vila has blown me away! I love this book! It offers up new and unexplored (for me at least) territory. This book grabs you from the beginning and whisks you breathlessly all the way to the end. This is a read that you will have a hard time putting down. The characters are fully developed and so lovable. Tatiana Vila is definitely one of my new favorite authors. Between reading Break Away and The Ylem, I will be waiting with baited breath for the next books of both of these! T...more

This book was so bad
It's not even funny. So cliche. So stupid.
Who writes about a girl and her sister with a boyfriend, who the girl supposedly 'hates', but in the middle of the story when her sister is in a COMA she is making out with her sisters boyfriend.
What. The. Hell.
And you can figure out whats going to happen throughout the first time you meet Ian ((Her sisters boyfriend)) because of the stupid glances he always gives her and the 'Oh so nice' attitude he gives her when he goes too far....more
I read this thanks to read-to-review and I wouldn't have finished if I didn't have to post a review. I really, really hated Dafne for a good half of the book. I found her brattish, arrogant and hypocritical. I had some trouble with the prose and the editing too. That being said I'm glad I stuck with it because the last half of the book was good with a good ending. I liked the world of Chimera and the whole concept. It was original but I don't think I'll read the sequel.
Was very different then I thought it was going to be and was just to new age for me. Also for her sister's boyfriend to be cheating on her while in a coma with the main character was also just not right in my mind. The writing was good and the story was intriguing but the morals in the story was just something I couldn't get past. If you are into books about astral projection and achieving a higher state of consciousnesses then this is a book for you.
Break Away is an interesting paranormal series with no vampires, werewolves, angels or zombies. This review is very hard for me to write since I can't say I loved or hated it. My thoughts are very middle of the road. The idea of the story is unique, but it didn't really pull me in since the first half of the book, I was wishing that something would happen. Once things got moving, I was intrigued, but I don't know if I am interested enough to keep reading the series.
I liked it, but didn't love it. It was a new and interesting concept. I liked the characters and their chemistry, but something felt off to me. The writing got a little confusing when I read certain parts and I felt like there were times where I couldn't connect with the characters or they felt unrealistic. Those contentions aside, the book was rather interesting and I do look forward to seeing what happens next.
i just loved it! it was good more then good. it was fresh, there was no vampires, no shape shifters , no witches. it was good written and easy to read.it reminded me of Charles de Lint Newford saries. and there is some interesting things to learn from this book. so i'm definitely reading next book!
