Ενα πολυ καλο βιβλιο για τον Έλληνα της κλασσικής εποχής, γραμμένο απο πολυ καλους επιστήμονες οπου ο καθένας αναλύει τον τομέα του. Αθηναίοι, Σπαρτιάτες, Μικρασιάτες και άλλοι, ανιχνέυονται κ μελετούνται πολυπρισματικά, στριατιώτες, δούλοι, θρησκεύομενοι κ απλοι πολίτες, ως θεατές και ομιλητες. Ολοι χαρτογραφούνται για να ανιχνευτεί και κατανοηθεί ενας απο τους μεγαλύτερους πολιτισμους του σκεπτόμενου ανθρώπου.

Jean-Pierre Vernant was a French historian and anthropologist, specialist in ancient Greece. Influenced by Claude Lévi-Strauss, Vernant developed a structuralist approach to Greek myth, tragedy, and society which would itself be influential among classical scholars.
