Vinnie, of Vincent Plum Bail Bonds, has run up a gambling debt of $786,000 with mobster Bobby Sunflower and is being held until the cash can be produced. Nobody else will pay to get Vinnie back, leaving it up to Stephanie, office manager Connie and file clerk Lula to raise the money if they want to save their jobs. Being in the business of tracking down people, they have a...more

frankly, i don't know why i'm putting myself through this. masochistic urge to see if evanovich will finally put us out of our misery? i swear, if she goes all the way to 20 i'm going to start writing her hate mail.

**

turned out the audiobook gods didn't want me to put myself through this either, a few tracks in the 2nd disc squelched to a halt and i'm letting myself off the hook. here's what happened before i quit:

1. lula eats donuts
2. lula shoots at pe...more

I know I'll read this because I've read all of them, but I read the first 2 chapters online last weekend and I was not impressed. I've read so much better stuff from people who can't get published that this reheated mix from Evanovich seems especially unfair. Hopefully I'll feel differently after I've read the whole book.

Well, I didn't. Same ol' stuff. I know I used to like Stephanie and care about her. Now it just seems like nothing happens. There was a point where she was in a car,...more

Worse than the last book. Don't waste your time. Not that you'll spend a lot of time reading--the book was printed with large margins & big print to disguise the fact that there isn't much book. Took me 90 minutes to read it. Nor is there much of a plot. Vinnie's been kidnapped. Hard to believe anyone would want to save a sleazebag but Stephanie, Connie, & Lula do & it's the same-old, same-old. Ditto with Stephanie's relationships with Ranger & Morelli. Even the usual car crash is tired & old. A...more

Yes, I just gave all 16 of these books 3 stars. No, I didn't just read them all in a row. I just read the 16th one while on a plane (er, I forget which one, I've been on a lot of planes this week - 8, including one transcon). It took me about an hour. I really like these books even though they all have exactly the same plot:

-Stephanie is super cute and hot (despite eating only donuts and fried chicken) and all the guys want her, even though she thinks she is mostly average
-Althoug...more

Much Better then the last book! I went and re-read the Plum series before starting this book. I wanted to go back and remember why I loved this series so much. This book was so much better then #15. It had the laughs the intense scenes with Ranger, and of course Morelli. But it's the Ranger that sells this book for me. It also makes me want to throw it at a wall too. It's been since Hard Eight and I've been biting my nails and starting to hate the series. I know many are Morelli fan's but...more

Why do I keep reading these? The Stephanie Plum series jumped the shark about ten years ago, after book six. Those first books are some of my favorites of all time, however, so I keep going even though I ought to know better.
It bothers me that Stephanie's never getting older, and she doesn't get wiser. And at this point, there's nothing "sizzling" about her attraction to Ranger. Ranger has weird, stilted dialogue, and all of their flirting is robotic and unnecessary. Morelli ...more

I loved this book so much. I have read books from this series before but I think I love this one the best. The characters were so sidesplitting funny. It was so easy to imagine them. Like Lulu with her tightfitting clothes and ample bosom, with sequins or glitter on her shoes.

The dialogue was priceless with every character having their own style of talking that went right along with their unique style of dressing.

The situations were so crazy too, I won't tell you about th...more

Stephanie Plum has to find her boss, Vinnie. Vincent Plum Bail Bonds has run up a gambling debt of R786 000 with mobster, Bobby Sunflower. Stephanie, office manager, Connie and file clerk / ex-prostitute / side-kick, Lula have to save the day - and their jobs. Two of the most delicious men in fiction love independent, feisty Stephanie. Joe Morelli, the good cop, and Ranger, the dangerous security expert. Both men complicate the story - as all good love interests in fiction should.

I saw another reader use this word to describe the book and it's exactly how I felt after I finished it - meh. I do realize that the Stephanie books are supposed to be fun, easy, light reads, and maybe I’m too hard on this series and expect a lot more than I should, but the past few books have been big letdowns. The “mystery” of this book lacked any depth and left me not caring at all about how it would turn out. Comedic bits and circumstances Steph finds herself in are being repeated. How m...more

Definitely better than the last two in this series but it doesn't even come close to being as good as some of her previous ones (namely 5-13). The humor is there in spades, especially with Lula. The bounty hunter storyline is cute but not particularly exciting. Because these books are very formulaic, the excitement has always come in the Stephanie, Morelli, Ranger love triangle. When she quits focusing on that, the rest just seems same 'ol same 'ol. (OK, I'll admit I'm a huge Ranger fan and am v...more

Yes, it's a little embarrassing to admit that I've read all of the SP series (but not the between the numbers books). They make me laugh and it reminds me of reading a comic book when I was a kid, without the pictures. The new book comes out every year around June 21 which is my wedding anniversary and coincides with a trip we take each year at that time that cries out for summer reading. SP is a guilty pleasure.

After reading: this is my last investment in this series. Each one ...more

For the first time, Evanovich failed the found-myself-suddenly-laughing-out-loud test. It could have been the fact that the hot weather has robbed me of my favorite reading spot. Nonetheless, it's still a fast, fun read.

Yes I'm reviewing the book before I'm finished but that's only because I accidentally saw some of the negative reviews and feel I have to say something. When reading these types of books you have to expect that it's not going to be Jane Austen literature. Books like these are meant for pure entertainment...like watching a sitcom instead of a drama. Lighten up. If you're looking for Stephanie to finally make a committment to Morelli or Ranger than you are missing the point of the books and you...more

Every time I finish a Stephanie Plum book, I tell myself I'll never read another one, but here I am, with the newest one. At least it's a quick read.

If Stephanie Plum didn’t have bad luck, she would have no luck at all. While some may think it’s good luck that Stephanie’s boss Vinnie has been kidnapped, Stephanie knows her family would never let her live it down if she didn’t bring him home.

So, on top of the FTA’s that Stephanie needs to capture to even buy groceries, she’s in charge of finding her sleaze ball boss. And of course he wasn’t just kidnapped by someone because of his good looks, it’s more of a money thing…and a mob t...more

I will always love this series, but a lot of this is getting old. I feel like Evanovich really hit her stride around books 9 or 10. However, the last three haven't been good. Several books ago, the story and characters have actually been progressing but now they're back into the same routines, book after book.

1. Stephanie has been doing this job for quite some time now, but she's still completely ridiculous. She makes idiotic, minor mistakes. Can't a character learn some job skills!? The screw u...more

With typical Stephanie Plum, how can you go wrong? I love the way things do go wrong and end up right in these books. Stephanie loses another of Ranger's cars, she's still up in the air about whether to want Joe or Ranger, she's still the same old non-gun-toting bounty hunter, although this time she actually carries a gun with two bullets at one point and at another questions her bounty huntering life, and she still has the wackiest friends and relatives around, not to mention the people she h...more

Honest review time... this wasn't anything new. Sizzlin' Sixteen wasn't bad, just very predictable.

This series is about visiting with old friends, now. I'm saddened that there's not any further character development, as the characters are what I love and what keep bringing me back, but there hasn't been any forward momentum in them in some time. Morelli and Ranger are still wicked hot. Lula's still the ex 'ho I want at my back in a gun fight... mostly because she always has at least 5...more

Haha I love how critical people are about these. They are what they are, people. Janet Evanovich is not going to win the Nobel Prize for Literature. Here's what's going to happen: Stephanie is going to bungle some stuff, Lula is going to wear ridiculous outfits and get in everyone's way, Ranger is going to be sexy and mysterious, Morelli is going to be a frat boy, Grandma Mazur is going to cause a scene at a funeral home, at least one car is going to be destroyed, and a lot of Cluck-in-a-Buck...more

Reading the last book I thought that I wasn't going to continue with the series much longer. In fact I almost didn't pick this one up at all. I am glad I did as I felt that this one had some of the things the last few were missing.

That wasn't the impression I got at first. I thought it was going to be more of the same old. Once again Morelli and Stephanie are on a break and for very similar reasons. This time the argument was over bread. I thought once again the author has forgotten wh...more

I thought that Sizzling Sixteen was better than Finger Lickin' Fifteen. The focus here moved to Stephanie, Lulu and Connie trying to rescue Vinnie with just a little help from Morelli and Ranger. To those who think that the series is getting tired -- stop reading it. There are plenty of other books.

I like the characters just the way they are and don't care if they don't change much from book to book. I am just looking for a relaxing, fun read that bears no relation to my real world. S...more

It's difficult to believe that Janet Evanovich has taken her character of Stephanie Plum through sixteen novels now, with the release of her latest, Sizzling Sixteen.

::: The Plot :::

Stephanie Plum is a reluctant bounty hunter, falling into a job chasing down suspects who fail to appear in court after they've been bonded out. She works for her cousin Vinnie in his bond agency, along with Connie the receptionist, and Lula the former prostitute. She has an on-again, off-again re...more

Janet Evanovich strikes again. I’d almost say strikes out, but the book was actually pretty good (for Evanovich). She’s certainly not at the height of literary prowess, but her stories are fun to read, and her heroine Stephanie Plum is great. She’s silly, sexy, a little clumsy, and basically what any woman can identify with. Also, she’s got two really hot men in her life, and that of course does help sell books.

So you might ask, if I enjoyed the read (and I totally did, finished in und...more

Another wonderful Stephanie Plum novel. It's amazing that Janet Evanovich can keep all the same characters going over this many books, keeping them fresh and true-to-themselves. Although, I'm starting to see that Lula and Grandma Mazur have a lot in common <g>.

In "Sizzling Sixteen", Stephanie and Lula are up to their usual "barely getting the job done" tricks, with all sorts of twists in the plot. That there will be twists is expected - nothing ever seems t...more

I always look forward to Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum novels. With this latest one, Sizzling Sixteen, I didn't find myself laughing out loud the way I usually do. Maybe I’m jaded, but somehow Stephanie and Lula’s ineptitude as bounty hunters doesn’t seem so funny to me anymore. It just seems annoying—and predictable. Just as predictable is Stepanie’s teaser relationship with the (it goes without saying they’re handsome) men in her life, Joe, the solid cop, and Ranger, the mysterious security...more

I have been a Stephanie Plum fan ever since I can remember. They are fabulous quick reads that never let me down for a good laugh. I have to say that while this was not my absolute favorite (Hard eight for the record), it was definitely a step up from book 14 and 15, Which were severely disappointing. Like many other fans have mentioned, these books have become pretty predictable and have been relying on the love triangle and the laughs to keep propelling this series. I'm no writer, but I'm...more

Well, here we are again. This is the latest book in the Stephanie Plum series, and it didn't disappoint. That's for sure. :)

Stephanie's a bond enforcement agent, which comes with some risks, but that's not the only thing that makes her life so incredibly hard and dangerous. Nope, she's got two hotties in her life--Morelli and Ranger--and can't seem to make up her mind about which one she wants. So much that it's starting to keep her up at night. And then, when she rocks on into work ...more

Maybe I'm just a tad harsh because I'm recovering from flu but I found #16 to be sadly lacking in just about every aspect ... and I LOVE this series! I know it's formulaic. I know the over-all evolution of the characters will be slow going. But I could live with that as long as there was some smart dialogue, even a vague outline of a plot and some sexual tension.

But we've lost whatever energy there was in the series. Stephanie not only hasn't grown but she's become so dependent o...more
