Valuable advice on how to stay calm in the face of a crisis

“When in danger or in doubt, run in circles, scream and shout,” joked science fiction writer Robert Heinlein about how to handle a crisis. Well, if that is not an option, how should you handle yourself during an emergency, especially if you are in charge? Unfortunately, too many people freeze when trouble confronts them head-on. While most catastrophes do not send advance warnings, you can prepare yourself for the possibility of a setbac

Brian Tracy has been a long time favorite of mine and this book is no exception. He goes over the different actions and attitudes one should possess when they are handling a crisis.

Each chapter is concise and to the point, but the focus allows one to feel they’ve explored the action that Tracy is suggesting. He includes classic quotes from various sources to add color to each chapter header.

A book about things to do when you're going through one of those difficult life-turning incidents... It is more oriented towards business, but still applicable in personal life... The only way you can actually benefit from this book is through applying the things you read...

There was quite some redundancy in the content, but it didn't bother me much...

“Courage is the ladder on which all the other virtues mount.” —CLARE BOOTHE LUCE When things go wrong, when you experience sudden reversals and disappointments, your natural tendency will be to respond with negativity, fear, and anger. Whenever you feel hurt or threatened by loss or criticism, you react to protect yourself with the fight-or-flight response. As a leader, your first job is to take firm control over your mind and emotions, and then to take control over the situation, in that order. Leaders focus on the future, not the past. They focus on what can be done now to resolve the problem or improve the situation. They focus on what is under their control, their next decisions and actions. You must do the same.” 1 likes
“Fortunately, courage can be developed by acting courageously. When you do something that you fear, you feel more courageous. In life, the courage follows the courageous behavior. You become courageous by acting courageously, even when you do not feel like it. Emerson also wrote, “Do the thing and you will have the power.” Don’t be afraid to make hard decisions, especially with regard to people and expenses.” 1 likes
