Very short review for a very short story. It's no secret that I'm only still reading these books for Link and Ridley. Beautiful Darkness was a bland 2 star read for me. The only parts which had my interest were any scenes with L & R. So it's no surprise that I enjoyed this L & R short much more than I did an actual book about Ethan and Lena.

I think that somewhere right about here, this series jumped the shark for me. I'm sorry to say good-bye to my beloved Ethan, but I just don't care for the "who's mortal/immortal in this story?" feel of the plot lines.
This is an example of a series that would've been wonderful as a two-book series.

DD is a 41 page short story that takes place after beautiful darkness and centers around ethan's best friend, link. this short novella was apparantly released as a separate installment after BD and included early bonus chapters of beautiful chaos. so while DD states it is a 75 page book, it is actually only 41 pages long, and subsequently many GR reviews will reflect disappointment in spending $1.99 on 41 pages. fortunately for me, i got it as a bonus included at the back of my paperback copy of...more

My first thought after finishing this: "What? That's it? That's the end? It's too short!"
I was really getting into the story and was surprised when I turned the page and saw the authors' bio.

Whose genius idea was it to tell Link's story from Ethan's POV, despite Ethan not being present for the majority of the events? I was so looking forward to reading Link's POV, but what we get instead just doesn't work.

This short story, involving Link and his incubuness, was a nice addition to the Caster Chronicles and made me long for both a re-read of the series (god I've forgotten everything) and to finally get my hands on Beautiful Chaos.
(Which probably won't happen because I am: A. Lazy B. Cheap and C. Need to re-read the series again.)

When it comes to the saying "good things come in small packages" nothing rings more true than Dream Dark by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl. This mini-novella packs a wallop of a punch because it is full of mystery, laughs and the awesomeness that is Linkcubus.
I adore this series for it's Gothic feel and beautifully descriptive writing for it conjures up the most vivid imagery and makes you feel like sipping sweet tea while hiding out in your closet.

My first thought on finishing this was that is was entirely too short! Linkubus could have an entire full-length novel devoted to him, and I'd be happy.

There aren't any important plot points in this mini-ebook. However if you are a completist or curious then I think it's worth the read. This cover the transformation of Link to his new state began at the end of Beautiful Darkness. I liked how this took Link to his home situation and showed how this would complicate his home life and make secrecy a challenge with his overbearing and controlling mother. It pains me to rate a book that is a part of the Caster Chronicles a 2, even if it is a .5 book. I don't even understand why I'm reviewing the book when the review could probably be longer than the book!
It's a fast short story, 41 pages, and was attached to the end of "Beautiful Chaos", so I just went on ahead and read it. I have to say, if I had read it before "Beautiful Chaos" I probably could have enjoyed it a whole lot more.

From the first sentence of any of the Caster Chronicles books, you instantly feel like you're amongst friends and you're home. And in this short story taking place between last year's Beautiful Darkness and the upcoming Beautiful Chaos, you step right back into the thick of things in Gatlin and get reacquainted with Ethan, Lena, ex-Siren Ridley, and new Incubus Link.

To short. The had promise but I guess for an after thought book and a book that is labeled as a 2.5 book (in between book 2 and 3) it was not intended to be fully developed. So much more could of been made of the story of the relationship between Link and Ridley and even Macon. This will be a very brief review for a very brief book. Overall, I enjoyed reading this part of the series. It acted as a bridge of sorts for Beautiful Darkness and Beautiful Chaos. What I truly enjoyed about this book was that the story switched focus to the Lincubus. Link is a very entertaining character and he reminds me of people I know in the real world. Nothing much to say about this book. It's a short story about the transformation of Link into The Linkubus after John Breed bit him and started his change, at the end of book 2, into a Hybrid Incubus (1/4th incubus).

Like the rest of the series, Dream Dark was wonderful. Link is one of my favorite characters and the opportunity to dive deeper into his life was greatly appreciated. The writing was as witty as ever. My favorite line, "Maybe [Link's mom] had switched lightbulbs again, to save energy, or the whales, or whatever her friends at the Daughters of the American Revolution decided they were going to save this week. These little "novellas" are starting to get annoying. I read this in 30 minutes. And it feels like a waste of the $1.99 to amazon. The preview of the next full length book was longer. And if I need the few facts that were learned in this little detour then we should just get them in one of the longer books. A super short story of how Link is dealing with becoming an Incubus. It was very simple and wrapped up fast in 6 chapters.

Basically Link dislikes his mothers cooking, goes to the doctor, gets help from Macon, goes on a quick mission, and kills somebody as he is on his way to deliver a letter.

Je n'ai pas trop saisi la démarche, c'est Ethan qui relate l'histoire, grâce à ce que lui a raconté son meilleur ami, mais il parvient à nous la jouer narrateur omniscient, nous donnant un indice sur un des mystères du tome 3 (ou un clin d'oeil si vous lisez la nouvelle par la suite) ?

Don't assume that I thought this book was bad because I've only given it 2 stars. It wasn't. It was just too short to be my definition of good.
I bought it for two resons. 1) it wss 49p and 2) I wanted to know about Link's transformation as I like the character.
It seemed that the transformation was glossed over though and half the page count was a teaser for Beautiiful Chaos.
It didn't feel like it had ended and I was left disappointed when I turned the page to see the story was over.

Book 2.5 in the Caster Chronicle series, this book focuses on Ethan's best friend, Link. In book 2, Beautiful Darkness, you are left wondering what is to become of Link. This book answers it wonderfully.
Left with a curse and a gift, Link makes the best of his predicament and becomes an even bigger asset to Ethan and Lena's cause. Also, you can't help but love the guy. He makes the best of any situation.

A brief (73 page) short story re-introducing Link as a succubus, showing him learning to deal with his new identity and trying to get along with Ridley who, despite losing our Caster powers at the end of the previous book, is somehow Casting again.
It's an interesting mini-story between Beautiful Darkness and Beautiful Chaos, books 2 and 3, but doesn't really fit in either. It's a segue between them and is rightfully relegated to its own short story.

Not sure what the point of this short story was...maybe it will make more sense in the next book.
I loved reading what happened to Link. I have read the first two books and loved them. So,then I read this book to keep everything in order. The confusing part is that everywhere I read about this book it said that the book is 75 pages. In the back of Beautiful Chaos it is only 30 something pages so I bought the ebook so I could finish it and the ebook is the same as what was in the back of Beautiful Chaos. Didn't understand that.
